Correct Tongue Placement for Singing - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy 4K
It's almost laughable how many people mock my tongue placement for singing.
It's almost equally laughable how many vocal coaches try to call me out on it and say it's tongue tension when they themselves cannot sing, cannot prove what they are espousing, and show no students doing it either.
All the while, I'm explaining the exact transformation of all the different stages of tongue placement in order to get to where I am today, and why I (and my students) do what we do.
And the irony is, when you watch some of the greatest singers in the world, starting with Pavarotti, you can clearly see large manipulations of the tongue in the same way that I am demonstrating it here in this video, and in my singing videos as well.
Check out Luciano Pavarotti's tongue at 2:47 in this video:

Check out Adam Lambert's tongue at 4:57 in this video:
    • Adam Lambert's Best Li...
Check out Whitney Houston's tongue placement in this video:
    • Whitney Houston - Try ...
All those out there that speak without knowledge and without demonstration will never learn because they're too full of themselves and do not take the time to really investigate these concepts.
This is also true for what I teach regarding open throat technique and some of the earliest, most sacred non-negotiables of contiguous phrase open throat singing. By far the most powerful, effective, long lasting, and effortless singing in the world.

Thanks for taking the time to explain this, I know I was curious about that. It does seem like a very interesting and effective method to open up the back of your mouth more and get better airflow. I've been trying to stabilize airflow in my singing for a while now and moving my tongue forward has seemed to help.

Just by watching you, I sang some sections of my last song using my tongue the way you *seemed* to be using it. It was more of a “monkey see, monkey do” thing, but I still succeeded in opening my throat and sounding better in my upper range -or so I think. Thank you, Sensei! 🙏

Never has a coach or lessons of any type. That said many of your video's have been helpful. Never knew about head voice , chest voice or mixed voice. Things like that but after watching your videos I can feel these things. Respect for your knowledge and thanks for the help

I was in a children's choir called Sugar & Spice back in the 60s & 70s. I sang on KTOB & KGO radio in the SF bayarea & did local performances & I was trained to sing this way with a small hand mirror. My coach was very focused on tongue position & breathing techniques. As a kid it was very intense but it works.

Another vocal coach told me that I have tongue tension. She gave me some advice on how to help it. I think this helps too.

Ken I've never mocked your toungue but it is different to mainstream. I've only ever noticed toungue placement on two people. You and James Labrie from Dream Theater. Clearly it works and shows a level of control and care for singing as a natural instrument. ❤ from Melbourne Aus.

I'm not a singer by any means, but for those who say tongue placement is useless, check out the late Chester Bennington of Linkin Park and Chuck Billy of Testament. They kept their voice intact their entire career and their videos show that they use this technique. Props to the real pro, Ken Tramplin. Sorry for my bad english haha

People missing the main point here... He is saying train for 30years.
Look any professional on any field, the difference always look much sharper with life dedication of training. (Easy example to understand. Arnold Schwarzenegger and same age budy builder)
    .
    .
    .
Ken' s throat look like Arnold 30 years ago.
Why? Can Arnold lift same weight? Can Ken hit all thise notes?
(I love Arnold, I grow up with his movies)
