Ok so in Melbourne in the eastern suburbs, there are a few suburbs with gang activity but the most well-known suburbs in Melbourne for being real sketchy is Dandenong and Frankston
western Sydney is basically Australia's Detroit, I'm a Melbourne boy myself but I think it's safe to say western Sydney is Australias Detroit, not as bad but its Australia's sketchiest place

The realest shit in Melbourne is always in north side, just like Sydney cos Sydney west is opposite of the city just like Melbourne north is, even the “greater” north area shares the 37-27 post code except with a 3 instead of a 2 because they’re laid out the same. West side is the only other side that can compete with Northside but there difference between northern suburbs and everywhere else is that ALL of the northern suburbs have a name whether it be Broadmeadows, Fawkner, Pascoe vale, coburg, preston, reservoir, thomastown, lalor, Epping, Mill Park, mernda. All the “areas” are right next to each other and everyone knows each other. The west have their fucked up suburbs like tarneit, sunshine, St. Albans and Werribee but it’s like 1 in every few suburbs that go off. GRANTED that when the suburbs in the west are bad they tend to stand out cos they’re not so close to each other and coming from a Northsider, the west side can be pretty fucked. Eastern suburbs, especially near Eastland is known by everybody else in Melbourne as the “rich kids that wanna be gang” place to everyone else except themselves barring 1 or 2 suburbs cause there are hoods everywhere. South can get a bit fucked up but northern suburbs of Melbourne have always been known as the areaaa, everyone knows who the broadly boys are or the old thomo sharps and how everything’s broken off into the new gen.

Tbh I live on the Gold Coast and I’m not even sure if Sydney is better or worse than Melbourne when it comes to crime. All I can say is that the Sydney they are from is a little bit away for The city hence ‘West Sydney’ and they are actually proper hoods. Even here in Gold Coast although we don’t really have ‘gangs’ we still get stabbings and a lot of punch ons. Punch ons are way more accepted across Australia as it’s a fair way to settle beef (if it’s 1 on 1) and both can walk away agreeing to disagree and still breathing.
