the Sonic advance games definitely need a port/remaster, I've got a lot of nostalgic memories playing them and I would love to be able to play them on new hardware with wide screen and maybe even some new features like new abilities and new playable characters perhaps?. Also fantastic art on that thumbnail lookin super clean! 💯
The Japanese voice actor of the Movie Sonic, Taishi Nakagawa, played the Advance series a lot despite his little experience in gaming when he was a child. He says he almost rejected the offer due to the pressure from fans, but that childhood memory eventually led him to accept it, and, thanks to his stellar acting, the movie was perfected even without the legendary Junichi Kanemaru. So, as a Japanese fan, I'm really thankful that the Advance trilogy just exists.
I loved the sprites of the Sonic Advance trilogy. They had so much personality IMO. I also had fun memories playing the flash games with those sprites.

I know that on stream you were talking about how you were nervous about how this video would perform, but this was an absolutely joy to watch as someone who is a big fan of both you and long-form video game video essays/retrospectives. Personally, I've never played any of the three games as I had DSi growing up, but as someone who's been really getting back into Sonic recently (with you to thank lmaoooo), I'm definitely more inclined to go and check these out at some point! But yeah, the video was paced really well, very well written, and I would love to see more videos like this from you! Keep it up, man! 💜
I love the fact that you did this retrospective but there are a few things I have no choice but to disagree with. The music in sonic advance 1 is SO much better than was given credit for. Casino paradise has some of my favorite music in sonic history, it’s SO good. Then, the bosses in sonic advance 2 are SO COOL! Being able to constantly move chase after the boss is so fitting for sonic bosses, just look at day bosses in unleashed. Also you didn’t mention it, but sonic advance 2 has an air dash you can use to better catch up to the bosses which make them so much easier, even though I don’t think they’re that difficult even without the air dash. Finally, with sonic advance 3, the twinkle snow boss is AWFUL. Other than that, everything else I completely agree with 💯

I used ti have a guide book that had Advance but if you flipped the book over, it had SA2 Battle. Read that thing front and back, even though I didn’t get the games until a little later.

Maybe next time you do one of these it could be related to the GBA ports of the classic mario games, I know those are just ports but comparing and contrasting the differences between both versions could make for a good video

Sonic Advance trilogy definitely deserves to be remembered. I agree that the bottomless pits and the boss fights (especially in Sonic Advance 2) stink. I do know of a cheat code in Advance 1. Tails can be on your side if you press up, right, down, right, left trigger, right, right trigger, right, and the A button in the character selection. I can't wait to see more retrospectives from you.

The Sonic Advance trilogy is a series I wish I had access to growing up. I definitely could see myself playing these games nonstop once I get the hang of it during the 2D sprite era of Sonic. Sonic Advance trilogy SHOULD get ported to the Nintendo Switch after the GBA expansion, there's no excuse or a complete remastered collection as you mentioned. Love the way this video was constructed and it was awesome to hear the Sonic enthusiast himself talk about a series that deserves the remembrance and praise for what it was and without it, the Sonic Rush series would have never came to be. Only point of debate I'll bring up is that Sonic games CAN have a lot of platforming and have it be a good time. Advance 1 has a good amount and I don't mind it there but Advance 3, from its awkward midair controls to its disruptive level mechanics, don't make it very gratifying IMO. As someone who's 100ed the games multiple times, these games definitely deserve an enhanced port to make them a little more accessible. For the most part they hold up, but a even just a simple resolution increase would be huge.
I'm surprised youre not feeling the Toy Kingdom music as much. I think it sounds like a parade or a celebration with the horns and really bombastic melody. Either way though, banger vid
Sonic Advance 2 is probably the game I'd recommend for people to get into modern 2D Sonic, it's just so fast, expressive and satisfying to move around in! The boost mode feature feels super exhilarating and the level design lets it shine and flow really well. Goddamn those bosses are ass though. Advance 1 is really solid and a good intro to the series, but I also don't find it to be particularly inspirational and think 2 and 3 have much more to offer in terms of style. I want to replay Advance 3 soon to see how the level design really fared for myself, but I definitely loved the depth of the partner system and the fact that you can mix and match pairs between acts. The replayability and ability to optimize is really nice since a lot of Sonic games don't get to have this level of customization. Watching speedruns of the game, it's interesting seeing how heavily team combos are used to make massive jumps or get bursts of horizontal speed. I also found the Advance 3 soundtrack to be spectacular with the best music I've heard on the GBA, absolutely adore the likes of Ocean Base, Cyber Track, Chaos Angel and the boss music! Loved the video! Appreciate the content as always 🙌
The secret to Sonic Advance 2 bosses is to use the murder rabbit to obliterate them without even breaking a sweat. Sega, please. Playable Cream again sometime.
God. These games were deadass my introduction into the series. They do have flaws and they do have charm but I consider them a high part of my childhood.

Sonic Advance 2 is probably the game I'd recommend for people to get into modern 2D Sonic, it's just so fast, expressive and satisfying to move around in! The boost mode feature feels super exhilarating and the level design lets it shine and flow really well. Goddamn those bosses are ass though. Advance 1 is really solid and a good intro to the series, but I also don't find it to be particularly inspirational and think 2 and 3 have much more to offer in terms of style.
I want to replay Advance 3 soon to see how the level design really fared for myself, but I definitely loved the depth of the partner system and the fact that you can mix and match pairs between acts. The replayability and ability to optimize is really nice since a lot of Sonic games don't get to have this level of customization. Watching speedruns of the game, it's interesting seeing how heavily team combos are used to make massive jumps or get bursts of horizontal speed. I also found the Advance 3 soundtrack to be spectacular with the best music I've heard on the GBA, absolutely adore the likes of Ocean Base, Cyber Track, Chaos Angel and the boss music!

Fadel spittin sonic advanced 2 is easily the best and has the best music
I have Sonic Advance 3 modded on my wii with Super Sonic playable, definitely enjoyed Sonic Advance 1 and 3 after all they are great

God. These games were deadass my introduction into the series. They do have flaws and they do have charm but I consider them a high part of my childhood.
