  • / @nickfoleyuk Just how good is the Electro Rhodes sound? Could it outwit the classic?
    Lets fine out!

    Spot on!
    Great presentation. I use to cart a Fender Rhodes in a VW beetle with a fender dual showman and a Hohner Clavinet. Good riddance those days are long gone. Happy gigging. 🎹

    Interesting comparison, thanks! It would be very interesting which sample (or default sound) you have used in the Electro (and of course, by editing EQ settings the tone can be changed dramatically). Clavia recently published a completely new Mk1 sample called "Stockholm EP" that sounds amazingly realistic and has a lot of character. I've loaded it in my Nord Piano 5 and compared it to your Rhodes - that is much more closer to the original. Keep on rocking!

      I've owned a MK2 Rhodes in the past and always regretted selling when everything went digital. I've owned a couple of Electro boards and the EP never got close until the Stockholm EP. Nord did a great job with that one. I loaded the largest sample at the sacrifice of a few other pianos. Well worth it.

    The Rhodes is a lot mellower and sounds amazing. I think a bit of EQ in the effects section of the Nord to take away some of the bright high end may have got them closer in sound. I have just ordered a Nord Electro 6D to play in my band. I'm a guitarist to be honest but my father was a great piano player and church organist, and in his memory I want to improve my keyboard skills so hopefully this will spur me on. I love your bluesy organ slides and chord progressions. Thanks.

    Gig with the Nord, record with the Rhodes[.]

    The Rhodes was a bit darker and fuller, something that could probably be addressed by fiddling with the EQ on the Nord.

    Hi Nick Thanks for the video. Question can I put organ on midi 1 and the sample synth on midi 2 to use in my Daw?

      I’m not sure mate. In principle yes but the board has gone back to @fairdealmusic in Birmingham. They will sort you out, as for Paul

    Hi Nick, sound pretty near to original, another option could be to test the Yamaha Reface CP, even though had small keys ,is midi able so, has also more option and is cheaper in price

      I have a reface just next to my computer keyboard. 🙂 when I play for a wedding or akin, and getting ready to play something by memory that I’m not familiar with, I take the reface in the car so I can review beforehand.

    Thank you, great comparison. I am curious if you can recall, are these both going out to the same amp in this comparison?

    • @nickfoleyuk
      @nickfoleyuk  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yes they are both going directly into Pro Tools. They are both clean apart from the @lounsberrypedals Whirly Grinder and a little pro tool reverb on the Rhodes Channel. the Nord is Clean - straight in.
      Thanks for watching, plenty more stuff like this on my channel please do check it out!

      @@nickfoleyuk thank you for the lightning fast reply! It’s amazing how much character the MK2 has just going straight in. Sounds lovely. I can also see the benefit of the clarity and balance of the Nord sound especially for live. Thanks also for the intro to the Wurly Grinder.

      No problem at all mate. Those pedals all start with a lovely pre amp tone and boost and then build in different ways I find

    One more... The Nord sound a bit thinner, if that makes any sense?

    As the saying goes.....Aint Nothing Like The Real Thing!!!....but since the Electro comes close, gig with it......its much lighter & portable than to lug around A Mk2 Fender Rhodes to live gigs.

    The Nord was definately brighter, not quite as Mellow as the real boy and at times it almost sounded more like a Wurlitzer.🎹
    They both sounded great but would a purist want the Nord on stage? Would a practical person want the Rhodes?🤔
    I know what I want ....

    I think that Nord sounds thinner than Rhodes, especially when you hit with great velocity lower keys on 3:33. At that point, Nord lower keys sounds thinner and more distorted and noisy (my perception).

  • @georgecarlin5047
    @georgecarlin5047 Před 10 měsíci +1

    My 2 cents... Nord and Rhodes about the same in the bass, but on the high end the Rhodes has a slightly deeper, more complex tone.

  • @ldifalco2010
    @ldifalco2010 Před 4 měsíci

    The problem with this comparison is that no two Rhodes sound the same. Voicing changed often in the factory and of course many Rhodes owners changed the voicing themselves. So you might find a Rhodes somewhere that is a spot on clone to one of the many Nord samples but finding a Rhodes/Nord pair that sound the same is pretty unlikely.

  • @jazzplayer59
    @jazzplayer59 Před 10 měsíci

    Another great comparison...just my opinion too much drive for my taste...one thing for sure the nord would be easier to play than a Rhodes (had a 1972 73).

    Норд уступает , по звучанию......не слышно разных вибраций оригинала.
