    Rode the 2023 version of this board in 154 and it blew my mind. The tail is a bit squirrelly, but it makes it fun for technical runs and moguls. Definitely also fun for just plowing over moguls as well with the dampening in the board.

    This review is bang on - I bought a 160 a couple of seasons ago, far too much board for me. So, so stiff with no torsional flex.
    It looked great admittedly and for the right rider, fair enough.
    For a muppet like me? N'ah. Stick with a regular Hovercraft or Flagship

    Beautiful board

    Love my Ultracraft 160! One thing though is the long sidecut, paired with the torsional stiffness, makes this board a bit awkward at slow speeds. It wants to charge. High speed groomers and powder slashes all day long. 🏂

      I feel the same, the board really comes alive when you let it go fast.

    Was a but surprised to see the K2 Excavator in the comparable boards part. Based on what I've seen and read about the Ex I was left with the impression that it's a bit less stiff and more forgiving (of course not underestimating it will have its demands). Anyway, my Excavator arrived recently, it's just matter of snow to give it a try and see how our love/hate relationship will develop.

      Pow float and how it rides on edge are comparable, flex-wise way softer for sure.

    The under the breath soap opera reference to Days of our Lives made the whole video worth it, lol.

    What's your favorite all mountain board for tree riding on days where there's fresh snow but not a deep day?

    Yo, I'm 6', 205 lbs, size 11 currently ride a 160 Ultra Mtn Twin, home mountain is Snowbird. Cant decide on 156 or 160, thoughts?

    Last year I rode the Ultracraft 2021 and loved it! Sadly I absolutely destroyed the toe edge on a rock traversing a bowl at 40mph.
    For 2022, Ultracraft again or Flagship?? I’m 210lbs 5’10 resort groomer bombing traversing through the chop to the powder fields and ledges with some trees.
    Thanks!

      You know how the Ultracraft rides so I would probably go that route.

    Have you had a chance to ride the bataleon thunder bolt? I’m looking for a hard charging free ride board and I’m caught between that, something from jones with “ultra” in its name (ultra mtn twin, ultra hovercraft,ultra flagship), the k2 alchemist or manifest team and the mega merc. The thunderbolt has a lot of the same specs as the thunder, with added carbon and better sintered base. I’m looking for a board with tons of pop and a lot of stiffness for handling steeper big mountain style riding. I have to admit the bataleon thunder bolt looks sexy and seems pretty good for that stuff, but I haven’t been able to find any reviews on it. You’re reviews are always helpful for cutting through marketing bs and any advice from a shred stick master like yourself would be much appreciated🤟

      Won't get a chance till January but basically the way it was summed up to me was Jam specs shoved in Thunder shape. If you want stiff and snappy get the Alchemist or the Aviator 2.0.

    How much softer would you say the Surfari is than the Ultracraft? Is it a similar flex to the regular Hovercraft, or even softer than that?

    • @AngrySnowboarder
      @AngrySnowboarder  Před 2 lety

      Surfari is stiffer than the regular but slightly softer than the Ultra.

    Jones always has light weights called out... Would the 160 hold my fat butt (300 lbs.)? Or am I better off going with the Telos Back/Slash 158?

    Can you see a person of your (and my) size ever needing a 160/override a 156?

    • @AngrySnowboarder

      Coast snow that's super heavy and just wide open terrain. Wouldn't even hesitate to ride the 60 if I still lived in WA.

    Thank you for your review, very helpful. I'm 5'11" 170lbs and have a 2017 ultracraft 160. I probably have 100 or so days or so on it and have found it to be super dreamy in pow and pretty good in everything else, except crud. Interesting that you found it not to buck because I have experienced a quite bit of bucking in crud or choppy, wetter snow. Do you think that is a materials difference from 2017 to 2022? Seems like they are using an ash topsheet vs. some type of carbon composite with wood on the 2017 model. In the same vein, I'm wondering if it has the same stiffness as my 2020 ultra mind expander which I've found a bit too stiff at times. How would you compare those boards?

    • @AngrySnowboarder
      @AngrySnowboarder  Před 2 lety +1

      Material change is going to effect the ride, Carbon is great for adding rigidity but doesn't do anything for dampening. UME is stiffer but a lot of that has to do with the fact it's full camber.

    Hey, How does this compare with Korua shape Cafe Racer?

    • @AngrySnowboarder
      @AngrySnowboarder  Před 2 lety

      Well this is more pow friendly, less aggressive to drive, and more well rounded in terms of pow carving.
