- Meredith Emerson and her black labrador, Ella, went for a routine hike on January 1, 2008. When Meredith didn't show up to work the next day, her friends and authorities searched the trails of "Blood Mountain" and were able to find some of her belongings, which led them to a killer with a secret history of victims.

Very tragic case… my heart goes out to Meredith & her family along with her dog Ella.. 💔 Savannah, you are truly amazing at story-telling. One of my fav to listen to 😍
Oh this case is heart wrenching. Her friends were awesome. This is such a sad case and honestly I catch myself doing things similar to Meredith you know? Leaving alone with my doggo, but I’ve heard this case covered by Mollie as well and now I let EVERYONE and their mom know where I’m going haha 😆. Also so glad the dog was fine.

I love right next to blood mountain. I would never walk it alone. Just driving through it is scary. I’ve heard this case and so glad you covered it. Definitely hits close to home

@@akshijay1775 I have day hiked , overnight & multiple day hiking Blood Mountain, Black Mtn, Gooch Gap & the backcountry from the Ranger Station at Vogel State Park and all over North Georgia & the AT since the 1980’s. Biggest scare...wild boar. Have been a “trail angel” picking up injured hikers & taking them to the ED, & given rides to many. MARTA & ATL are scarier & more unsafe!

What a monster! Tragic story told by you in an excellent and interesting manner. I hike with my dog almost everyday in remote locations. I always carry a knife and if I encounter anyone I am pleasant but always keep some distance and I am on guard. Good job Savanna.
As women, we need to STOP jogging, running, and hiking alone. So many of these cases start the same way.
Completely agree it’s sad that we can’t do that alone. But personally I like being with my family or friends when going outdoors I just feel safe/not lonely 😂
Nah this is not it. Instead of telling women how not to get r*pe or killed walking alone at night, how about we train our sons that women don’t owe them sh*t
@@TheWanderingNomad I wish it was that easy. However, it's not only nurture but nature that shapes one's life. I had an almost flawless childhood and I ended up being an awful person for almost a decade, so really it's just a crapshoot.

Truly heartbreaking and horrifying to think about. The last time I went hiking alone, a man approached me and said how easily he could overpower me. This makes me wonder if he would have, had it been a more isolated trail. I haven't felt safe going alone ever since. Meredith did everything right given the situation :(

Right she brought her dog, knew how to defend herself and did just that, and she tried prolonging her survival. It’s sad.

If only that woman he called hadn't given him a heads-up. Since this case was so tight in terms of timeline, and they were already on his trail, literally only hours behind him. I wonder if this person experiences any guilt or feels in any way partially culpable (aiding and abetting, or just mentally slow?)...

I'll always remember this case. I was working in a town very close to Blood Mountain when Meredith went missing. My husband was working for the Union County Sheriff's Office when Hilton was arrested. Being such a small, quiet town, it definitely left us on edge. For days after all of the information came out, and after Meredith was found, I could hardly fall asleep. I kept thinking about how Meredith was alive in the back of a van just a few miles from where I worked and lived while everyone was looking for her. Even scarier is that Hilton killed a North Carolina couple a few months before Meredith and had used their ATM card at a bank about 10 miles from my home. One small discrepancy in this video is that Dawson Forest, where Meredith was killed and her body disposed is actually in Dawson County, GA, not the city of Dawson which is located in south Georgia as the map in the video showed. Dawson County is also in the North Georgia mountains and approximately 40 miles south of where Meredith went missing on Blood Mountain. Also, they were not in Gainesville, which is in Hall County, but rather in Dawsonville, in Dawson County.

I do wonder if these killers have the urge to kill that they clearly give in to, feel guilty after or in between victims… but I feel they’d go turn themselves in either after doing so or before harming someone in the first place :( so perhaps they don’t feel guilty at all… it’s so sad

So the reason the movie he worked on sounded similar to the Alaska case is that they BOTH a very similar the the famous short story 'The Most Dangerous Game' by Richard Connell.

Can someone please help me understand something. So someone who killed another person in cold blood without remorse and for the dumbest reasons. How can someone like that ask the court to show them mercy by either removing the death penalty, letting them out of prison early because of Covid and that they are afraid to infection. Some even ask judges to send them to a more friendlier, more accommodating prison. For reasons I will never understand, why would a court or judge consider these request and sometimes granting them. This person never showed remorse or considered the life they took but when it comes to their punishment, they are afraid for their life and wants sympathy, when they never showed sympathy to the people they have killed. Why do the courts and judges do that? It’s an insult to the families of the victims

@savannahbrymer I love listening to your podcast but I’ve noticed a lot lately that when you speak about the facts in the cases you tend to mess up the names or say this person killed this person and it gets confusing while listening and trying to keep up or you may say the charges wrong or the the dates like I’m listening the the Kevin Davis one & you say he was charged in October of 2024 it’s only 22 but other than that girl i live listening to you.
