  • Fresh off the boat from the Netherlands comes the absolute cheapest digital compact cassette deck I could find at the time. Costing me $160 Canadian plus shipping, this thing showed up in extremely bad packaging with NOTHING working.
Folks, the shipping damaged Technics RS-B755 had BETTER packaging than this one. Original complaint was "cassette blocked" in display, but as we will quickly find out it has MANY more problems than that.
    Belts required:
    300mm IC x 4mm capstan
    250mm IC x 1mm loading tray

Can’t win ‘em all! Interesting statement about Beethoven in one of the ads!

Could that channel 5 error be dur to tape path misalignment issues? I skipped some parts of the video (sorry) so I didn't catch if you cleaned the head and checked alignment.

No, it's got a completely dead channel. Tape path issues would knock the rest of them out. DCC error correction works well enough that it'll handle one dead channel, but any errors above that it wouldn't be able to correct for. Had the dead channel been working, most of my tapes likely would have played with no dropouts. But my tapes are used ones with condition issues and the player has a dead channel, thus the dropouts.

is the head block in the Optumus compatible with this unit? If so, you should swap 'em and see what happens. 😀

Nope, I'm not that lucky. The Optimus uses a Panasonic transport, this one is all Philips. The heads don't interchange either... the read/write board needs to be programmed to the head.

Funny how on some segments of the video you sound like a totally different person talking :P

I'm 6' 5" - sometimes early in the morning my voice drops a few octaves.

    Nice video!
Once i had dcc deck to repair... it was nightmare, also leaked smd caps and much more stuff - as always someone been before me. In the end it gone away from me as working device, but i never took more of them on my bench after that.

I don't think I'll be buying any more, at least for a long time. I like Minidisc better already.
