- Obviously everyone is going to have their preferences for air seal components and obviously as I have said has led to a bunch of inconsistencies so just do some research and do diligence of knowing what your platform likes.

I know this is an older video but:
you want your gearbox to produce a larger volume of air than necessary when it is new. Reason being spring tension and seals will deteriorate with time and thus reduce the air volume gradually. If your gun preduce just enough volume to reach the end of the barrel your gun will underperform after some time.
Not sure why you mentioned gear ratio -- has nothing to do with the compression volume. Did you mean DSG/short stroke vs standard SSG, bore-up compression parts, or standard cylinders vs elongated DMR cylinders? For undervolume situation, there is no vacuum happening, its just loss of positive pressure before the BB exits the barrel. The pressure never goes negative in the barrel -- it's practically impossible. For overvolume situation, its not necessarily an issue with putting wear on the system. The concern would be that the airseal components would need to be good enough to handle the higher pressure to not leak air and cause FPS loss/inconsistencies. If airseal is good then you have to worry about joule creeping as you go up in BB weight. Reason why airsoft sites should be chrono-ing with at least .28g BBs.
Hey if you guys ever want someone to consult on more complex tech info, hmu on Instagram @midwest.tech. I'm in northern Illinois and I'll be attending UW-M next year. I really enjoy your presence in the industry and would love to help out.
1:45 in I explain why people need to be conscience of gear ratio. 14:1 gears dont get as much air volume as 18:1 so it actually has everything to do with compression volume.
Edit: Its still morning, DSG vs every other gear is what I meant. With DSG the compensation is higher spring tension to shoot the limited air volume through the nozzle faster.
3:14 nice catch lol
Wow so since I put 16:1 gears in my CYMA AK with a 509mm barrel am I now under volumed? I didn't realize that higher gear ratios = less air volume
Good info!
That was a great, informative video, thanks.
I've just bought the JG M16a1 and the inner barrel is 510mm x 6.08mm. That is a lot longer than the 14.5 inches you talked about there. I wonder if it is losing FPS as standard because of its length? 🤔
I reckon I'll be installing a 6.03mm inner barrel but that won't make too much of a difference.
It shoots 0.25g BBs at 264 fps (only allowed 1 joule in Ireland)
Wow really I'm in nj in the US I found a field we do 1.9 joule no bang bang or minimum engagement ever out this way stop by its called warzone getting hit with that will make you feel alive let me tell ya I was at another field and was barely noticeable at 1.4 joule and that was basically a cqc mini map
This guy thinks a higher ratio set of gears will pull your piston back so far back that it will be in the buffer tube. 😂
So far I've upgraded my lt-12b evo Gen 2 with an all metal V2 gearbox to a flat hop bucking and nub and added the m120 rated upgraded spring. Should I go ahead and do a full hop up unit upgrade or can I get away with but piston upgrades first
You mean number of teeth right? Ratio doesnt concern the compression
Man, I am out of breath just listening to him.
Gotta take a break and breathe!
What is the cylinder volume to inner barrel volume ratio? I've seen discussion of that under BASR forums, but I'm not sure what it should be for AEGs or GBBPs.
For a ratio? It should be 1:1, its easier to get close to that in BASR or AEGs but its impossible to get a consistent and accurate volume ratio for anything GBB
@@AirsoftHeadquarters that’s technically wrong, you want something bigger then 1:1.
Generally 1:1.5 is roughly starting point and higher for heavier bbs. At about 1:2 ish you can start to joule creep ish.
Gas guns really don’t care about average available airsoft barrel lengths. Like even a 600mm barrel won’t get even close to being undervolumed.
Bruh wtf… gear ratio is not ratio between the cylinder teeth, if u have 13:1 or 16:1 the cylinder is moved always the same distance -> same air volume pushed… also you should never have full cylinder if you use any standard barrel length. Having lower air volume than the barrel doesnt have almost any negatives… it have positives acrually as long as you are having drilled port as the piston reaches higher speed as no air being compressed from the beginnig thus compressing much faster increasing muzzle velocity while having lower air volume zulul… your theory is missing the part about speed of the nozzle while compressing or not compressing… also i tested this from 500 mm to 200mm barrel full to half cylinder and best results are with about 2/3 cylinder volume and basically any barrel lenght gives the best… accuracy is almost the same
The thing about gear ratios changing the piston stroke made me double take as well. Only thing that can change the stroke of the piston (and therefore usable cylinder volume) is the number of teeth on the outer part of the.sector gear
@@merlinhopkins1089 yes, or potentionally cutting teeth on the piston itself
I want that shirt
Como podemos mejorar la compresión del cilindro sin afectar los fps?
You cant, increased air compression leads to improved fps
If want to get the best airseal possible but still have the same fps you will have to get a weaker spring
Best gear ratio to achieve 600+ fps?
Doesnt matter lol. Same air volume is being pushed with any gear ratio lol… only tsg dsg or ssg matter or cut teeth on piston in case of air volume also air volume is not that important
This guy looks similar to chris evans😃
I just had to do all this to my lancer lol
So I'm trying to upgrade the same parts but the hop-up unit but I rant into the problem where I have to find the right size of air nozzle. Would you know the specs of the parts you upgrade ( i have a Lancer gen 2 also)
@@esepinky13 try a 21.55. They also make an adjustable one that goes from 19 to 22 mm. I switched back to my stock lancer plastic hop up since that ended up being my problem.
@@maggotpraiswater thank you so much man you just saved me about $60. As far as function of the hop-up I think it's doing great if air leak is the only issue with the stock one I'm sure the seals on the piston head and air nozzle would take care of that if not I figured some plumber sealing tape could help.
@@esepinky13 my air leak issue was fixed with a new cylinder head and piston head. Cheap and easy. The hop up units that I used then lost my air seal inside the bb chamber. Only use Teflon tape around the very front of the bucking.
@@maggotpraiswater any recommendations on the brand for the piston and cylinder head? I was looking at the MAXX but to be honest I hate the wait and was wondering if I could just get those parts at my local airsoft store
