- Recorded live on stage in Charlotte,NC on February 21,1977. This is the only time Moody Blue was performed live by Elvis. They had made an attempted at playing it the night before, but the band didn't know the song that well. So Elvis had promised someone in the audience that they would learn it, and play it the next night. This is a soundboard recording and the sound is amazing. It comes from the Import CD "Moody Blue & Other Great Performances" on the Fort Baxter label. The earlier release "Riot In Charlotte" was an audience recording, and the sound was not good to say the least. All picture's in this video of Elvis are from the two show in Charlotte February 20 & 21,1977.
I remember this one I worked that concert and I was in the end zone of the arena behind elvis I actually see myself in this video. I remember someone stole my camera that night but I had the film in the other pocket. I went down after the show to see if I could find it and the guard took me back stage where elvis was and there were peanut shells on the floor. But it was a great concert, I remember my boss telling me not o let anyone come down and stand. I looked at him and then told him you have got to be kidding . All the ladies heard the limo coming in then I looked up and here come all these women running I was only 17 at the time . I got nervous and held on to the bar and put my legs through it. Elvis got out of the limo looked up at me and held his hands out as if he wanted me to jump down . I smiled said yeah I don't think you would catch me and I laughed he shrugs his shoulders and smiles . Then one of his body guards come up to help me out .

Right on bro. Me and my brother's/friends were members of the Q95 Sunshine club in Indianapolis Indiana and got to hang out back stage with all the rock bands before every concert in Market Square Arena, this was before they tore it down. Being a member of the club you always get first crack at tickets, and back then it was open seating but they small roped off section on the first level that was always reserved for Sunshine club members. $25 per year, what a steal. People weren't smart enough to know how to do it,we knew though.

Moody Blue was on the charts when Elvis died & was playing on the radio. I loved this song & I Loved Elvis with all my heart. When I heard STILL hear this song I get chills & tears..I loved Him so.

Elvis Presley, had a brilliant voice, great personality, extreme good looks, impeccable manners, good morals and principles, kindness n empathy but he was exploited by the greed of man n the system who took all they could get off this humble shy man, Elvis was a one off never to be forgotten 👍
With all of the pressure of his touring schedule, Elvis' vocals never seemed to suffer. He really gave his all for his fans.
Elvis is the greatest entertainer of all time and he will always be the one and only king of music.

My mother absolutely LOVED this song (I do too) Elvis could sing the back of a Betty Crocker Cake box and it would be THE BEST EVER. Sadly he died on my moms birthday, I thought it was the end of the world, (it was for me and I was only 8) and I can honestly say a piece of my heart died with him that day!
I was 9, Lisa Marie and I born 2 days apart 1968.
My Mom and I would listen to his gospel music every morning while I waited on the school bus. I had funeral home play Elvis gospel at her wake.

Just fantastic......its so sad Elvis never toured the world i think if Elvis played the Albert hall London it would of brought London to stanstill....Elvis is the number one male voise of all time...

I will forever while I'm still conscious always listen to the king not only does he have a good voice but he was a wonderful human being a woman stranded on the side of the road with a baby in the back seat having car problems... car pulls up beside her gives her an address to go get a car from a dealership across the road she gets there the car is paid for she wants to meet the person that helped her the garage Attendant told her you'll never see him... that was Elvis, Didn't even know the woman and he still took time out of his day to help someone... Not only is that a good heart, but also a good man.

The greatest voice ever!
I was at this concert sitting in the 11 11th row center floor seat. Elvis actually started it twice because he did not like the key it was in the first time. I remember it very well as It had been playing in the radio. I had yet to buy it. But I did as soon as it hit the record store. Since then I have become great friends with an up close and personal friend of Elvis who was working for Elvis. He was also his personal assistant and spent a lot of time with During the concert tours and at home in Graceland . He has some awesome personal stories about Elvis and his generosity that most have never heard. Such great stories
This is actually an amazing performance of this song! Sounds just like the album version which is difficult to pull off considering he had such a wide variety of music spanning his career.
I heard Moody Blue by another group a long long time ago & then thought it was the sexiest song ever & now Elvis has brought it back to life & he does the best version ever!!!!

I was at that concert the day before, in Charlotte. Was 11 years old. I was so disappointed when they started on Moody Blue, but couldn't get it right. At the time it seemed to me like Elvis didn't know it, but the band did. He was reading the lyrics, and then decided to not do it.
I remember being frustrated because Elvis played with the fans near the stage so much, and seemed to really sing so little. I also remember that $15 for a concert then was unheard of. That was double what rock concerts, for big bands, were charging.

I was 11 and there with a friend. I remember i wasn't worried and afraid - I'd never let my 11 year old daughter go to a concert today!!!!!!
This was better than I expected - not perfect, but better than some of the Elvis critics had claimed.

This is pretty cool. My parent's first house was on Hickory Nut Street, not far from the arena. It is still in use, now sponsored by Bojangles. The Checkers play there sometimes when TWC Arena is booked and they still do concerts for lesser known acts and Indy bands. Its still alive and well, that's for sure, I'm very happy that they didn't tear it down like they did the second Charlotte Coliseum. The area around the old Coliseum has gone downhill somewhat in past years, a lot of the buildings, hotels, and shopping centers still look like they did in the 1960's and 1970's. I hope they can keep this 60's charm without having to tear everything down.

I was 9 y/o and at this concert right at the stage. I was there with my Mom and Dad. Ironically if I had a theme song it would be “Moody Blue” def my personality lol.

This was a very good concert and a great, clear minded singer AND considering his death was supposed to be August 1977 and they say he was a blithering man just six months after this performance, I have to seriously wonder if his death was faked.

When I get on a kick, I will listen to a song multiple times, multiple versions where available; with this one I thought I hit a snag --until this video. Given the circumstances and where Elvis was at this point his career and life, I'm happy enough that it was in the key of the recording and even the softer tone is good. Fits in with the song. The band did fine.

The only time Moody Blue was sung live, right? Released Dec 1976 as a single, recorded in Feb 1976 if I'm not mistaken. Way Down, by contrast, was not performed in concert. It was recorded 29 Oct 1976, I believe.
