High Octane Classics is proud to offer this absolutely stunning 1968 GTX tribute. Shown in yellow gold over a black and gold interior. This B body received a nut and bolt restoration to a high level about 5 years ago. The body on this car is a straight as they come and the paint still looks wet, with no orange peal or nonsense, it is show quality. Everything on this car is either new or refurbished from front to back, leaving no disappointments for the new owner. Powered by the famous 440 SIX PACK engine, the carbs are tuned perfect on this unit. Getting all of this power to the ground is a 727 automatic transmission backed by a gear venders overdrive unit down to sure grip 8 3/4 rear end with 4.10 gears. This car has all the show and all the go! The undercarriage is just as nice with no poor patch work or short cuts, this car is done right.

I graduated from high school in 1968 and several older friends of mine had these cars along with road runners 396 chevelles I loved all those cars, what a time to be a young man. Thanks Steve it takes me back to a much better time.
Only if we could trade age!
You are right what a time to be young, too bad many of our gen. went to Viet Nam. It tarnished that better time.
I had a 68 stingray .. by Schwinn
In the 60’s I think the only genera motors car that could beat a mopar in quarter mile drag would be the zl 1 camaro. Otherwise mopar had it all the way.
Mid 60's to early 70's were the BEST times for teenagers....cheap gas, cheap beer and muscle cars! Mine was a 68 Firebird 400.
Don't forget free love.
Send him back the junkyard gold
I was 18 in 1968 when my brother came home from the Army and bought a slightly used 67 Plymouth GTX. It was an column automatic with stock 3:23 gears and stock 440. There wasn't a GTO around that could beat him. Bone stock with only slicks on it, he won the trophy in his class at ATCO dragway, turning 14.01 @ 105 mph. The car was a beast!
That is one nice looking car. Thanks for the presentation Steve.
It's got Dead Body room in the trunk!! what an awesome car!! lol
I had a 69 GTX, 440 It was a Beast, loved that car, Of all the cars I had and then sold, I miss this car the Most !
@mrrpepsi24/ NO SHIT!!!!! I OWNED A 69 GTX BACK IN THE DAY AND I ALSO SOLD IT!!!!!! BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!!!!! I STILL MISS IT TO THIS DAY!!!!! UNLESS YOU'VE ACTUALLY OWNED ONE, YOU'LL NEVER UNDERSTAND!!!!! I ONLY SOLD MINE BECAUSE I THOUGHT THAT I COULD GET SOMETHING FASTER AND MEANER!!!! IT DID'NT HAPPEN, I BOUGHT SEVEAL FASTER AND MEANER, NONE COULD COMPARE TO THAT GTX!!!!! SHE WAS NOT ONLY BEAUTIFUL BUT WAS BIG AND BAD!!!!!
Very similar thoughts
My next door neighbor as a kid had a 68 383 Road Runner. The GTX and Road Runners were my favorite MOPARS of all time. Also present was a 66 GT350, a 69 SS 396 Camaro and an L87 Corvette. There were others but those were the stand outs.
The 440/six pack was a killer motor!
Darn well executed - what a monster! This is a “who cares if it’s original” car. And that cam lope…… Thanks for sharing. ~ Chuck
😍Oh wow, beautiful GTX👍
Nice Road Runner dude!
Boy that thing sounds good.
I had a sixty nine GTX 440 a beast
Been so fortunate in life to still have my 68 Barracuda that I have had since new. 😊
Man, that is a fantabulous interior. Built just right, too, if it was a 4-speed it'd be PERFECT in my eyes. I had a Satellite RoadRunner clone with a GOOD 383 and 5-speed Tremec years ago in high school, awesome car, even handled fairly well.
BEAUTIFUL STUNNING CLASSIC ON MY BUCKETLIST GREAT REVIEW VIDEO/ WOW THAT BIG BLOCK SOUND MAN. OMG.
JUST LOVE THESE GTX ESPECIALLY THE 72 GTX HIGH GEARS FIRST GEAR WAS SO GEARED LIKE SECOND GEAR WIND OUT BURN 🔥 THOSE TIRES HIGHWAY GEARS
The 1968 did not have the cutouts already in the hood for that year. It was all formed steel and closed. That started in 1969 to have the N96 air grabber. Very hard to find an original 68 RR/GTX hood. They are only repopping the 1969 style hood. Which is most likely what got used on this car. Both the 68 & 69 have the same dimensions and bolt pattern for the scoop pieces.
Beautiful Steve, love the engine detail s
Fantastic content. thank you for sharing. have a nice day!❤👍
Beautifully built car!
get well soon Steve!
I graduated from Engineering college in 1971;and trade a 1968; Roadrunner in for a Royal Blue 1970 GTX!! It was so fast!! 375 Hp and 440 cu in.
This one was originally a six-cylinder car with the VIN for the win: R for Belvedere, H for High price class (Satellite in this case), 23 for two door hardtop, B for 225 CID Slant Six with one barrel, aka "Leaning Tower of Power", 8 for 1968 model year, A for Lynch Road, Detroit, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Lynch Road facility closed in April 1981 and last assembled the "R" body cars.
No tag, can't brag, but possible Yellow Gold exterior paint, code "H".
?
Tribute car.
@@googleusergp a well done one
Originally a Slant Six.
@@googleusergp sir I do not get your point. It's a tribute a well done one. Personally,if GTX was my game, I would take this around the world rather than a real one
BEAUTIFUL!
The rare ones are the a/c equipped ones, with the standard 440 4bbl engine. Saw a loaded silver one with black vinyl top and bucket seat interior. Tinted glass, power everything. Sure grip with 3.23 gears though.
Mine was a silver 68 GTX 4 on floor. Convertible. Terrible in snow . Loved that car. It was fast.
Steve is the man. Long live Mopar
Steve your the best
very nice car...no apologies needed for it for sure💪👌
The high performance black vinyl top is a must have option
Looks stupid.
It completely ruins the sleek look of the car.
my brother .. Steve … Lwts get you a couple undershirts a nice pair of kakis and a pair of decent shoes . Clean up the game man ! love your work !
these cars couldn't get out of their own way !
Sweet!
I'll never forget a blue version of this was sitting in a field behind a persons house in the neighborhood where I grew up as a teenager.... When I went to the door to ask what the deal was with this (as if I had money to buy anything ) ...The nice lady told me it was her son's and he was out of the country and he didn't it sold ever.
I had a 69 gtx with ram air. Miss it dearly. Drunk slammed into it when parked.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
A fellow up the street from me had one of these (silver with blue striping and blue interior). I would have bought it from him while I was in high school (early 1980s) but didn't have near the money to do so. By odd chance, some years later I got to drive it when he was moving to a new house, so I can take some satisfaction in that. He later sold the car and I don't know what happened to it, but I suspect it is still in existence...somewhere.
Great presentation, never knew about GTXterminator, I do remember in 64 when Pontiac said that GTO stood for Get Tools Out.
Funny...it stands for Gran Turismo Omalagato
Gas, Tires, Oil....
Also gas tires and oil.
Title should have said GTX tribute.
I actually own a '68 GTX in this color.
Likely didn't say it because they're asking the same coin as a genuine real GTX.
I had a 68 GTX convertible silver metal flake
Plymouth sold 440 and 340 engines with three two barrel carbs, but they never called them Six Packs; all the Plymouths with three deuces, were called Six Barrels! Any Plymouth sold with three deuces in those days were marketed as Six Barrels. Check it out and you will find out that is what they were.
Doesn't matter, people called/call them Sixpacks.
A distinction without a difference.
Beautiful tribute car, but taping the overdrive wires to the shifter like that? Seriously?????
About as serious as the tach on top of the dash
Pretty sad.
If I was back then my car would be a 383 4barrel sport satellite
Hey Steve, What do you think about a stock 383hp vs 440hp as far as performance goes?
1969 440 GTX's ran low 14's to upper 13's at 102 to 104 mph, stock. Same year 383 Roadrunners averaged mid 14's at 98 mph, stock. Both were excellent starting points for wicked fast hot rods. 👍
Gentleman’s hot rod
Is it just my 63 year old eyes or is that Gear Vendors switch "taped" to the shifter?
No, you are correct. Great craftsmanship, huh?
👀...👍💯😎💯👍
why in the WORLD would you put a roadrunner horn on a GTX tribute...
Fuckin' hokey.
i thought it was 1.350 cfm thats what mine sain on my 69rr the 2 out boards carbs were 500 a piece and the center carb was 350
Nice interior, but oh no column shifter, yuk. I know you mean 440 6 barrel . You keep sayn six pack
I agree , that shifter looks like Christmas lights strung on a tree branch. A lot of people say six pack because it sounds cooler. I know that Plymouth called theirs 6 barrel.
Doesn't matter, people called/call them Sixpacks.
What is price? I want this car
No red line tires? That colum shifter is very sloppy,
How would this car do against a 396 l78
Would be a hell of a race 👍(Chevelle by a fender) 😆
Another pristine car that will just languish in a garage, maybe do the Saturday night car show too. I've had 10 garage Queens in my life, and that fear of bugs, birds and stone chips sucked the fun out of owning them. It's not worth it!!!!! Buy yourself a car with a killer drivetrain and a worn primer/paint job. Trust me, then you can drive the car without having a heart attack every time you find scratches etc.
You got the right idea! I’m building a similar to this ‘68 Satellite with the 440 4 speed. It’s satin black like I painted it back in ‘88. I’m building it to drive. It has no “matching numbers” and it’s not factory original. 😁
You can have "nice" paint and still drive it without "losing your mind."
383 sport satiate would be fun
Beautiful car ! Can I have it ?
You can if you buy it...
Mine was blue. 😢
why would somebody change a sport sattelite into a gtx
$$$$$$
I don't have a problem with "tributes" as long as sellers are up front about what the car is and buyers understand what they are getting. Nice car but I wouldn't call it a GTX unless it left the factory that way.
It didn't. This was a six-cylinder car originally. Mr. Magnante mentions it is a tribute, but the HOC website does not, but the VIN is a giveaway.
I agree. Seems like nobody cares anymore and just groups these 'clones' together with genuine 'Super Cars' or 'Muscle Cars'. They're OK to drive and have fun with but not as impressive or command the mystique of an original example. Now it seems these people just want the 'image' because there were NEVER enough of the originals made that survive. Whatever. 'Send in the Clones'.
@@googleusergp That's why I commented. No fender tag either. HOC website lists it as a Satellite- was it different yesterday?
@@danpatterson8009 It's an "RH" VIN car. The "R" is Belvedere, the "H" is High price class (which in 1968 included the Satellite, Barracuda, Signet and Sport Fury). A true GTX has an "S" for the 2nd VIN digit (for "Special" price class) in 1968.
He's wearing slippers and said it was a grey car.
Looks like you're running behind and just rolled out of bed to do this review 😂
I hate fakes. They do nothing but blur the history of great cars for future generations. Stop it!
Ok to watch a video….but the word tribute came up half way thru….NEEDED TO BE IN THE TITLE OF THE VID FOR REAL CRED
.......A weeks worth of groceries.....two bodies....a chain and a cement block! ....all in one trunk....!
Steve is a very knowledgeable and passionate car guy.
I like his content and appearances.
But he is a little too biased to Mopar.
Sponsorship or not.
Anyway you want to look at it it’s not a true GTX !!! It’s a clone If that was a true GTX the price would reflect that…. Without the factory GTX stamp on the motor, transmission and rear end it is just a plan Satellite!!!
This is when cars were cars not the b******* that they're selling today those were the good old days
You should list the price on your website. No baiting your followers to call in, that's some BS.
He's doing the video for High Octane Clasics, he's a employee in this instance, just doing it the way they wanted, aspires person
@@lcurtsinger4313 Co-owner!
A Belvedere thrown into a blender
Per Chrysler at the time 'GTX' was 'Gran Touring Express'. NOT 'Exterminator'. Where do you people come up with this? BTW, practically all car marques then seemed to have a 'GT' variant. Pontiac's 'GTO' stood for 'Gran Turismo Omologato' which is a racing class and a direct rip off of the Ferrari GTO, which they admitted.
Not a bad car, would have been nicer if they bothered to remove some of the underhood hardware before spraying everything in sight. And that sure is some kind of janky overdrive switch on the shifter. Makes you wonder about all the other work. Why not switch it with a high-beam/dip switch on the floor? Clean and out of sight. The other thing is those 'Beep Beep' horns get their unique sound from the coils being wound with aluminum wire vs copper as in a typical horn.
Pretty sure if that car is a clone, It would not have the same suspension as a true GTX
Dam it if your going to make a video on it at lease get the real McCoy !
