- A new megachurch in Moon Township has found itself in the middle of controversy over noise. Neighbors who live near the church say the outdoor worship services are breaking the township's noise ordinances. KDKA-TV's Shelley Bortz reports.
This is a mansion with a tent outside. It's not a megachurch. This neighborhood wouldn't be zoned for a church. According to Google this church is actually located somewhere else. Whoever owns this mansion needs to remove the tent and stop holding these services.
They need to be ticketed and fined, but in America we’re chickenshit to do that to churches.
Why do they have to have the speakers blaring ?!!! That church needs to stop !

Sounds just like those who buy a house near a race track, then complain about the noise and get it shut down.
The parcel of land has about 60 marked parking spaces, with more if the grounds are used as parking. The house next to the tent is about 50x160ft and the tent is larger than the house: I estimate about 175ft x 60ft, dwarfing even large wedding venue tents. A tent that size with stage will seat about 800 people.
The megachurch is preaching to the faithful, but not to the community. If they want the neighborhood to join in, they need to first be good neighbors. People have complained about sound checks at 6:30 in the morning, where even using yard power tools is illegal. Their closest neighbors are a mere 800ft away and in a quiet morning, anything loud is going to be very noticeable. More than a few homeowners were asked if they would sell their property.
As a Christian, my feeling is that this church is behaving in a very unchristian manner. A tent can seat a lot of people, and hold a large sound system, but if it has soured relations with the community it professes to try to reach, that's arrogance and hubris.

God forbid leaders of that church practiced what they preached. If they cared about the community like they shout during those sermons, they would have gotten off their pews and asked neighbors about the outdoor event ahead of time.

I’m a Christian and even I don’t agree they should be allowed to make so much noise. I live right next door to a small church and we never have heard them make a peep the whole 18 years I’ve lived here. This mega church should have to hold their services inside and not disturb the housing area they moved into….they really aren’t being very nice. This would be different if they moved into the middle of town and noise from other businesses was already present….but they moved into the middle of nature so it’s different.
Unfortunately, we’re in a whole new era of “Christianity”.

Some restaurants have outdoor seating, I believe, for just one example. And the traffic the church creates would be a nightmare.

I had the same problem with outdoor rave parties. I bougft 4 large Yamaha concert speakers with 14" sub woofers. Set them in a line pointed in one direction. Played my own kind of music.
Rent some outdoor PA speakers... Then blast Slayer, Deicide, and Godless during their cult worship.

Jesus received a lot of hate and indignation when He walked the Earth and preached to thousands at a time. Cured the sick, fed crowds with a couple of fish and some bread. Challenged proud, corrupt leaders who called Him a 'blasphemer'. Was unjustly judged and died a horrible, tortuous crucifixion, yet 3 days later, He conquered death and saved humanity. Accepted the punishment that we all deserve for our sinfulness, which separates us from God. We should be humble and grateful for Jesus' work of redemption, not proud and full of ourselves.
Makes me think of a scene from the film 'Jesus Christ Superstar' where the high priest, Caiaphas complained to Jesus that the crowd following him was 'much too loud'.
Yet, it's ok for the Gaza protestors to yell and scream all over the place. Christianity will always be persecuted. Give God all the Glory!

I can think of worse things that cause noise disturbances and glad there isn’t alcohol and drugs. I wouldn’t be as bothered with the level of noise in this video for the church’s special week of worship.
However, it looks like the church can easily make adjustments to abide by the 10pm to 7am quiet time period. Hope they adjust!

Not everyone sleeps between 10 pm - 7 am. It's not OK to have noise during the day, either for those who do. *Blast a type of music you can't stand and try doing your taxes during it or have an important conversation.* Or enjoy a meal or TV show. Take a nap while you are sick with the flu.

I tried to complain but the "leader" said that they were doing nothing wrong and they had paid for the hall. I was not happy about it but what was I going to do about it when there were 12 of them and only one of me. Only one of them was even vaguely sympathetic. I think his name was Judas

what's up with these mansion churches. I went to a church in the country not far from a big city, perfect and picturesque, not big, but the best parties, strawberry festivals, scout meetings by members, members knew all of each other. ... Much better than a number a donor...

Let's say an ambulance driver or paramedic is woken by that church when they need 2 more hours sleep. Now how are they going to be sharp in the job, trying to saves lives?
I doubt it's temporary anyway. I don't see a church there other than the revival tent. That's a large house in the footage, not a building with a large sanctuary.
If that was me I would let my neighbors know that I’m gonna play loud music. Then do it and see how that goes. Maybe the church will finally turn their music down. But knowing my luck the police will be at my door saying turn the music down, but not them.
I am a retired Pastor, and I would never allow this type of issue to occur with my Church!

Agreed. I've seen vid of large event tent be lifted up by wind. In high winds and a wildfire, that could be very hazardous. Even just the tent catching fire would be horrible.......with toxic smoke from the material, and possible embers spreading the fire.
