At the heart of Nara City lies Nara Park (Nara Koen), famous for its population of more than 1,000 semi-wild sika deer that wander freely on its grounds at the base of Mount Wakakusa. Established in 1880, it is one of Japan's most ancient parks.

They should lock the deer out from areas so the pasture and grass can grow back. it will help the fly cycle a lot.

Do they know the deer population in the park? They look so beautiful and tame. They are not afraid of humans.

These deers are semi-wild. They probably started off wild over 1000 yrs ago but now there is nursery (open to public in spring I think) and the deer senbei is made and distributed. I am not sure if they are trained and tamed but they have been fed by people for so many years, may be bowing and not being afraid of the people could be self taught over the years. It was very memorable experience for me almost felt like a story in a children’s book. 😉

Have you folks been to cat island, rabbit island or seagulls island? I heard it is a unique experience. No five stars hotel but a unique adventure if you love animals.
I fell in love with the Japanese culture while taking fine art classes in college. We would studied their culture, their history, their architecture, their painting, and their cinema but the most important of all, their foods.
Lately the tourists who’s visiting Kyoto has becoming unruly and disrespected to the Geisha in Kyoto. The person was photographing the Geisha without asking permission and became annoyance and unruly to the Geisha. I suspect it might be the ugly American who I had witness many times when visited a foreign country. They just can’t seem to respect people and their culture, other than if they are from the United States. That’s why I try to learn as much as I can before I visit the host country. Tourists from China are also one of the worst, they are not very polite and are very disrespectful and pushy. I just push back and because I tall and wide body they leave me alone.🤭
I always take it upon myself to be a good ambassador for the United States. Treat people with kindness and respect and you will have an enjoyable trip.
When I used to be in the Navy and travel around the world, I try not to let anybody mistreating and become disrespectful towards the local people.
One thing being in the Navy had taught me well, and that is knowing how to swear at people when I get tick off.
If you can formulate three swear words in one sentence, you are considered a salty old fart.
I guess I am an salty old fart, that was what they used to call me, I’m a blast from the past. (just don’t leave me alone in a small room without an open windows.) 🤭
In the Navy, they use to yell out to me “Hey you!” because they always forget my name so I decided to adopted it and when I when I was making a name tag at a ship party, I wrote by name is “Hey You.” When asked, I say would say that is my Chinese name. (I would be laughing on the inside because they believe it. The joke is on them.)
There was a lot of racism in the Navy during the Vietnam era. I remember in one occasion at a ship party a couple walk up to me and ask: “What part of China you are from boy?” When he said “Boy” I knew he was a bigot with that southern accent. I asked myself do I want to have an altercation and disrupt the party? So I decided to use reverse psychology on him and with my strong imitation of a southern drawl and said. “Why, I’m from Southern China, what you folks are doing here in these neck of the woods?” It took him a while to figure it out.
It was hard to keep a straight face because it was killing me on the inside. Finally he got it and his wife said he got you and he stormed out of the room. As they were leaving I said “You all coming back again, you hear!” (Fun times in the Navy, I miss it.)
One thing I learned when I was in the Navy, don’t take things too seriously. Go with the flow. You will enjoy life better.
