  • In this tutorial tutorial I demonstrate how to make a simple paracord wrap.
    The wrap is done with half knots, alternating the tying onto the front and back side. We finish the wrap with a reef knot.
    The knot is also known as ABoK 3458.
    Enjoy the tutorial!

    Thank you, when I do a walking stick and carve a notch near the bottom, this is the perfect knot to use to keep the end secure enough so it doesn't split.

    Interesting, in regards to 'inletting' the wood where the wrap was to be made in order to keep the paracord from not increasing the grips size too much, but at the same time it also could have been done on a stick which hadn't been cut down if a little larger grip was neded.
    The only other addition to my walking stick was to add black heavy duty rubber tips at each end to decrease to possibilty of a slip - so far so good.
    Thanks for sharing how to do this since I had originally gone with drilling a small hole at each end of my grip where the cord was inserted and then wrapped over in order to cover it up and finally to the last wrap which also ended up inside the other hole, all of which was layed-up over a light coating of Gorilla Glue without being noticed as the heavy line I used did a nice job of hiding it.

    That "wreath knot" is what I was taught as a "square knot".
    Interesting that this is a means of "whipping" or putting a "serving" on line as well.

    • @mikefule330
      @mikefule330 Před rokem +1

      "Reef" knot (not "wreath") so called because it is used for tying the sail ties when you reef a sail on a boat. Reefing is when you make the sail smaller (for strong winds) by folding or rolling (or simply bundling) up the bottom few inches of canvas.

    Thanks. I’ve used this wrap many times, on many things, but I haven’t come up with a method to finish it cleanly. Having a square knot at the end is secure, but on some wraps I don’t like having the knobby “bump” that can be felt under my hand. Any thoughts?

    • @Paracordguild
      @Paracordguild  Před měsícem

      There is always a way! You could run the ends under a part of the wrap using a lacing needle. Trim and melt.
      You could also tie a simple turk's head knot with one end and double it up with the other.

      use a prusic knot to attach the 2 colors or a similar knot then just follow the same pattern, the place where the 2 colors meet might look messy though. Try and find a 2 tone rope maybe. It'll look great.

      They have the same look and the names are often switched around. Generally, I call the bend form (for joining two ends) a reef knot, while the square knot is used as a knot to craft items such as bracelets, purses, anything like that. The square knot usually has a core of two strands.
