    In the early 1980's I had a nice opportunity to meet Tom Selleck and John Hillerman on the other side of the boathouse. They were filming Magnum PI "Foiled Again", and I saw T.C's Volkswagen bus, and the helicopter sitting along the side of the road a little ways from the "boathouse" so I stopped to watch the filming and it was nice that Tom Selleck and John Hillerman came over to say 🤗 hello

      Unfortunately John Hillerman passed away a few years back. I do not like the new Magnum PI, the old one was much better; and the same goes for Hawaii 50, the original was better.

      An elderly lady owned this home and property and could no longer care for it so she sold it to a Real estate friend of Barack Obama, and his name is Mr Nesbitt. The salt water destroys all of these homes that are seaside, and they need to be kept up yearly to be in good condition which I don't think it was, and that's probably why they initially tried to sell it for close to $20 million and Mr Nesbitt purchased it for only around $9 million, what a fantastic investment that was. So it wasn't worth repairing and bulldozed it down and rebuilt a new home. Sad but true

    I heard the buildings were in very bad shape even in the 1980's. The production company only went in and cleaned up the landscaping to use for exterior shots and all the indoor work was done on a sound stage. The sound stage interior was nothing like the real interior of the 401-505 Kalaniana'ole house. It was a wreck back then, probably why it was bulldozed. The value of the land alone is probably worth more than $9M today.

    • @faiolapat
      @faiolapat  Před 2 lety +1

      To my knowledge there were a few scenes that were filmed inside of the building but that's about it, very few.. it was occupied so it was livable after the original Magnum series ended.. but I'm sure termites had done a good job on the building.

    • @faiolapat
      @faiolapat  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Technically all beaches in Hawaii are open to the public and I doubt the secret service or police would legally be able to do anything about it. This Italian New Yorker would tell them what they could do because I know the law concerning beach access in Hawaii. I haven't been there quite a while but I think I'll go back just to test the waters. There is a Beach Park about a 2 minute walk away along the shoreline and that's how you access it. Who in the right mind would want to build such a nice home along the highway with all the noise coming from the trucks. I wouldn't call that very presidential.

    The "guest house" geography in the show never made much sense, ha. Not just it's physical location, but also in how it's designed. You climb up some exterior steps to a 2nd floor lanai, only to enter and then descend some interior stairs into the house? What's the point of that? How about a door at ground level? 😂

    • @jediknightjairinaiki560
      @jediknightjairinaiki560 Před 3 lety +3

      I know, right. Magnum's bedroom window was near the base of the stairs that led up to the front door. You're right about the location of the guest house (on the show) as it was nearer the house and not close to the beach, which made no sense.
