  • This was my ferreting film entry to the 2018 DNA Film festival, held at The Northern Shooting Show in Harrogate, May 11th 2018. I was awarded the prized 'Highly Commended' award on the night for my film, 'Ahead of the Game' Ahead of the game is the title of my new book of which i wrote with the fantastic Scott Rea of the Scott Rea project. The aim of our book is not just to put rabbit back on the table with a fantastic butchery section and over fifty mouth watering recipes but to educate the wider world on how I harvest my rabbits. I delve into the history, look at why we fell out of love with the rabbit and how we fell back in love with rabbit. This book is much much more than just another cook book, that is why we are, 'Ahead of the Game' For ordering details please go to www.awaywithmedia.com

    I remember meeting this guy at Lowther fair. Brilliant show. Inspired me to get a ferret. Mine turned out to be a feret polecat cross called Hades. I don't work him but am getting a worker stock kit in the end of May/June. Looking forward it!

    Must agree with Mr Whitehead about the ferrets. A true working strain is a very very rare breed these days. Its taken me 10 years to get a line that I would actually call true working stock. I've been in and around the game for over 40 years. After trying good stock from all corners of the UK I ended up breeding from good old Yorkshire Stock and to be honest I doubt there could be any better.I've been obsessed with ferrets since I was a kid. But the state of ferrets in the uk is pitifull as far as working stock goes.

      Not everyone wants to work ferrets their popular pets, yous need to stop shaming breeders and keepers who don't hunt

    Hi Simon , exellent video! I was wondering if you could help me as I have two working ferrets (Jill&hob) but I have recently noticed that she keeps scruffing him and he is getting fed up with her pestering her. Do you know why this is? Is it hormonal? Good luck with the film and keep up the good workCheers:)

    Really enjoying your vids mate esp being new to this great sport! I have a question about ferret collars. How do you train your ferrets to wear there collars?

    • @nzferreter
      @nzferreter Před 4 lety

      Geoff Wilson the tricky part is putting them on. The more you do it at a younger age, the more they become accustomed to it and comfortable with the whole process. Unlike cats and dogs, they just deal with it rather than trying to get the collar off. Well, that’s just my personal experience.
