American Students' First Reaction to SB19

- First time listening to #SB19. Some of them are familiar with #Kpop but not #Ppop.

The primary purpose of this video was to showcase SB19 to non-seasoned reactors. I tried to get a sample of how American students would react to an SB19 song right after they listened to their song for the first time. The result is a raw, authentic, and honest opinion of how American students would respond. Since music transcends language boundaries, showing them a Tagalog song was a non-issue. If SB19 wants to break into the American music scene, they need to listen to reactions like this one, a no-strings-attached response from ordinary Americans who have not heard of them before.
After many years of being a kpop fan and witnessing a lot of groups either lip-syncing or relying heavily on loud backtracks, watching SB19's raw live vocals is such a breath of fresh air.
Filipino singers sings impromptu they don't autotune and they prefer to sing live than lipsync. For me as Filipino, lipsync is kinda awkward to do, because we're not used to.

Yeah, the remarkable group to me when it comes to live vocals and high calibre performances is iKON, they're self produced group as well. SB19 is the first male group in PH that sounds even better live for me.
Exactly! Cos let's be real, only few kpop idols can sing. Like sing SING. Esp in live performances, they all lipsynch. I'm a kpop fan since 2009 and that's a known FACT. Even KPOP group that are very popular now do lipsynch. They can't maintain good vocals in live.
SB19 bombed K pop lip syncing at the AAA, as well the amazing long singing and dancing performances.
Sb19 is a multitalented boygroup from Philippines..no lipsyc no autotune 🇵🇭💪😎
In a world full of KPOP, it takes a while to get used to other pop groups not Korean. But if and when you dig deeper, you'll discover treasures, like SB19, and then you'll ask yourself, "Where was I?"
That's what happened to me. 😭 Glad I know SB19 in their Pagsibol era. Sad that I missed their other ones. Looking forward to their Pagtatag. 💙💠☺️

Hahaha it's the opposite to me coz the first ever group that I started listening to is SB19 P-pop and then I saw SB19 covering some other groups which happen to be k-pop then I started listening to Korean music

Actually that's true cause at first I didn't actually like sb19 that much. But when I dig deeper and always listen to them, and showing their hidden talents I must say that I got addicted and addicted and I'm starting to like LOVE sb19 I'm a MAHALIMA(OT7) but actually bujah/Justine was my first bias. But I don't know every single day,time,sec, minutes, tsk HIHIHI napagpapalit palit na Ako Ng bias .
Kapag kasi as a Filipino na subrang mahal Yung kpop (OMYGODDDD MY HUBBYJK) para kasing hirap Ang hirap oumasok sa ppop songs kasi Yung standards or I don't know what's it called but yeah, but when you get to know them or when you always hear sb19 songs. You would really love them and be proud and regret that I didn't get to know them when actually I got addicted to kpop. But now HUHUHUUHUHU idk where to go out and I became a A'TIN emmediately when I don't care and I don't to go out actually.
SB19 is not just a singer,dancer,composer,choreographers,they are also a stand up comedian..they are very entaining

Unless these students truly understand the complexity of of music and dancing that’s the only way they will appreciate these without subtitles and to remind them that the dances are to keep in mind that they sing live despite dancing very well 🥰

So true very well said. If they will know &understand the lyrics of the song WHAT? coz it will be the basis of the choreography. I wish they would try SING LIVE & dance at the same time that would make them understand more easily how complex & exhausting that was.Thnks for sharing sb19 to them.
SB19 doesn't just create choreographies, they always incorporate the lyrics into it. They are really good dancers!
The WHAT dance practice is really good, I think it’s because of the angles that were shot. And it really feels different when you understand the lyrics because you’ll realize they did an interpretative dance actually. So as a Filipino who understands the lyrics, the dance moves of WHAT are really special to me, especially the parts “Ama, salamat at ikaw ang agimat” and “Di na magpapaawat, iwagayway ang watawat”. The steps are sooooo good it actually make me emotional even though it’s not a ballad. 😅😅
You should have shown them the What? MV instead, with subtitles. They might like the WYAT MV more because it’s in English. Also, show something like their Bazinga dance rehearsal to really show their dance skills. Musical tastes are very different here in the US. So if SB19 would delve more into genres like R&B, acoustic and indie, it would be a plus. And it would mean more to the students if they could understand what’s being sung. That’s why it’s important for SB19 to put out more songs in English, while still retaining their Filipino identity.

I love their live performances! Please don’t misunderstand. I saw them in New York. But this particular performance wasn’t the best thing to show them for a first time observation. Even if they were shown a live performance of What? at one of their tour concerts, it would’ve been better.
No, this is okay. SB19 is a Filipino band and their music and performances speak for them, regardless of the language barrier.
Having these students watch live performances was a good idea because their skills are more highlighted. The only disadvantage, of course, is that there are no subtitles. “What?” Is a difficult introductory song because it’s such a complex song. I’m glad they appreciated “Tilaluha”.

It's really nice of you to introduce SB19 to them. My advice for the next videos would be that you introduce them to the MVs because it has English translations, or find a live performance video with subtitles because let's face it, people who doesn't understand the language connects with the music more if they can understand it. WYAT is the best song to introduce SB19 to foreign casuals since it's fully in a language they understand. Good luck for your next videos.
Thank you for the reaction. There's so much to get from these guys. Very talented or should I say gifted. They can sing and perform any music genre. They're passionate on their craft. So much to offer to the world. So proud of them. Supporting them will never be a waste of time.
Thanks for showing this to them, hopefully you get them to watch their go up dance practice...best way to disprove their notion of their dancing skills. It takes a few more videos and interviews to get them change their mind 🙂. They for sure are exposed to kpop so I understand where their comparison would be

Edit: I think it's better for them to see WYAT and Bazinga cuz it's an English song. Maybe they're used to watching KPop so some didn't get it. I was surprised they liked Tilaluha( Like what the 1st girl said, It's unique you don't see something like that in KPop) . SB19 is an all around singer and performer. They're more like NSYNC, NKOTB & BSB 💙💠

So many talented singers all over the world and the Philippines is one of those known very talented singers in the world period ….SB19 opened a history of the world of their group for years now and getting more recognized by international countries . They have been touring all over the world and their concert is always sold out …. Also the Philippines second language is English. About half of their music is in English too … Am so so proud of their story and people just never really finds out what they went through before they got really famous.. I know this is a year ago so i hope that these group of kids have seen more of SB 19,or these group of kids reacting should have a sing and dance challenge with SB 19,kids, SB 19 are great live monster singers and great dancers,not sure if one of you can break a move..😅
Want to see these kids slowly changing their first impressions on them.. Because they'll be amazed how powerful these group is.. that you can no longer even compare it to other group.. These kids preference of "KPOP" is understandable because it is popular at the moment.. But the moment they'll watch more SB19 dance practices, Wishbus perf., and Live performances of singing & dancing.. "They'll can no longer compare it to other group..
