  • In partnership with Nottingham Libraries and supported by Nottingham Playhouse, SEE ME is an inspirational living history project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. In February 2024 we recruited Muslim girls aged 15-22 in Nottingham to train them in oral history skills, photography, filming and audio recording. Equipped with these skills they then met and interviewed inspirational women of Muslim heritage in Nottingham. They filmed and recorded the interviews, and took portrait photographs of the interview subjects.
The resulting interviews and photographs are part of a new podcast series launching in June, and an exciting new touring pop-up exhibition. This interactive exhibition features a portrait image of each interviewee along with an illustration depicting a moment from their story. The exhibition launched at Nottingham Central Libraries and toured to venues on the ‘Liberation Squares’ tour over April-June 2024, and will tour to other local libraries across Nottingham until the end of Sept 2024.
The recorded original interviews and accompanying material will also be stored in Nottingham City Libraries archive so that future generations can access them. The project will help share personal experiences of women of Muslim heritage who have contributed to Nottingham’s social heritage.
