- When I first started building an art business online I thought I would have to have lots of video meetings and sales calls (which as an introvert, I dreaded), but I was so wrong!
There are so many opportunities online for artists to make money, and I've been able to build my art business in a way that works for me and that is sustainable for my personality ❤ In this video I share my thoughts and tips because I know lots of you are introverted too!

When I was studying, i used to read and enjoy doing crafts or drawing at home. When I had my 1st job, I became an outdoor person, we love beaches and resorts, dance clubs, and music bars. But currently or more a decade now,im back to being a homebody. I am back to drawing, a little painting, and learnong new skills...I did enjoy the lockdowns but i miss a bit of the outdoor fun and gimmicks.
This is just my opinion, I guess... theres no such introverts or extroverts... it depends on envi, current circle of friends, one's mood, one's passion, one's delight, etc, etc.

Such a qualitative video as always. I'm also an introvert but I'm having so much fun on my Instagram and CZcams channel. Exactly because I can do it when i have the energy to and i can take my time to answer people on comments.

Like yourself, I am an introverted artist from Tas and seeing someone else with similar goals actually get out there and make it work is really encouraging. So thank you so much for making this video! It has motivated me to actually get started on my first artist vlog, by using words on screen as Iv'e been held back by the idea of putting myself in front of the camera.
I'm an introvert, always been. People is always telling me to join them in parties and stuff because "I need it". No, I don't need it, I enjoy hanging out with friends but not all the time. As for my art skills, I believe I'm better than average but I don't feel like I'll be meeting people expectations if they ask for commissions :'( I study graphic design but I have come to realize that it is not my passion... I want to be a digital artist 🥺
This is such a wonderful video! I feel like us introverts are always being told to be more extroverted instead of being able to live a lifestyle we enjoy. Thank you for sharing your experience. It shows that you don't need to be an extrovert to be a successful artist :))
Absolutely! It sometimes feels like you have to be loud and energetic to be heard online but that's actually a really big space for calm, quiet people as well 😊
I really enjoyed this video, Mimi! So refreshing to hear “choose a path that works for you” because there seems to be an inundation of advice nowadays that, if we want to grow our businesses, then we have to take advantage of everything and do it all… seemingly all at once. So much so that guilt sets in when we’re not posting on all manner of social media and jumping on board every new trend (I’m totally speaking about myself here 🤣). Again, thanks for sharing and btw… great voiceover 😉
Totally agree with you Sara! I often feel a pressure to be on every platform and maximise everything but I find it more powerful (and sustainable) to choose just a few things and give them all of my attention!

I love this video so much! It's so important for others to hear that you can be successful without having to become a public figure. I'm also introverted and have been freelancing for over a decade now. I operate my entire business from home, through email, and have worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry this way. Thanks for always sharing such valuable and inspiring content!

Yep, another introvert! I've gotten past my fear of talking to people (still getting used to camera, bit awkward) but my energy drains a lot then and I prefer to be in my own safe space. Thanks for sharing, it's definitely something we introverts need to hear; that it's possible to be successful without necessarily being front and centre.

I’m really glad you posted a video on this topic! One of the things that keeps me away from pursuing a more public career as an artist is the fear of energy drain and balancing my introversion with what is expected. Thank you for sharing how you’ve balanced this!! It helps just to know that someone else is doing these things too. :)
It's definitely possible! There are lots of options these days for artists and you can definitely pick a path that is less public facing or less social 😊

Wow. This was great. You showed up in my feed and I'm so glad. I'm a shy introvert and want to start my channel back up but I didn't want to be on screen or anything and this video gave me the desire to push on. Thanks so much.
I am definitely introverted and as an artist that wants to grow a following and customer base I have found it difficult sometimes but I am capable of being social and on camera when I have enough time to prepare and then enough time to recuperate afterward. 😂 I used to teach in-person paint night events and I would need like 3 days after each class to recover from using every bit of my energy to socialize like that. Now I teach on Skillshare and I have had to get out of my comfort zone to make those intro videos with my face in them as well... haha but it definitely gets easier with time and practice.... AND knowing your boundaries is important!
Yes absolutely boundaries are important! I also find it easier when I have time to prepare and then recover. I want to make a video course this year where I speak to camera and know I will need practise for it, but also just lots of preparation time 😅💕
I appreciate this so much. I am introverted, but only camera shy sometimes. It is nice to have lots of options for not having to be in front of the camera or live. I was doing live art classes and I would feel worn out afterward, even though I enjoyed them.

I am so both!!! I definitely recharge by being alone (which can be challenging with 4 kids) but I also enjoy being on camera, but my channel is mostly voice over as that's so much easier to handle as a mom. I paint best when alone with headphones on and some awesome music blasting, totally in my own little world. I'm grateful I found your channel, it's very inspiring as I'm in the very beginning phase of creating a business from my art.

This really put me at my ease, as someone who's working on building my own platform to eventually start my own little business this really helped me.
This is fantastic advice, thank you. I've struggled with a lot of this, and I was getting the impression there was no other way to gain traction without having to do all the trends, show face, etc etc. Such a breath of fresh air knowing it can be done another way!

I have been an illustrator for children's publishing for the past 20 years and when covid/closures hit, I decided to use the time to explore my hobby of crocheting /knitting and my channel was born. Like you, I wanted to share and express myself but had to find a way to do it that felt comfortable but not where I'm on camera constantly. It IS possible and I love your approach so much!! I love it! I'm new to digital art and CZcams content creation. I'm also on the introvert side, though also got things going on that make it not feasible to be all that involved with showing my face or talking on my CZcams channels. So I've been trying to figure out what works best for me and seeing this video is encouraging. ♥️

Lovely video! Thanks for sharing your journey. It gives me hope that I'm going to make it too. I am more of an introvert, recharging in solitude. I've worked towards getting used to talking in front of the camera. There are often days when I just can't do it though. Maybe I'll start doing a voice over video those days.

Mimi!!! Thanks for this video. Its almost like you've spoken my mind. Needless to say, I'm an introvert and i did feel bad for not being open and out there enough. However, few months back, i had to talk myself through that it's okay to just do it your own way. Just because the majority and general audience expects the extroverted way, it's fine to be rooted to who you are and perform socially in a totally lowkey and unique manner! Your talk was just the icing on the cake i needed that finally someone thinks the same way i do!!

Thanks for this video. Such an issue for so many. We gave up the day job in 2015, and have been freelance artists ever since. Finding that balance between public and private is a huge issue. Just subcribed to your channel.
That's a great and encouraging video 🥰 I'm an introvert, too. Personally I think it does impact my art journey. Often I just don't do things cause I'm too afraid and they stress me out. At the moment instagram is definitly my "little safe space"😊I love that all I have to do is just posting pictures of my art. That is in my comfort zone, but even then I think twice bevor I post something. I really want to do youtube as well but it is often just overwalming because you need a wide skillset and at the beginning it is hard to be good at everything at once. I live in a rather small country so I think not a lot of people do speek my language, but speeking english makes me a bit nervous. I don't want to say somthing wrong. So for now I mainly use instagram and every now and then I push myself to try youtube. Thanks for always posting encouraging videos in your lovely calm way🥰

Thanks for this video. I’ve always just labeled myself as ‘reserved’ not wanting to admit to being an introvert. I am a writer who dabbles in art. As a writer I have, over the years, had to face interactions that I call ‘jumping into a cold swimming pool’, ie; readings, signings, conventions etc. I love people but I always make certain that I have space to go away and recharge between interactions. Seeing you talk about it and how to work with it was very reassuring. Thanks.

I'm an ambivert. I can be in crowds, or talk to people (talk alot sometimes lol As long as I am not the complete centre of attention like speaking in front of a class), but there are times when nope, I just want to be alone to read a book or just sketch by myself in a corner. It hasnt effected my art journey since what you see is what you get with me and my art.

I am very introverted. But I work at jobs where I have to be an extrovert but time I get home I’m ready to take a nap and not talk to almost anybody or take a week break. You were doing exactly what I want to do and I am slowly making my way there your videos are giving me hope and ideas that I can do the same thank you

Great video! I’m such an shy person that sometimes even talking to people through text can be awkward or scary lol. One of my biggest fears with the idea of starting a Patreon (in the very distant future) is talking to people in a more intimate space. I can definitely relate to pushing yourself out of your comfort zone very slowly. I started out with just text in my videos and worked my way up to voiceovers slowly. I am not good at speaking to a microphone, even with an outline of what I want to say, and editing my voiceovers are a pain, but I’ve gotten less uncomfortable with it lol. I have been considering trying out vlogging type of content and want to try showing my face here and there 😁
That's a really valid fear, Amanda! But like you said if you push yourself out of your comfort zone slowly you'll become more comfortable, and one day you'll look around and see how far you've come. I'm watching your recent 'draw with me' video and I would have had no idea that you struggle with speaking to a microphone (also your characters are soo good!) 🥰 Definitely keep it, you're doing great 💕

This is so encouraging and helpful! I am an introvert with social anxiety and thought I never could do what I do now - selling at one of the busiest public markets in the U.S. every week. I think introverts have this idea that we can't do things that extroverts do. But we can! It may just take different strategies. Like taking baby steps, lots of practice and scheduling in lots of rest and alone time aftewards. CZcams is definitely on my list of things to tackle in the future. Question: does your boyfriend set up all your shots and film you or do you it all yourself? If you didn't have him, would you have learned video editing yourself or hired someone? Your videos always look great! You guys make a great team! ♥

I would say Im both, but mostly introverted, depends on the day. Its hard to balance sometimes, since people think Im ignoring them when I need alone time. I really appreciate this video, thanks for sharing! ❤️
