Yo I Got So Excited When I Saw Digable Planets In The Thumbnail Because "I'm Cool Like That"😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
“We be to rap like key be to lock” Dang. Hip hop just hit different back then. We have a couple lyricists now like Cole and Krit but nothing like the 90s
This is poetry and jazz fusion not just hip hop
Respect .... Need to introduced her to Some More Digable Planets, Some Tribe Called Quest, Some De La Soul , Some Arrested Development & Some Pharcyde ....
Tennessee by Arrested Development!
People Under the Stairs, Jazzmattaz, Jazz Liberatorz, Globetroddas, Fugees, Outkast, Jurassic 5, Poor Righteous Teachers.... So much to explore still!
the "OTHER" musiQ.. coin phrased by the commercial heads.
Black Star - “Definition “
Saul Williams- “List of Demands”
Queen Latifah- “U N I T Y”
The list could get lonnnnnng
Tell em………
This song was ahead of its time!!
Nah. It was right on time. That’s what a lot of us were on back then.
yeah
@@agapereign exactly a song like that wouldn’t be made today
The Instrumental That Was Sampled In This Rap Song Is A Jazz Compositions From Blue Note Record Titled "Stretching" By Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers.
Man solid info right here thank you for that good looking out.
Good looks
Thank you so much! I’ve always wanted to know that!
@joshua thank you so much now to get it on vinyl to rock at the crib
Whats make this song even crazier lyrically is that each verse is rhymed from a different point of view. 1st verse is in 1st person point of view he uses the pronouns ( i, me, and etc) to start each bar, 2nd verse is in 2nd person point of view so she starts each bar with " you" and 3rd verse is 3rd person point of view so each bar starts the pronouns they, he, she etc.
Fun fact for the girl: yeah this record was huge at the time matter of fact it won a Grammy so u Kno it was huge
React to pharcyde passin me by
Pretty much anything by them
Watch out for “ Leeeeee”
With this song it’s the HORNS that do it for me🔥📯
Miss the 90s
Jazz samples were the best back in the 90s!
That moment when Ms. Mecca drops in and she stops thinking on it, it washes over her for a second and you can see it click. 💜
Yeah man! Digable Planets to this day still one of my all time favorites. Both albums were fire, from start to finish.
THE 90's!!!!!!!!! God i miss this era.
One of my favorite tracks from back in the day, that bass line was absolute FIRE. Thanks for being cool like dat, and reacting to this.
Did you catch the lyrics?
I love when he gave a shoutout to the 5% Nation. “Me I got crew kids, seven & a crescent.” Song was 🔥.
You are so right about the balance, it was not always about the party.
2:45 "of course you didnt" lmao
That whole album is a work of art.
One of my favorite song had me hooked since the movie freedom writers ...it's lit
90's hip-hop was definitely the most diverse era, so many different flows, beats, genres.
Edit: Dad is definitely "cool like that"
Music overall from the 80's was the most diverse of all time
Yes!!! Love the throwbacks. Hip Hop. Man miss these days. Stick with your Pops Girl he is showing you some good Jams. :)
I love this. The bond between father and daughter through great music. I'm here for this. Let's go, coach.
Man I love it when yall do these videos I miss this music so much wish it was still this way. The beat on the first one brought back so many memories
HAVE HER LISTEN TO THE “BLOWOUT COMB”.
Classic album. Literally not a bad record on it.
Ahhhh man I never click so fast my top 5 favorite group of all time
Dad, you and I are the same era. I just got done with one of your Tribe reactions. So great to see this in the mix. They are genius and always will be my 90's summer Brooklyn rooftop cookout vibe.
God bless yall both but react to Mobb Deep Shook Ones pls👏🏼Old school Hip-Hop will always be the best fa sho....
Daaaamn I had a long time without hearing this. I love your throwbacks
Wow I love this!!! This is a great father/ daughter connection!! Her reaction to our song really made me smile 😊 great job dad 💯🙌🏾
Tell that girl again daddy. I used to love chilling to them!
Dumb rappers leads to naive listeners
Remember when sold yer boy was the worst thing you ever heard to the point KRS-1 felt the need to give him the come to Jesus speech?
I bet his corny ass would run roughshod on these Mouth full of verbal diarrhea drooling MC’s**** of today. Let that marinate, where are we all going to be musically in 20 years?
God I hope this changes.
Love how it took your daughter like half of a verse to be like alright I’m diggin this, but when ladybug grabbed the mic(I would still take her out to a restaurant I can’t afford, she still looks good and I’ve never seen a woman pull off the short hair like she did, not even Halle “the Darker the” Berry)and started doing her thing, your daughter had to sit on her hands to keep herself from waving in the air like she just doesn’t care. You’ve taught her well, my daughter is 3 I’m trying to start her off early with lyrics that have power and emotion behind it and not just “sheeeeyyyiiiit I guess I could spend the next 10 minutes and probably write this alleged album out so my label will quit sweatin me, not like it matters though I’ll be gone just as fast as I showed up to this game trying to sell my chains and rims back.”
And for the record, you can pretty much spin the rebirth of slick wherever you are and people will be appreciative. Be it parties, lounging, the library, church, grandmas house, as long as you sit on the plastic, the people’s court, doesn’t matter.
I don’t know anybody that didn’t like that track regardless of what they listened to.
Legend:
*****in this case MC stands for Might be Contagious
And if you haven’t yet, arrested development would be a solid next step. Can’t go wrong with Tennessee or Mr Wendell
Yep
@@philipgrandin4940 exactly
You gotta show Rapper's Delight by the Sugarhill Gang.
The full version.
React to Group Home - Supa Star
or Showbiz & A.G. - Next Level
Dj Premier remix
Group Home! Gang Star, Masta Ace
I dunno why this band didn't do more... They transcended all genre's. We used to play them in indie clubs in the middle of an acid house set and you didn't even skip a beat. This white boy absolutely loved the digable planets
This song is FIRE
We blast this in the car on long road trips and now it’s just my travel jam 😂😂
This CLASSIC got a lot of nightclub spins.
React to One Love or It Ain’t Hard to Tell by Nas...
That song is timeless 💯
Actually, it was a Hip-Hop party joint in NY. They went alongside Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Tribe CQ & De La Soul.
Thank you Dad!!! This came out when I was 18; it won a Grammy in 1993. First time I ever saw this video (back when, you know, MTV and VH1 still actually played videos) I immediately had to go buy this album. This was so far ahead of its time- it sounds fresh in 2020.
"Why everything gotta be dancin' all the time"
*FACTS DAD, facts*
Respect brother! This is just too beautiful ❤️
First off bro love u and your daughter’s relationship and u were ON POINT with the hip hop knowledge bcuz we DID have balance in hip hop back in the day, we went always LIT!! Lol great video guys!
Bro really like how you drop the knowledge. That era was about lyrics. Still living NYC hip hop.👍🏽
I TOTALLY had this album. The WHOLE thing was fire!!!!
We used to just post up on the porch with the boom box and listen to this.
And also, this most definitely used to get played at parties.
Had? I still have mine 😃
MAN I'm with pop's on this! I'm a West Coast Kid, he's an Wast Coast kid, we could connect on music like this at a weekend BBQ and just shoot da shit. It was like that in the 90's. Hip Hop was so different then, I wish this younger generation could experience that.
Your dad has great taste in music. All his throwbacks be lit! 🙌🏾
I relocated from Germany in the early 90's to NYC (30 years ago now) and my Jamaican wife were doing the club scene in NYC, e.g. Nell's, Webster Hall, SoB's, you name it... the Jazz clubs in Harlem, etc.
Digable Planets' "Cool Like That" is to this day representing to me the coolest time of NYC in the 90's! I feel blessed to have been there, at that time!
"Rebirth of Slick" that's NYC in the 90's to me!
Adorable! Love this keep it up.
We had boom boxes and hung out on the street corner or somebody's house. This is the soundtrack of the 90s.
That beat makes me want to paint bad. Those horns man, love em. One of my favorites
Ikr
LOVE this song! They were so ahead of their time. This song won a Grammy and was nominated for a lot of other awards in 1993 when it came out- same year I graduated from high school.
They definitely were a product of their time.
They played this at the teen dance club back in the day..there is still a groove to dance to...pop n lock flow
Peace from Peru love this channel We was bumping that in Chicago Lady Bug a G.
The movie DOPE-2015 has the song on the Movie’s Soundtrack
I love y'alls videos so much💙
I made my friend watch the first season of The Get Down and he's slowly been on a roller coaster of discovering Hip Hop, creeping on it's way into the 90's. It might be a good way for anyone to learn where it originated from. Thanks to the events in the show kids nowadays can shit on pavement that was laid...I mean respect the foundation that was laid for Hip Hop.
Yooo I doubt y’all will see this or listen but the main rapper (or at least first verse) in this group is name Butterfly, and he has a modem group called Shabazz Palaces, they’re album Black Up from 2011 is one of the most unique albums I’ve heard in hip hop ever I’ve listened to it countless times
You should do:
Nas - 2nd Childhood
A Tribe Called Quest - The Chase, Part II
That’s it dad. Educate gen z. My heart dropped when I said ATCQ is my favorite hip hop group and my friend said who’s ACTQ.
One of My Alltime Favorite Hip Hop Groups Jazz n Rap it gets No Better.

Digable Planets one of my all time favs.

Oh hell yeah, back when I was snowboarding semi pro this was my song. I'ld slide through fit right into the groove forget about the competition, and come out on top.
Digable planets is my favorite hip hop group
Teach these youngstas. I keep telling them about our era. I was born 5-11-1971. Our era was sick !!!! Mad Crazy !!!!!
I was in college when this album dropped. It was in continuous rotation.
Yep dad is right we had music for all moods, and times.
I was just listenin 2 this in skool yesterday😂😂😂😂
The brass comes in so well in this song. Gotta love that boom bap with real instrumentals
Bruh, we definitely played this song at parties!!

HELL yeah REAL lyrical goodness - I’m chill like that !!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🇦🇺🇦🇺
Back in the 90's, they used to have Poetry Slams where people would gather and recite and rap classy poetry... listening to Disable Planets made me remember that....
I was there back then too man.... I'm cool like that....
one of my favorite beats...
Bruhhh one of the favorite songs. So damn smooth
This was an instant classic and there 1st two albums are just incredible and have never left rotation in my Playlists.
There was digable, Busta, onyx, the Roots.. all different flavors. Remeber that blue Roots album My Mellow my Man..
This is the best song to come out of 1991 and still holds up today. Me and my man used to jam to this, now our kids are grown. And daughter goes to SF and Oakland to see these guys live. Remember A Tribe Called Quest, “Check The Rhime”?
great reacts to digable planets - rebirth of slick of cool like that !!!

One of my greatest songs then was Tennessee by arrested development. One of the greatest groups ever in the 90's
Absolutely one of my favorite 90s hip hop groups...
Blowout Comb is still phenomenal
Classic vibe hip hop such a classic!
You're bringing me back memories. That's when Hip-Hop was Hip-Hop.
Great song classic album!
That brought back some good memories! Excellent choice Pop's,💯🔥🙏❗#❤YaFam!!!!!
All true. I agree with everything Dad is saying. You need all the flavors in hiphop. The 90s got that down hard.
You actually could dance to it though. I know i did. Was lit back in college.
FIRST CONCERT I WENT AND SADE!
Amo essa música. Tem um brasileiro no grupo. Isso é incrível. Tem brasileiro em todo lugar do planeta rsrsrs
