I saw Jukka's band at the South Bank in London during the late 70's. They never seemed to gig much in the UK which was a shame. Very underrated guitarist. I would put Jukka right up there with Allan Holdsworth, John McLaughlin etc...
@@kikiu2619 Holdsworth was never ‘hysterical’ his playing. Jukka and Coste are stunning players for sure, and I am a big fan, but they are not in the same league as Holdsworth and McLaughlin sorry.
I love Jukka's style - so original, not some carbon copy blues wash-up like so many other guitarists in the 70's, but I can only listen to him via youtube as his albums are so hard to find here in Canada. I wish more record stores recognized the greatness of him and his various groups. He was a monster of a guitarist! I hope these videos stay up until I can find his records!
You can find his records easily: They are all on vinyl. JTB (Just Those Boys), Jukka Tolonen Band, Oreo Moon, etc...Just need a record player. It's worth it.
1978. In that year I was 26 years and I really feel sorry that I missed out this great band. Al di Meola, Jeff Beck, Lee Ritenour, Alan Holdsworth, Steve Howe, Ian Crichton, were amongst my favorite musicians then. Glad that I found them today.
So nice to listen to these two great guitarists again. Coste sounds a lot like a young Al Di Meola, while Jukka seems a little more personal in both playing and sound. But they are both amazing players from our corner of the world!
Billy Carson here reminds me of young Billy cobham. He seems to be quite adept drummer. I would have liked to see him more behind the drums than moving to the rather silly Finnish TV acts.
Whoever wants to start a band like this with me, let me know :D I do love summery music like this, summery fusion I want to do some Mediterranean soul funk blues with prog and fusion,
@faningo276 Couldn't agree more about non American prog being both first and often superior. Imyself never liked Rush, too much vocals for me. Also too robotic and not enough feel (obviously this is subjective). I can see the resemblance to La Villa Strangiato, but I don't think it's an influence or intentional. Jukka and many others have been doing jamming like this since well before Hemispheres. I think people are just too into Niel Peart and wish to think prog rock drumming came from him.
i saw him later in his career an he look liked ok i i play the blues then...boring music he think...no i know he like´s it...play blues man you got youre´fans
@himtroy I think just the intro has that La Villa Strangiato-esque hi-hat bit, but shit the rest doesn't resemble Rush at all. I know what you mean with the limitation though, Rush had a few great progressive albums from 76-78 (progressive by North American standards). However; across the ocean years earlier is where the real prog rock was taking place. It's too bad Jukka is lesser known, he seems to be overlooked a lot by many. More young guitarists should take notes from Jukka.
There are many flaws in the music industry, but one of the most notorious is the fact that there is not a SINGLE filmed performance released as a physical copy from any Finnish prog-musicians/bands, certainly not in full. There is some footage of Wigwam, Tasavallan Presidentti, Tabula Rasa, Pohjola, Tolonen and others but they are nowhere to be found other than the internet, and there must be more to them than what has been released.
I believe this was filmed at "Urajärven kartano". And that particular place is here: "61.1359605686695, 25.78995530756042" goo.gl/maps/rbV32BhjADVJuu8f9
If you like Rush what on earth are you doing looking at this? This has no trademarks of Rush at all-Rush is a band that kids in junior high think are the epitome of good musicians. Then you grow up and hear real music like prog or fusion and realize Rush is barely average.I laugh when people tell me that Neil Peart is the best drummer ever-wow you haven't heard to many drummers then if you think he is the best.
Even if I chose to believe every word you just released into the electronic void, it's still merely an opinion. It's equally as valid as the opinions of the Jr. High kid's you mock. Maybe you should be more concerned about how arrogant and snobbish you're coming off rather than what 'Jr. High' kids view as musical talent. For goodness sake, be the adult in the room.
Jakexx01 Its a good thing I could care less about your opinions as much as you don't care about mine-so you want to start a childish argument over my comments go ahead I can take it-but really we are just wasting each others time with this type of nonsense. It was just an opinion and it must have upset you enough to take the time to lash out at my comments to make yourself feel better or above me so congrats on being superior to me and my comments you get a gold star for todays class Jake!!
Matt, saying derogatory thing about Rush and Neil Peart in general just makes you look stupid. Those guys are amazing musicians and everyone knows that, their musicianship is the defining character of the band. They've been together for 40 years and are still touring and playing as good as ever. That alone is a sign of a band with real chops. Nothing annoys me more than musical snobs who think they're smarter than everyone else for listening things like prog and fusion. Rush *is* prog by the way, so you contradicted yourself with your comment. Have you ever even listened Hemispheres? The songs on that album were quite experimental and complex for the time. I don't mean to offend you, but it's painfully obvious that you have no clue what you're talking about.
The 70's had so much good music it was impossible to keep up. Now we can find these hidden gems at our leisure. Thanks!
Jukka Tolonen Band, Tasavallan Presidentti and Wigwam were the masters of Finnish progressive music in 70's
Saw the JTB in a small club in Germany in the late 70s... GREAT !!!
I saw Jukka's band at the South Bank in London during the late 70's. They never seemed to gig much in the UK which was a shame. Very underrated guitarist. I would put Jukka right up there with Allan Holdsworth, John McLaughlin etc...
I would say better. Jukka is never 'hysterical' in his playing.
@@kikiu2619 Holdsworth was never ‘hysterical’ his playing. Jukka and Coste are stunning players for sure, and I am a big fan, but they are not in the same league as Holdsworth and McLaughlin sorry.
Just an amazing piece of music. Tolonen is too underrated, but luckily some people know this shit well. Thumbs up.
I love Jukka's style - so original, not some carbon copy blues wash-up like so many other guitarists in the 70's, but I can only listen to him via youtube as his albums are so hard to find here in Canada. Awesome! One of my all time favourite guitarists!!!
Jukka the Best
Pretty amazing groove as expected when Jukka and friends are in the "Lauteilla"
Great live performance. The album A Passenger To Maribo had a huge influence on me as a teenager.
THE GREAT JUKKA TOLONEN and his Jazz rock Band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good fun to see them. Jukka was somewhat of an idol when I was learning the guitar.

Great Fusion track, nice changes, groove, solos.

70'S movie soundtracks music.
Fusion in my brain.
Mellow. Loving it.

Jukka is a fucking genius...period

tais joskus harrastaa sitä kuvitteluakin ehkä jopa liiaksi asti
JTB. Jukka Tolonen, Coste Apetrea, Christer Eklund, Harri Merilahti, Bill Carson. Kyseinen biisi levyllä 1979 levytetty Cobenhagen Werner studio.
... Wahnsinn !
Mieti ku olis tollanen rento kesämeno.
@sakk3d It was different quality when I uploaded it 2 and a half years ago. Don´t know what the problem is but I don´t think it´s my fault.
Whoever wants to start a band like this with me, let me know :D I do love summery music like this, summery fusion I want to do some Mediterranean soul funk blues with prog and fusion,
I'd love to (I'm a bassplayer).. but I'm sure you're not in Italy 😣

Miten nii ei oo hyvä tolonen? On mun mielestä huippulaatua tolonen. Kitara itelle vaan harrastus.
:) mutta missä on Mikko Alatalo ?

this doesnt sound like rush AT ALL!
And it SHOULDN'T!
I think he discover a mosquito on his right hand!!, which affects his playing for a few seconds :) However all of the musicians are in fine form!
Extremamente BOM. :))
But who has this video ? I so want a copy and not a youtube one!

thanks for that, yes it seems crazy when all those bands you mention did some great recordings.
5:40
foda pracaralho
Mistä tää on?
Näyttäisi olevan Urajärven kartanomuseolta (Asikkala) Valhalla näköalapaikalta. Säkkijärven polkka itse kartanon edestä
This doesn't sound like Rush at all....Thats probably just whoever said thats only exposure to prog rock (Rush is very limited prog rock at that)
Bom vídeo oguutarrista do samas manas mana na guitarra
What lake is that? What a gorgeous gig!
My favorite Jukka (at 19!): czcams.com/video/i25RR2vCWIA/video.html
