My great grandparents migrated from this area to Chachian Mirpur azad kashmir I had visited this area once🥺 my mamu always tells us the story how they moved and how hard it was to leave their areas 🥺 the graves of some of our descendants are still there🥺
Almost all of the men from this area were in the British army and Royal navy during the first World War and second world war and had been in the UK since the 1800s So when the dam was built the queen and the British government asked them to stay in the UK. 1.1 million people from this area live in the UK. Baba shera from tangdew in azad kashmir went to the boss of P&O In 1840s and asked him if he could be a foreman on the P&O Ships and manage the operations of the ships. The P&O boss said do you have experience he said no but I am a fast learners. so the P&O Boss gave him a job. Baba shera went to Colombo in Sri Lanka got on a big ship and went around the world that year. Came back as a foreman in charge of the ship operations. He was asked to bring more people. So he took 60 more people with him that year .then 360 people the following year. They built professional teams that managed the ship engines and the ship operations. Then in the world war 1 and world war 2 they were in the merchant navy and in the British army. 60,000 were in the British army directly and around 40,000 through the jammu and kashmir state forces in the second world war and a further 100,000 in the british royal navy and merchant navy. they served on every battlefield from the pacific, Indonesia to monty kasino in Italy. Then in 1947 when the Indian army invaded kashmir they fought back and stopped the Indian army that is why nehru went to the UN. And the un asked for a referendum in kashmir but india refused. The kashmiris wanted to be a part of pakistan. On the ships they used to go around the world every year. They have been in the UK since 1840. Very informative and interesting. This is the first time I have had the opportunity to know the history of Mirpuris migration. However tribals from NWFP formed a lashkar and joined the Kashmirs and fought against India in 1948
