Fred, I was lucky enough to meet you at the Dayton, Ohio carving show a few years ago and saw this piece in person. I forgot to ask you if you sanded this carving or are you able to achieve such a smooth finish only using tools? I tell all of my carving students about your work and direct them to your website so they can truly observe a modern master at work! I love your work, keep it up.
Hi, Fred uses oil paints on his carvings. He seals his carvings first and than he paints them. If you check his other videos, there is one about wood preparation before carving and another one on finishing. Hana Zavadil
Hi Andre, I cannot really answer because Fred does not measure time when he is carving - and it is difficult to say because he carves when he feels like it - mostly 7 days a week, but the hours are different - sometimes 10 hours, sometimes 2 hours....
