For those who do not understand chess, or are not really involved in the game, This is the best thing that could have happened from Gukesh's perspective : A neutral venue. He would have been under immense pressure had it been Chennai and Delhi well wouldn't have been much different. Also, The media here is relentless, would have been a night mare for him and his team to manage. Yes its a lost opportunity to promote chess in India but nonetheless better for the Indian Challenger.
Normally I would agree given Anand and Carlson have said they didn't want to play at home, but the case of Gukesh is different. He went 8/8 in Chennai Olympiad which again had a huge media presence and he also qualified for the candidates by winning the Chennai Open.

1. Olympiad is a team game here it’s a 1V1 pressure is immense.
2. Back then (2022) Gukesh was 2580, yes he was a very strong player but players took a chance against him which resulted in pleasant outcomes.
3. He will be facing ‘Ding Liren’ in a all or nothing face off. Yes he is a bit wobbly right now but at his best he was and still is a killer.
This is a real blessing for Gukesh....very happy with this decision. Just play ur best Gukesh 🎉
Nice coverage.. Special thanks for pronouncing 'Ding Liren' correctly!
Its good thing..pressure will be less to gukesh
