- To celebrate Beth's Birthday, her family arranged a weekend away...in Brisbane. It started with checking in to the swanky Calile Hotel in James Street, Fortitude Valley. After a welcome drink and a cheese platter, it's off to the 'Van Gogh Alive' exhibition in Northshore....claimed to be the most visited multi-sensory experience in the world and it was FANTASTIC!!! (actually, our video didn't do it justice).
Now, seeing as we're already at Northshore, we figured we may as well go to 'Eat Street' for a quick bite to eat. Later that evening, we popped into The Three Monkeys café (a family favourite) in West End for a piece of birthday cake and a coffee.
The next morning, after a swim in the beautiful pool at the hotel, we walked around the corner to Andonis cafe for a delicious breakfast. It was back home to the Sunshine Coast hinterland later that day....Beth had a great birthday ❤️ Hip hip hooray!!!! 🤗

Hi, we're Beth & Paul from Brisbane, Australia and we love to travel!
Paul retired on 28th February 2020 and on the 1st March 2020, we set out on a 6-month adventure around South East Asia. This was a well-planned once-in-a-lifetime travel experience! It was our intention to show you how you can have a great time travelling without spending a fortune.
Our timing wasn't great - with the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus and subsequent global turmoil less than a month into our trip.
Until it is safe to travel internationally again, we turn our focus on travelling around Queensland and sharing everything our beautiful State has to offer!

Happy birthday and it’s so lovely to meet you and Paul . New subscriber after my husband showed me your wonderful channel . He’s been trying to warm me up to the idea of Queensland for ages and it looks as though we are moving . Thank you for all your lovely videos I had no idea there was so much so many places to enjoy. We are in Victoria in the Beaconsfield officer area which used to be quite rural but you should google the area in the last twenty years it has just changed so much . I wish I could pick up my house and move it because I’m going to miss it. We do need to down size though too much garden and too many rooms to keep clean lol.

We understand what a mammoth decision moving interstate is....we did it 18 years ago (from Bentleigh to Buderim) and we remember what Beaconsfield and Officer looked like back then. We loved our last house, but it was on a very busy road. Now we live a million worlds away (but only 90 minutes from Brisbane) surrounded by nature and farms in a tiny hinterland town.....and we couldn't be happier. We can honestly say that we have never regretted moving to QLD...even when it gets hot and humid in Summer ☀️ We hope you get a chance to come up here for a holiday...to see if it's right for you ❤️

Thanks Julie, the hotel was great, it’s only about 3 years old and had a sixties crossed with the Mediterranean vibe…the best part for me was the pool. I loved the Van Gogh exhibit, the music they used matched the art images beautifully and the breakfast was a treat. I felt really spoiled all weekend ❤️

Again a beautiful video. If you both ever do Europe, it would be my pleasure to bring you and show you the van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. From there you will find another museum (rijksmuseum) with Rembrandt and Vermeer. Vermeer is the familyname of our vriend in the Brisbane area. With love from the Netherlands.
Wow thank you Riekelt 🤗 we visited Amsterdam in 2005 but we were on a tour, so it was a very fleeting visit. We would love that …we were lucky enough to stay in Arles, France a few years ago to explore where Van Gogh spent time there. We hope to visit Amsterdam again one day ❤️

Happy Birthday Beth. Looks like you had the best birthday. That hotel looks amazing. I really want to see the Van Gogh art exhibition but it’s hard where it is to get to from my grandparents place. Eat street is so good. I’ve been there although there’s so much food there and it gets busy.
Hi Imogen 🤗 yes, we were surprised the Van Gogh exhibition was at North Shore but it was literally next door to Eat Street and there was plenty of parking there. Some people travelled there by City Cat. Don’t worry if you miss this one….as you know, Brisbane always has something good going on. We noticed GOMA has a great exhibition at the moment…and that’s more central and free 😊 we’re hoping to go there over Summer.
