The golden years of the Ottoman Empire come to life in a television series. The life of Suleiman the Magnificent is preparing to be a guest in your homes in all its glory. Get ready to experience the era with ambition, loves, wars and all the struggle.
Prince Solomon, with his closest man, Ibrahim Pargam Ibrahim receives the bad news in a hunt. His father Yavuz Sultan Selim Khan passed away. Prince Suleyman sets out for Istanbul without waiting. Prince Süleyman quickly reaches the capital. He attends the culus ceremony without waiting. His life changed in one day. He started his life as Sultan Süleyman.
Meanwhile, a galley loaded with slaves coming over the Black Sea is heading towards Istanbul. The hottest of the slaves is not yet aware that he is on a journey that will change his destiny. He is rebelling helplessly to return.
Sultan Süleyman wants to show what kind of sultan he is by the commands he gave on the first day of his sultanate. But not everyone will like these decisions. Sultan Süleyman does not hesitate to challenge all of Europe with the messages he sends.
Alex, despite all his rebellion, is brought to the Topkapi palace. His attitude attracted the attention of Valide Sultan from the first moment. But it won't be long before Alex learns the rules of the palace. He chooses a great target. Alex, Sultan Suleyman's first night on the way to attract his attention. Sultan Suleiman's wife Mahidevran just arrived from the palace of Manisa. He is looking forward to seeing his wife.
Ama Alex’in sarayın kurallarını öğrenmesi uzun sürmez. Kendisine büyük bir hedef seçer. Alex, Sultan Süleyman’ın karşısına çıktığı ilk gecede onun ilgisini çekmeyi başarır. Sultan Süleyman’ın eşi Mahidevran ise Manisa sarayından yeni gelmiş. Eşi ile görüşmeyi sabırsızlıkla beklemektedir.

What I find so interesting is the spin M puts on being free. She basically demands it, and gives no other reason for wanting it than because Hurrem was. Whereas Hurrem was smart, made it about charity, didn't ask or demand he did it but expressed her sorrow she can't help people because she's a slave and Sulieman freed her so she could. She didn't ask, demand, threaten, M used the wrong tactic.

Mahidevran’s face and reaction when Suleiman tells her he will send her away but she won’t take his Mustafa anywhere was absolutely priceless… She overstepped her boundaries! Let’s also take a moment to appreciate how Sultan Suleiman calmly gets up, walked over to her, and towers over her looking down at her (asserting his dominance) while he said it… Excellent acting he is awesome!

Historically speaking, Mahidevran wasn't that popular a concubine of Suleiman. She was only important because she gave birth to his oldest son, and that's it. She was never his favorite. Once Hurrem came into the picture, the real Suleiman didn't care for anyone else; this is why their relationship defied all the traditions of the Osman empire. He married her, she was allowed to have more than one son, she wasn't a slave, etc.. You Hurrem haters are hilarious, especially if you knew the actual history of Suleiman's reign, and how important Hurrem was to him.

Hürrem Sultana was stubborn but was provoked and backed into a corner. She was just a slave and had no way to defend herself. Mahidevran hatun was ungrateful and reached to far too quickly. Yes, maybe you're right, but the one and only more powerful, who became arrogant and made so much evil to people around him, is no one else except Syleiman, because he was the Sultan. The more power Syleiman and someone has, the less conscience and justice he has. That's the nature of the world. That's the way, when someone have so much power in his hands. Neither Mahidevran or Ibrahim or Mustafa, no one of them isn't that much powerful just like Syleiman. Even his own mother isn't so much powerful than himself. And that's the only explanation for killing all his own family and friends: he was blinded by a slave (here I have to say that Hurrem wasn't a free woman. The difference in Hurrem and Mahidevran is made pointedly clear here. When Hurrem wanted her freedom so she could marry Suleiman she skillfully set it into motion in a way that made it as Suleiman deciding it was right that it should be so. She wisely never outright asked or demanded it . She simply gave him a emotional push in that direction by lamenting how her slave status prevented her from helping his people through charity work and then stepped back to let him make the decision . Mahidevran on the other hand went in all half cocked with no real reason to be set free except that Hurrem was . Yes, she is the mother of his oldest son and presumed heir to the throne but so were other impending Valide Sultana's and they were not freed so there truly was no real justification for her sense of entitlement here . Hurrem's tactic worked because she knew her place and wisely worked within it so she didn't alienate Suleiman . Mahidevran was mistakenly already giving herself the airs of the Valide sultana and ironically for someone wanting their freedom forgetting the slave she actually is right then . She majorly overstepped her bounds and was highly disrespectful which of course would alienate him and naturally force him to snap her back into place.

I am not Muslim, but I want to clear everything up.
Both Hurrem and Mahidevran came to Suleiman as slaves. At their time, slavery was evident everywhere. They were bought from slave market as Cariye (slave women) in Suleiman's palace. Suleiman, as their rightful master, had right to slept with both of them without marrying them. But once Suleiman slept with them, there were some limitations :
    1. The Cariye that had slept with their master had to received different treatment from the Cariye that never slept with their master. They received better treatment, well fed, and better clothing, and sometimes salary.
    2. Once they were pregnant, they were unable to be sold in slave market, and they lived together with their master.
    3. The children that were born from the Cariye had equal right, status, and duty from the children that were born from the legal and wedded wife. They even inherited their father's wealth and property.
    4. It is prohibited for the master to sleep with the Cariye's mother, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, daughters, and nieces although all of them were also enslaved and owned by the same master. The male relatives of the master were also prohibited to sleep with the Cariye.
    5. Once the master died, all the Cariye that had children with the master become free women.
In these series and real history, the Sultan, as the rightful owner of Cariye, had also limitations too. He can only have one son for each Cariye, meanwhile if the firstborn of the Cariye were female, the Cariye can be called again to sleep with the Sultan until she bore him a son. But after one son was born, the Cariye normally won't be called again to sleep with the Sultan.
Sultan Suleiman followed this rule when he slept with Mahidevran and Mahidevran bore him Prince Mustafa.
But alas, there came Hurrem, who kept pregnant again and again with the Sultan and brought him 5 princes and a princess, and this violated the tradition. The violation of tradition continued when Suleiman freed her from slavery and even married her so she became fully legal and wedded wife. Thus her position were far above Mahidevran and all concubines and Cariye, although not above and as powerful as the Valide Sultan, the mother of the Sultan.

M: Just free me and I’ll take my prince and go.
    S: Is that a threat?
In those days it was common for princes to rebel against their fathers and if the Sultan died they had to literally fight their way to the throne and kill their brothers and probably either married off or killed their half-sisters who weren’t on their side.
Suleiman rightfully took this as a direct threat as Mustafa was later executed because Suleiman felt threatened. Every step of the way, Mahidevran made wrong decisions.

No it was really magnificent. Till date, it's the best 46 years of Turkish history. They were the biggest, wealthiest, most powerful empire in the world. They ruled half of the known world and the other half was paying them tributes not to be attacked. Only the timms production team knows the reason why they misrepresented the history of their country in such a horrible way. The truth in my opinion is more entertaining.

This was always mahi's downfall, she let her emotions and bitterness overrule her logic. She had tantrums and demanded things, where as hurrem was smart with her words. She didn't even request, let alone demand. Her being freed happened because she told him as a slave she couldn't do charity work and it upset her as she wanted to help. So he then decided to free hurrem for that reason so she could, the key words there... He decided, she didn't demand and stamp her feet.
