  • Krik of Black Owl Outdoors takes a look at the Titan Assault Pack from Condor Elite, the top of the line gear from Condor Outdoors. Recently we were contacted by Michael over at Condor and he asked if were interested in reviewing any of their new line of packs. After looking it over we decided on the Titan Assault Pack. Constructed of 500D Cordura and sporting a dividable main compartment, The Titan is just about the perfect backpack for day trips and, depending on skill level, short over-nighters. If the external pockets on the sides of the pack were replaced with water bottle pockets, Krik and stony may stop the everlasting search for the "perfect bag"...

    Condor's water bottle holder will carry that steel canteen perfectly. You can attach it to the Molle on the back panel. It does add a little weight though.

    Great job on a thorough review. Always tighten your belt strap first so the weight is resting on your hips and closer to your center of gravity. Then tighten the shoulder straps so it stays flat against your back.

    Good pack , that "goofy" mesh pocket would probably suit a first-aid kit & the bottom exterior part looks ideal for a sleeping bag , good vid. :)

    I considered this pack, but no side water bottle pouch nixed that consideration. Condor products have have always been a favorite of mine .

    Great review! Easy fix for a water bottle, strap on a molle compatible dump pouch to either side of the hip belt. The dump pouch also has multiple uses not just for holding a water bottle.

    Great in-depth review, thank you. You just helped me make my decision on this bag. I was on the fence because I hadn't really seen the review I was looking for...until your video. I really enjoy the content and the quality of your videos. My only 'quirk' I guess is in the intro. I am not sure about the 'Turtles' reference...again, just me. Aside from that, keep doing what you do and I and many others will be watching. God Bless you friend!

    I agree on the water bottle pouches. Nothing worse than hiking along and your water bottle falls out. Scratches, dents and broken plastic that leaks all your water.

    Good review krik. Love the pack hanger. Cool bag one of the better packs they have produced. I really like the rubberized bottom, the rear adjustment straps for the hip belt and the pull forward straps for tightening the waist belt. It would have been nice for them to include a rain cover. Thanks Krik and Stony. atb Opal

    That's a very cool bag. From what I see, it might be my favourite of the ones you've reviewed.
    I also prefer a water bottle to a bladder, but I seem to remember Condor or Maxpedition making a MOLLE bottle holder. Silly to have to spend extra dough on one when they should have just made one of the side pockets a bottle holder, but well, you know...

    • @BlackOwlOutdoors
      @BlackOwlOutdoors  Před 9 lety +1

      +Raindance Bushcraft Yea I think this is one of mine as well. You could definitely add a bottle holder. But I wouldn't. You'd be adding like 5-6 inches to the width of the pack (if you put it on the side). I don't use MOLLE in general because I don't like having loads of stuff on the outside of my packs. -Krik

    • @RaindanceBushcraft
      @RaindanceBushcraft Před 9 lety

      +Black Owl Outdoors yeah, I've never used MOLLE in my life. Good point about adding the inches. I hadn't thought of that, but I hate getting crap caught up in the underbrush as I walk between the trees. Our forests up here can get a little uh... Narrow.

  • @a84drun
    @a84drun Před rokem

    Neat bag. Neat how you have it hanging. Animals might have nothing to do with it. A person during the night might pass it and miss it completely while the owner is on the ground asleep. As well it is likely to be clean, and in case of rain it might fair better - protecton from the wet being so close to the tree, and protecton from the rot - mud, soil.

    Say Heah Krik, I think I have either a 3 day or a 3-5 day Condor 2 in the digital camo, and I really like it, it's simple fir one, but I also molle attach some of my cutting tool's and sufficient compartments fir water and my tarp, binoculars etc. and other things to carry while I scout a area or just go out for a hot cup of coffee on the open fire, I like my shoulder but sometime I find it too be too small, but I use it to really go lite. Yeah, Condor makes some good stuff.

    The molle webbing you don't like is made to add stuff to the bag... like a needed bottle holder... Just sayin'! (Condor make those too!)
    I like the pack. A bit larger than a dayback, but not a huge expedition pack. Perfect for 72 hours prepper pack.
    I agree that the lower main section is a great idea. It makes it easier to pack the heavy stuff on the top and make it stay there. Great bag to organize your stuff so you know where to find it, when you need it.

      I'm sorry, I was being sarcastic, with friendly tongue-in-cheek intentions I assure you. Of course, I know that you know the function of webbing. I started to watch your awesome videos not long ago, but I can see right away that you know your stuff. I'm a subscribing fan.
      I fully appreciate your preference for a lean pack with not too much frills hanging on it. Lower profile, less chances to get tangled up in branches, etc. I like those packs as well, but I also like a pack that is basic as it gets, with webbing so I can adapt it to my needs with pouches. I too need to have a bottle holder on my pack, but I don't mind adding a pouch for it.

    Sorry, but no, the upper main compartment is not "full clam shell." That is plain to see in the video, that when it is zipped open as far as it will go, and the front panel is pulled down, the front panel is not totally released, and its bottom and sides buckle as they are pulled by the force of the incomplete opening. It is very irritating to try to open something so that you can get all the way into it, but it will not open completely. When will these companies like Condor and 511 realize that customers hate this incomplete clam shelling feature? We want our pack to be capable of opening COMPLETELY. Then if we want to open them only partially, we can keep them partially zipped closed at the bottom.

    I understand that Condor has made a really nice pack here, but I think if they could sell it for just under $100 they'd make a fortune.

      +dspurlock23 This is their elite line - may not be possible to make it budget friendly. Just a guess though.

    personally not big enough for me ....maybe as a trapping,cutting tool,fishing,hunting equip. bag. if i used it as a piggy back for a INCH ruck pack it could work well. but not as a stand alone pack.

      I use a berghause remote 20lt for day hikes, it's a great bag, with a hydration pouch that allows you to store up to 3ltrs of water, and enough space to hold extra layers, waterproof s snacks makes it great for day hikes it also has an inerr compartment that holds your phone and multi tool or a small to medium sized camera. It has an outer pouch that I use to hold a saw ( bacho Laplander ) and a medium sized knife. I think it has two Velcro loop things that are supposed to hold walking poles or I've axes but I'm not sure what they're for. From my experience it is 100% waterproof. The bag is extremely comfy to wear. The only downside is that the waterbotle pouches on the outside barley fit anything so I don't really use them. And after 3 years of use of hiking and for edc the only thing that has ever broke is the plastic cover on the grab handle. Hope that helps. And allot of berghause stuff is great including there waterproofs bags and clotting
