Something about the deal with the author. If they wanted to use the Parker name they'd have to make sequels I think
I think Boorman liked 'Walker' as a name as it implied a sort of unstoppable force slowly coming to get his money. They also changed the name from Parker to Earl Macklin in 'The Outfit' which is also a very good film by the original author with a similar plot.
