I'm reading the book and he said this was an actual case he worked on.

true but it went different from the movie and its like 2 paragraphs:
I recall once defending an African woman who worked as a domestic worker in town. She was accused of stealing her 'madam's' clothes. The clothing that was allegedly stolen was displayed on a table in court. After the 'madam' had testified,
I begsn my cross-examination by walking over to the table of evidence. I studied the clothing and then, with the tip of my pencil, I picked up an item of ladies' underwear. I slowly turned to the witness box brandishing the panties and simply asked, 'Madam, are these ... yours?' 'No,' she replied quickly, too embarassed to admit that they were. Because of this response,
and other discrepancies in her evidence, the magistrate dismissed the case.

That woman is the one who is disgusting. Ten to one she was lying, knowing she would get away with it.

There is nothing that offends an oppressor more than being treated as an equal.

@@Ken_Frazer-619 Considering oppressors love to argue they're the ones being oppressed, and "equality" would just mean switching who the oppressing group is, I think that would embolden oppressors, actually. It would prove the bullshit arguments they use to justify their current dominance

Trust me, white people's logic in South Africa was pretty funny. Funny in the sense that those people thought of themself as intelligent at the same time 😂

What was the ratio between white English South Africans and white Afrikaner South Africans in 1948? It was around the time that this courtroom scene was set and Apartheid was introduced that same year. I am aware it was only in Natal Province, that English speaking white population was higher than the Afrikaans speaking white population. I think Orange Free State had the highest Afrikaans speaking percentage in the white population, followed by Cape Province, Transvaal and Natal. Of course, Transvaal had been, until only 46 years before 1948, the Afrikaans run and dominated South African republic.
