Bus ODD Demo - Taiwan | Autoware Foundation

Today, we conclude the Bus ODD work by revealing the second* part of the effort, developed and showcased by ITRI in Taiwan 🇹🇼
Bus ODD work was carried out simultaneously in Taiwan and Turkey. It was developed on the same codebase, sharing the same core algorithms but deployed on different environments and target hardware. Thanks to the #Autoware project's modular architecture, ITRI integrated its customized perception stack and C-V2X modules with the rest of the Autoware project.
ITRI has developed a surround sensing system called S3, which integrates various sensing and communication technologies, such as cameras, LiDARs, radar, and C-V2X. Empowered by S3, the ITRI bus can navigate fully autonomously in urban areas.
Here are some of the key features of ITRI’s S3 system, an integrated perception, cognition, and planning system based on Autoware Universe:
🔸Deep Learning based image recognition
🔸3D LiDAR sensing for SLAM and free space
🔸Multi-sensor fusion
🔸Event sensing technologies such as path prediction and body skeleton detection
ITRI has also integrated the S3 system with the iRoadSafe**, an Edison Award winner in 2019, to enhance non-line-of-sight detection at intersections and manage traffic light control via Signal Phase and Timing (SPaT).🚦

** iRoadSafe system is deployed at more than 40 intersections in 9 cities in Taiwan and can be equipped on various vehicles such as buses, trams, trains, ambulances, and fire trucks.
