I'm in Kenosha, Wisconsin renovating an 1899 frame church for my woodworking/studio/personal space. What a riot finding out my favorite DIY guy doing the same thing! Thanks for all your help Jeff!
Well! Jeff! You have quite the skill set to fix just about anything that breaks down unexpectedly! You got this Jeff! I will "channel Jeff" the next time something breaks down when I am doing reno's or tasks! You are an inspiration...and thanks for the tip to get students to paint. And..yes! Life has curve balls thrown..thanks for keeping things real. Keep smiling, you got this! Thanks Jeff💯👍🇨🇦
Absolutely a great video showing if you keep your head you can overcome adversity. Thanks.
Absolutely! Cheers Larry! Problem meet solution
Wholehearted as always. Keep up the good work team!
Thank you for the reality and honesty of DIY projects. Truth is in short supply these days.
Such a great transformation, already! The color is great! So much more modern!
I love your channels! Can't wait to follow you and your family during this project!
Great job up’s and downs. But you did it.
The shed video is a classic. Also how most home projects went in my family as I was growing up lol (and still does haha)
I really love the color!
By far my favorite CZcams channel.
Thanks for the dose of DIY reality!
You are so welcome!
Thanks for that final advice. I will keep it in mind for the next couple (?) of months as I'm tackling my next project...
I appreciate you for all I have learned from your videos.
Why are you re-uploading? Havent we already seen this?
you saw how to stain brick. this is more about the challenges of using rental equipment
The suspensful music while taking down the cross😂
I almost lost it and poor Max was standing right under us!
A great dose of reality in this video.
I approach all jobs around the house by considering the worst case scenario and how to recover.
Then if things don't get that bad, I'm already ahead. If they do, then I am at least somewhat prepared.
I've worked on too many cars in my driveway, or on the side of the road over the years, to ever expect the job to go smoothly.
That's how you gotta approach things.
Oh no is that overspray on the soffit?!
First thing I noticed. I can imagine it's tough to avoid unless you tape it off. That spray wants to curl up into that corner. It does really show and not sure how you'd fix that. Painting the vents might just block them up entirely.
Ive learned my lesson. Those tow behind genies always have issues when rented
Right!
NOOO how could you paint that beautiful brick!?? Paint goes out of fashion but brick is classic and always in style! Also you've added maintenance to something that didn't require it before!
Looking forward to this project! Great new twist. Love to see something like in Breaking Bad, digging out a 2 story basement, under a church, put in LED windows to simulate day light effects.
It was heartbreaking to see that beautiful red brick painted over with a flat boring grey. Also there was red brick still showing through the paint, especially in the corners. not sure if you plan on applying another coat to cover it.
nice color looks great ..
Thank you! Cheers!
Max your narrative flow is fantastic, i still think you need a handheld to cut to. $ i know. But it would be very nice to mix it up.
I had a similar problem with a rented skid steer years ago. I rented one and when they delivered it it stopped running as he was unloading from a trailer. Then the delivery guy tells me he doesn't have a winch on his trailer so they will have to send another truck and trailer to pick it up. Then I was told the truck that was coming to deliver a replacement skid steer and pick up the other one broke down on the road. Lol! They finally get it delivered and within 2 hours of using the replacement skid steer the hydraulics stopped working ! They sent a mechanic and he said it needed a new hydraulic line and would return within an hour. Then I got a phone call saying it would take two days for the part to come in. Long story short I ended up with a broke skid steer sitting on my yard for two days ,when they finally fixed it they gave me a full refund and let me keep it for 2 days rent free. 🙃 I have since realized rented equipment gets severely abused and it's a crap shoot when you rent if you get a good one or not. But considering how much heavy equipment cost what are ya going to do!? I guess we are just at the mercy of the equipment gods! Lol!
Yup Life happens. Cheers!
It is good to show the struggles that we all deal with and not gloss over it like other channels.
Jeff say when he pull down the cross " I see the light.. i see the light"
😂
As you said, when we diy it all seems to go to the wall. It’s good to know that rule applies to everyone.
I may be able to avoid a lot of pitfalls, however life tends to always keep us humbled.
@@REALITYRENOVISION sounds like someone's been spending a lot of time in church.. regardless of zoning
If you have wasps wait until dusk and then spray, they are not likely to fly around or attack you. At dusk they are a lot less active and easier to approach.
18:23 very good advice👍. Appreciate that you guys record this stuff and actually make videos about it. This is true DIY content, helps viewers learn, and what makes your channel stand out above the rest IMO.
Cheers!
Hey. I love watching your videos. I have an easy solution to any future WASP or hornet issues. All you need is Sunlight dish detergent and water. You need to mix them together in a sprayer, whatever size that will be appropriate for the job at hand. The amount of Sunlight is not a given. I put a couple of good squirts in a spray bottle and add water to fill.
Wasps wear their skeleton on the outside.. exoskeleton. The soap breaks down the exoskeleton (I honestly don't know how), and the water drowns them. You spray the little buggers with it and they drop right out of the air. Plus, there's no toxic fumes, etc.
Hope you give it a try.
Didn't he have the same problem at his farm house?? Man,I would find a different company to rent equipment from! Lol!
I've used carburetor cleaner to kill the wasps at my home. The spray stream is narrow and I found they drop like a stone. Give it a try.
Yikes, the overspray on those eaves.
Hey great channel and renovation topics. Just an fyi from a professional equipment operator, anyone using these lifts is required to have a fall arrest harness on secured to the basket. Something to look into for your safety and others.
Appreciate the support! What about a video showcasing how to set up and properly use a fall arrest system? Yay or nay?
Little hack for getting those plugs out.. just send in a screw that will hit the fastener inside and the threads will pull it right out. I use the same concept to get the leftover wood out of a hole saw, which we all know can be a pain
hello Jeff not sure if you have fixed you Genie wiring issues we had the same thing happen and used a Reese Towpower 7 way trailer connector from Canadian Tire and wired it in to use a quick disconnect it mounted nicely on the side just a little bit higher and to the left of wire yours got pinched. The Reese connector really handy for transport and storage.
Hi Jeff, could you explain how you determined the amount of stain needed for this project, and the cost?! ~ Pls & Thnk-U Also the original stain color... you had planned to go with, I'm curious to know...I have a house to stain... and I've been looking at every gray there is... I love the color the Church is... but now I'm beyond curious to see what color you picked instead of it.
That painting company should be training at least 1 person to operate a lift. For the lift program and fall arrest tickets are far cheaper than any fine or life.
Hard to say from angles but it looks like the machine was too close to the building. What size of machine was it? I use a 65' at work and would never question it's lifting capacity. My coworker and myself combined are 430 lbs and we've installed hardy at its max reach on 3 storey walls with no issues.
A gas machine seems like it would make life easier there to get around? Next time you have to work around wires, call hydro they come and put guards up on the wire to prevent any arcing.
As much as you got the wrong gray, that's still a beautiful colour, an acid wash on that limestone and it should pop even more
PTL!!! Hi! Sweetie, Y'all need to spray th wasps early morning while it's still dark almost light..... That's HOW I DID IT!!! Blessings & Merry Christmas Love th show!
pause at 6:01 to a see a happy wife hug her hubby when he gets safe back on the ground tee hee
Anyone else had that thought, when Jeff was floating thrue the sky wit that cross? Or was it just me.
No disrespect but please make sure that lift is insulated if you are going to be operating within 15ft of power lines. Love the content good luck
Where do you get the brick stain in Canada?
Perma-Crete Color Seal Concrete Stain is what we used here. You can get it at paint suppliers.
I thought stone surfaces and brink needed to breath?
Put 2 coats of paint on it to make it "bullet proof" as you stated would make that ability no more and cause rot and decay later on?
Not only that, paint will always need fixing down the road. The natural brick would need far less over the same time frame. Natural brink and stone will always look better than anything painted in the long run as well.
Never clicked faster.
Please give me a heart Jeff. C’mon man.
Where is your safety harness?
Great to see church videos. I can't wait to see what you guys have in store for us. It also feels good to know that even a seasoned pro runs into troubles. Great advice, Great Mindset. Your transparency is incredible. Thanks Jeff🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thanks for watching!
To accomplish most handyman/renovation projects you don't have to be a rocket scientist, but when you encounter the inevitable equipment failures and unforeseen issues, you do have to be a Macgyver. In the famous words of a Zimbabwe Bushman; "The only way to eat an elephant, is one bite at a time."
Hi Jeff….. I know renting a lift is great….but when the fcken machine does not correctly work it sucks!
Quick note about wasps, speaking from experience: if you can, tackle the problem on a cool day, or super early in the morning. They're WAY less energetic and much easier to subdue.
ETA: I like the colour, maybe a bit more than I expected when it first started going up. Also, did you say it's called _Gibraltar_ ? Was it deliberate to choose a paint colour with religious associations for a one-time church? Seems fitting.
There was a mistake with the colour... must've been God's plan. 😂
Hard to tell on video, but it looks like they got quite a bit of grey on the soffits. 😕
What’s the difference between the two channels?
On our main channel we stick to DIY tutorials. That's our bread and butter. This channel is going to be more experimental - behind the scenes, lifestyle, side projects, time lapse and any other cools suggestions that people are interested in seeing. Cheers!
Guess you upset Jesus taking down that cross lol
Funny! Cheers!
Talking about carrying the cross.
I was afraid jeff will drive the boom up and not be able to come down anymore. 🙈
For crying out loud. When it rains it pours huh? It's times like these I work on the colorful side of grammar use.
WWJD - What Would Jeff Do
Whoever designed the wire harness paths for that lift should be fired lol
its funny how the person who's deathly allergic to bees is the one trying to kill them lol . Should of sent max to kill the bees lol
Max? You hear that? 😂
don't cuss at a church, they have long memories and a penchant for vengeance.
😂
I feel like these painters didn't know what they were doing and were ill equipped and maybe they need to go through a lot more training.
Scaffolding never glitches. Maybe a higher power doesnt want the church touched??
😂
For all the red brick architecture lovers just watch this video in reverse. A beautiful red brick is revealed behind ugly grey paint!
Love the vids but the panic-y music played during the cross removal reminds me of the cheesy reality tv shows. I think your vids could go without it because just listening to Jeff is entertaining enough.

No worries God isn't in real estate!
