One of the most beautiful end credit tracks.
It's right up there with Flesh Gordon 2
@@YorkshirePud-rpg 😂
Hauntingly beautiful. My Mom is the one who got me into Dune. She even bought a Special Edition DVD of it.
Dune and Buckaroo Banzai have the best end credits imo.
Yes it's absolutely gorgeous, so soothing. I saw this at the cinema back in' 84 and remember this music and closing sequence really vividly
For all its faults, Dune has some absolutely wonderful elements and arguably the greatest end credits ever.
Buckaroo Banzai might be a contender for best end credits. Dune’s is great, though.
....you got me Tearin Up, GUY!!
Saw it at the theater when it came out. Truly impressive then. Still kind of is
.
@@shaneacorns I agree. Seeing New Jersey walk as a badass was totally worth it. 🤣
it doesn't have any faults
There is an immense amount of subtlety and beauty in Dune, the credits included. It gives each of the characters their just due.
Last Saturday, 11/6/21.......this was shown at the Cleveland Cinematheque. Maybe 2-3 people left before this was over. The rest of us stayed, knowing that this is one of the BEST parts of the movie!! (Personally........I wish that that there had been a PIANO present, so I could play the whole "Take My Hand".....)
They rushed through too many characters in the first hr 30 mins. The Atreides/Harkonen dynamic is not really convincing.
Blame the Studio
All the Dune books I read, I will always picture this cast ... with ToTo's theme in the background.
I know!! Same for re-reading "Lord of the Rings". I'll never be able to read again without seeing the movie characters. Mixed bag in a way. Haven't re-read "Dune" in a long time. Right now I'm reading "The Butlerian Jihad".
True for me also - even the new movies cannot replace the faces of Lynch's Dune. It remains a difficult movie for many reasons, but I love it nonetheless.
This score is so relaxing. I watch this movie often before bed. Brings back good memories.
....RESPECT!!
These end credits are quite a lullaby in my household also.
That whole ST was a staple at any gaming session in my youth. It covered all the emotions...
Dune
This is by far the best end credits scene ever imho. The water in the background and the way the character images fade in and out and not to mention that amazing end credits theme!
The beginning and end of " You only live twice " James Bond is a killer score.
Whatever you may think about the overall quality of the film, this was an utterly awesome cast, and I love this film as a product of its time
Read the book a couple of times, and I still think this was the best possible movie anyone could have done in that time period.
Love it.
I watched the movie all the time as a kid only now as an adult I am sitting down and reading the novel I really am amazed by how well he captured it.
The editing and pacing needed improvement. The climatic battle and duel were both underwhelming but easily could have been improved.
@@johnnydavis5896 It's a speed-run. The new movie is more relaxed.
This is me from the future
I’ve come all the way back here to send you the message the new Dune movie here and 2021 is an absolute critically acclaimed masterpiece🙏
I hope you all loved it as much as everyone else has!💙
Not to forget that it was over an hour longer.
Imagine if Lynch could (and would want to) re-do it, but frozen in time in 1984 again, without time or financial restrictions...
I can't help but think that this was the most perfect casting in the history of cinema :)
The combination of this music and Virginia Madsen makes me miss a place I have never been.
She is gorgeous!
I always liked the ending credits of the main characters
Agreed
I was an 80s teenager. I absolutely love this movie. I've got so much more respect for the music of TOTO as well.
Yes, especially looking back now realizing 1) how young these legendary actors were, and 2) realizing now how far Patrick Stewart’s star would rise.
I remember walking out on this movie. Maybe I should have stayed for this music close credits Love Toto rock band
It’s just hard to explain, I totally agree
One, in my personal opinion, completely underestimated film, which, however, has cult status today. A great star cast with a fantastic music composition by Brian Eno and Toto. And of all the adaptations of the classic by Frank Herbert, the best realization, even if it certainly doesn't stick exactly to the book. However, this could not have been realized even in a three-parter with 3 hours each. I love this film! And the end credits are the best thing ever done in the film world.
Always catchs me the feeling of sadness the last shot of Sean Young in the credits...
I have always noticed that myself as well.
It’s the dark blue eyes, they make her look sad against the intense deep blue sea waves in the background. 😪
@@keithpotter9922 That and knowing what happens to Chani in the Sequel Dune Messiah.
great movie ..
i dont care what any "critics and haters say
the cast was legendary - the scenes , details and surroundings were out of this world
the soundtrack absolute perfection ..
they should not give us a remake but a final 8h version for cinema . with all the creative drawing monologues and all the background ..
i was in love with Jessica , Irulan and Chani at the same time back then :P
Because they are haters & then you got those youtube channels that say everything wrong with DUNE! I can not stand that channel...The guy is totally NEGATIVE! Must be miserable to watch a film & look for every detail of what is wrong with a movie...SMH! So sad to be him...
Low IQ people are baffled by it, hardly a fault.
Especially since it was made back before any serious computer power was available for hi def CGI.
This movie was epic , the acting and music ect
Can anyone remind me the flaws of this movie?
Lack of action? The 2021 one gets boring at times too.
Unfaithful to the books? Sure, lets ignore the black dirtying, gender swaps, the baron sexuality (which Hollywood would probably see as heroic), the wormholes rendering spice mutants unnecessary. They didn’t even get the gom jabbar right.
Being weird? Again, same (which is good though. *Dune is weird* )
Both my Mom and Dad just LOVED this film years ago.
holy heck David Lynch knocked this one out of the park he perfectly captured the book some of the best casting I have ever seen.
"Perfectly captured the book"....wow this is such nonsense. Have you read the book? He had it even rain in the end of the movie and gave it a happy ending and here you are saying "perfectly captured the book". Idiot. I like the movie but seriously, idiots like talking total BS, I hate that.
@@flybeep1661 oh f"£$ off nerd yes I read the book but he captured the tone his casting was great. so he had to make changes to please Hollywood guess what i don't care I enjoyed the art design and performances
honestly get a life loser
@@flybeep1661 i’m sure the fact that you disagree with Burn required you to be insulting… 😒 Jesus Christ no one knows how to interact with human discourse anymore. Your comment is disgusting.
@@flybeep1661 He didn't want to do that. The studio forced the changes. Originally it ended after Paul was "crowned" and Alia said "He is the Kwisatz Haderach". No rain. I think this was a classic example of a studio having you over a barrel and forcing you to change your vision. Kinda like what they did to Peter Jackson and the Hobbit. We would have gotten a vastly different film if they had left him alone.
Its about as believable in performance as 80's Flash Gordon.
One of the best stories written i ever saw. The movie gives me chills, each time i watch it. I love Dune. I so wish there would be more deep and fantasy, emotional touching Stories as dune.
This masterpiece teaches us, why we should stand up, for what is good and right, and not become the slave of money, or tyranny, and violence.
Best closing credit song to anything anywhere, kept you sitting and watching this movie all the way to the absolute end..Best song Toto ever made...
...closely followed by 'Africa'.. and 'Georgy Porgy'...
@J Thorn: I always go to this just to hear the end credits of Dune 1984.
@@Supersweetguy Hearing it always makes me sad that the movie is over. And that there are no sequels...
I feel the same way. Sadly they never play it live in any capacity. With the new film coming out one would only hope they used it.
What if they parodied Africa as Arrakis, and changed the lyrics to make it fit?
I kinda like the end theme to blade runner too though ....
This music SCREAMS the 'getting up from having just watched a film and wandering out with loads of other people and that odd hushed atmosphere' vibe. I shut my eyes and I'm there wiping popcorn crumbs off my front after every cinema trip ever in my life.
One of the best Casts ever in a Motion Picture. I mean no exaggeration here.
+ Jurgen Prochnow, Patrick Stewart, Paul Smith. Even Alicia Witt has grown quite graceful actress.
@@klausheino6986 It's an odd mix that were cast but it worked really well.
Totally agree. Phenomenal cast.
Too bad the studio screwed the pooch and didn't let this be a 3 hour movie according to Lynch's vision.
Jose Ferrer was phenomenal as the Emperor, regal and austere... Sian Phillips as RM was just so smooth and graceful...
Great cast. A film I'll always have a soft spot for.
Don't know if you guys noticed but I love the ocean waves in the background of this. The desert planet of Arikis, at the end of the movie it started raining and now at the ending credits we see an ocean. That's some dramatic change that also hit along with this score.
I think that's actually planet Caladan where House Atreides ruled and where the movie opened. It's like Paul was remembering there to make it rain on Arrakis.
The one thing that is bothersome about the ending is that water kills worms, so essentially the spice will go extinct.
Con il mare la Spezia sparirà come faranno a viaggiare nello spazio?ci avranno pensato?
@@FreakyLynx this concept is actually explored later in the books, i hope this doesnt spoil much but dune gets terraformed and is basically a paradise but the worms become a sort of endangered species and theres some drastic measures to preserve them.
@@FreakyLynx According to Muad’dib, “For the Spice, there will always be some desert”.
Could the Sandworms have been deep underground?
Excellent close-credit music, positively epic in the sense it conveys, as well as being an impressive collaboration between a rock band (Toto) and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. Finest kind!
Apart from a few little bits as a kid I only watched this film a few weeks ago. I can see why it was a failure at the time but I can honestly say it's one of the best sci-fi films I've ever seen. A real emotional roller coaster and this track at the end had me literally in pieces. Stunning film and score.
DUNE; The number 1 science fiction book and movie of all time. Excellent job Toto.
Why was just everything sooo much better in the 80s....It was like one of the Golden Ages of the World!
Grown-ups in the 80's were saying that about the 50's, it's just nostalgia.
@@David-dl6zg Also, history filters out the crap. No one goes back to watch the crappy movies that were made in the 80s, we only go back for the good ones, so those are the only ones that remain relevant and are remembered. Having said that, some truly epic stuff was made in the 80s, Dune, Labyrinth, The Nevereding Story, Ghostbusters, the Back to the Future trilogy, and several other timeless classics.
@@RudeAlert But that's just it....we are making remakes of everything we did in the 80s. From movies to music. So something special was happening. A decade of creativity and enlightenment. But, it did spawn the 2000s, which weren't so great
@@jamesmclamb2098 It's also likely that the ones making the remakes, and the ones paying for them, happen to currently be of an age to make such movies, and be interested in paying to see them.
Though again, as I said before, some truly awesome stuff did in fact come out of the 80s. Maybe it was sort of a right-time-right-place kinda thing; movies had been around long enough for a whole generation of film-makers to exist who had lived with movies their whole life, but things also hadn't gone so completely corporate and standardized, so inspired content was still a valid option.
It was the last golden age of optimism. Before technology stripped us all of humanity.
This will always be my favorite version. The look, style and presentation was epic. The sets, the production, the cast, the script, the directing... It breaks away from the book and takes lots of artistic license, but I like the ways in which it did. This is Dune THE MOVIE as far as I'm concerned. Lynch's re-envisioning of Dune is brilliant.
It was the 1984 ending scene I will always remember.
This credit format is so beautiful. I loved seeing each person in it's purist character form. The water was so deep meaning too to the story. How water is such importance to life. I wished the new DUNE was as creative as this.
Dune 1984 is a classic. RIP Leonardo Cimino. Jose Ferrer. Freddie Jones. Richard Jordan. Silvana Mangano. Kenneth McMillan. Jack Nance. Paul Smith. Dean Stockwell and Max von Sydow.
Can't wait for the Lynch Cut of this movie. He has said that he is finally opened up to do it
It's gotta be better than the Smithee version, with the Whataburger guy narrating in place of the Princess Irulan.
My God !! since 1986 how beautiful all this remains !!
Such an incredible soundtrack. Would be awesome if they included it at the end of Part 2.
I actually think doing the same musical piece and the vignettes would be fitting
The entire soundtrack fit every part of this movie very well, not one track felt out of place.
always love ths awesome beautiful music, I like how all the characters are in it good and bad with the same music accompanying them, it binds them all together as one
Exactly Jim. That’s how I see it.
They could have easily just used still photos to show each character. The choice to actually film each person adds a special charm to these end credits. It's something I haven't seen any other film do.
I cant get enough of this song and the visuals, it's so good
Incredible beginning credits and end credits scenes, no matter what you think about the movie itself.
i think this movie chani casting much better dune2 2024
Melancholy power ballads by Toto are the best!
More Seriously! No matter how many times I listen to this, I still end up deeply moved. For many years, I got tears in my eyes, now not so much, but still, the feeling of deep reverence at what you've just watched I hope is still something anyone watching this movie can still feel.
When I saw this in a theater, I stayed for the credits because of this song.
Dune had such a cool score and cast, thanks for the upload.
One of the best sci-fi movies ever with a soundtrack that surpasses them ALL
This movie was ahead of its time
I love the end credits. I also feel that a lot of anime made after this movie had the same idea for this style of end credits, in some ways.
Dune
Fascinating movie from the opening till the end. ..
Such a beautiful combination of modern and classic instruments.
Happy 40th Anniversary of this best science fiction films from Universal Pictures: Dune 1984.
Thank you Toto for making this happen of you're music on this movie.
And Rest in Peace to any Actors and Actress from the cast of the film.
The integrity, dignity, and nobility of House Atreides is admirable. 👑
Sean Young has an underrated resume!
Nobody makes an entrance like Sean Young : Blade Runner; Dune - 1st scene of her holding a knife.
@@Auria51Ace Ventura
I’ve seen this movie like 1000 times since I was a kid I love the bizarreitude.. and as a Twin peaks fan I now adore Kyle Mclachlan!
Interesting that this looks like live footage of the principal characters...maybe not all of them. Kind of a living portrait.
It seems a mixture of both, which would've been clever if that's what they/Lynch did. Some of them look like still pics, others are clearly moving, especially of course the young Alicia Witt (who is over 40 now and gorgeous btw).
it almost looks like it could costume test footage, except for Kynes, who looks rotoscoped
Just saw the new Dune. If Villeneuve would do the same end credits in part 2 with this epic Toto music and show the new actors pictures, I would lose my mind.
I'm sure he won't, he's been much more focused on the book rather than any elements of the 1984 movie and wants the new films to be very different I believe, which is fair. I'm sure some editing wizard could manage to cut something together as a fan project though!
No, Zimmer will continue with these howlings and discarded music from Man OF steel 🤣🤣🤣🤣
They had Sting, we have Zendaya...
@@user-xx6vy9ri8p do you say about bad acting?
@@djwho75 No, about involving music stars in the project.
Movie is so underrated. For sci-fi fans it's a masterpiece idgaf what the critics say.
Amen lol
Agree completely.
100% agree
I be TRYIN ta TELL People!!!
People should learn to appreciate things for what they are, not for what they should have been
One of the best movies ever made.
Alicia Witt turned out to be a babe when she grew up. She played the redhead D-girl in the one sopranos episode. Fitting considering Alia was supposed to be a redhead, especially in the sequels that were never made.
So much amotion put into this score. I´ve always loved it.
The music is so relaxing
So 80's music !!
my favorite soundtrack of all time , I’ve been listening to it since the ‘80’s and I’ll never tire of it
The music is greatest.
Absolutely awesome ending credits. Just like the whole flick 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The gut memories this music evokes... memories of me.
Apparently this movie got terrible reviews and did not make money. As a kid, I didn't notice - because I was too busy having it as one of my absolute favorites! Thanks to David Lynch, Daniel Lanois and the Eno brothers, and everyone else for making the movie so EPIC! (long before "epic" lost its meaning through overuse)
I was 13 when I first saw this movie in 1985. It completely captivated me. And the end credits - these end credits - are a work of timeless evocative genius - by TOTO!
If you've stumbled across this for whatever reason, recognise superior talent!
If they don't play this song during the end credits of the final movie of the new version, we riot!
Legendary cast. Legendary soundtrack. Legendary director.
This will begin to make things right...
Yes, and since Denis Villenueve is readapting this novel into a two-part movie. Dune will be split into two movies, and maybe more as what he stated. I hope that he nails it this time so we can see the succeeding books adapted into the big screen up until the 6th book titled Chapterhouse Dune.
Dune 84 was a great movie. Lynch's interpretation was so visually stylish and gritty. I think it's underrated and it's trendy to hate on it by people that have read the books and are miffed that it's not an exact representation of them.
The music, the FX, all incredible.
Also Sean Young and Francesca Annis were hot :)
I came here because of Zimmer's Dune, but this music and the form of the end credits is something unique. I think only the Return of the King end credits can beat that.
It's the best ever sci-fi movie adaptations from novels. Ha always love this movie.
It should be consider a masterpiece of sci-fi movies.
This one part of Dune is better than the entire new Star Wars trilogy.
Most anything is better than the new Star Wars trilogy.
That's not too hard The Room is better than the new Star Wars trilogy
It's funny, because it's true. :D
The new Star Wars trilogy sucks dicks in hell
Truth!
The end credits theme by Toto makes me cry. The sum emotional total of Paul.
Aside from the music, what makes the end credits unique is that the actors are live action and, even though unmoving, absolutely in character. And they were so well cast.
There are elements I would criticize, but none of that.
When I first saw this for Christmas of “84” in my late teens. I knew this would become a cult classic instead of a Hollywood formula box office hit. It seemed to cerebral for the general moviegoers back then but I understood David Lynch’s vision here and he shouldn’t be embarrassed by this major effort. I loved it from the very beginning but feel like that audience failed him as that visionary director that he is not the other way around. It may not be truly faithful to Frank Herbert’s novel but that’s the job of the director who takes on the challenge with an epic story such as this. They inject their style, vision, and atmosphere of creativity. The sets to the costume design to art direction, music, casting, and make-up was done on such a scale of bravado. Honorable mentions to Bob Ringwood, Toto, Dino de Laurentiis, and Rafaela de Laurentiis for bringing this to the big screen years ago which I consider now an extremely underrated classic.
Such a great movie. So many great actors, much of them already departed...
A great film for its time. This piece of music is soooo 1980s
A good cast is worth repeating.
Legendary cast. I don't know of any current actor who could carry the air of aristocracy like Jose Ferrer, Jurgen prochnow, and Max Von Sydow. Dean Stockwell's finest performance. Kenneth MacMillan appropriately revolting. Sting despicable. Francesca Annis graceful and courtly. Linda Hunt perfect as Shadout Mapes. Also Everett McGill's best work, gritty and commanding. All of the Bene Geserit were perfect. It's a shame that there were no best supporting actor awards for this movie. The only miss in casting was Paul Smith, can't get past his roles in HEE HAW and the Hey Vern movies
I like the original more than the remake. I think it captured the spirit of the book far better.
Why does this remind me of resident evil's credits (the 1996 game not the movie)?
Many of them have gone now, sadly. But this is a great memoriam for the Baron, Raban, Duncan Idaho and others. Curiously they died in the books and film too!
And they say nowadays the soundtrack music aren't relevant ...Hollywood is sick... The new Dune version can't barely notice the soundtrack and forgetable...
Yeah...Hans Zimmer frame more like it.
The guy is so overrated.
As soon as you hear the ENO and Toto soundtrack you never forget.
Don’t you fucking disrespect Hans Zimmer like that. This one doesn’t even feel like Dune, it feels like fucking Joss Whedon after killing Darkseid
I've always liked this theme.
Fun Fact: the lead singer for Toto (who worked on this film) is the son of a very famous film composer. His name is Joseph Williams and his father is THE John Williams (Not making this up at all)
THIS Jessica is unparalled among the three I saw. I watched that movie when I was young and now after seeing its flaws, I still love soooo many elements of it! The awsome score included. Pretending Dune 1984 doesn't exist kills some of my love for the latest Dune. For me. Hey, it's just me...
This is just too good. Thanks for uploading! A big thumbs-up.
Music is unforgettable.
Beautiful music
Like "YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING" on a David Croft sitcom. I like it.
Imagine this ghostly actors appear without this music... there would be no such effect, this music really has strength
Is this version available for purchase anywhere? I mean, I you buy the soundtrack OST, you'll get a stripped down, band version of this track. Not bad, but this version above is truly superior.
Sean Young had a pretty good career back in the 80s and early 90s until she was blacklisted from Hollywood.
One of my favorite films of all time. And how many of these great actors have now passed.
Chokes me up to see it even now, frequent Lynch collaborators like Jack Nance and Kenneth McMillan. Legendary actors like Sian Phillips, Richard Jordan...at least if theyre here on film they never truly die
Intriguing music score and end credits. ❤
Toto is awesome!

I don’t care about the critics .I adore this masterpiece so much
Classic.
Frank Herbert wrote "Dune" for publication during the Psychedelic 1960s so "Navigators" snort "Melange" excreted by "sandworms" to "mind warp" or "hallucinate" to travel anywhere until they mutate into walrus creatures.
I met his son Brian to sign a book "Chani and Irulan may you fold space".
Still "Dune Encyclopedia" on "frigates" had an interesting commentary on heat engines.
TAKE MY HAND.......
Got to see this on the big screen (from a 35mm original print) on Nov 6, and everyone who came, except a few people, stayed all the way to the end, because (I hope......it's why I stayed) of THIS piece of music!!!!
