They are way heavier than regular cars..and weight is the enemy of MPG. All that luxury and safety is very heavy..but it's also what protects you in crashes.
That's what I'm saying too! If the S Class is rated by MB at 58 mpg..yet it only gets 29.4 mpg in actual driving..not only is that 58 mpg a blatant lie but why in the hell would you want it over the regular engine?! Makes no sense at all..lol.
@@robertcurry6413 I wasn't talking about the engine. Engines rarely have issues unless neglected. I was talking about all the other stuff they put into these cars. My mechanic fixes all types of European cars and he told me this himself about BMW. He said they are full of plastic pieces that breakdown and their electronics are very unreliable. I have friends who drive BMW's and they say the same thing. BMW used to make amazing vehicles..but when they went cheap using plastic parts it ruined their reputation for reliability. Again..not talking about the engine..and I take no pleasure in saying this about BMW because I used to buy them all the time in the 80's & 90's.
yes, the sky is falling and global climate change/"warming" but can't say warming anymore because that's not PC these cars are being forced on us...the market is not demanding them...wake up...blind follower of the establishment!
If the market wasnt demanding them, they wouldnt sell in the amounts they do. And if a measly $7500 incentive is what you call "forced" I dont know what to tell you.
Alan Bowers...the wind turbines 25 miles away from me were not market driven but they were forced by government policy...and if you think national mpg quotas are not driving these cars you're bigger idiot then I think you are! maybe you should read Thomas Sowell and get smart on government intervention in the free market!!
How were the turbines forced? MPG CAFE standards are increasing, but it still doesnt stop people from buying these hybrids over the standard car. They still sell despite that.
Alan Bowers what planet do live on? You have not read or investigated the closing of coal fire electric plants? Like I said, you need a lesson on what subsidies do to the free market...Milton Friedman, Tom Sowell...that is what these cars represent...obviously the MB are on the top tier of this market intervention...your average American cant buy the 95,000 550e...but these manufacturers are bringing these cars to market not because of overwhelming demand...it is ideologically driven more than profitability!
Benz is king of being classy.
Judy
German car model acronyms aren't confusing at all......
All that for under 30mpg. It defies explanation.

Wait so my ‘14 E350 gets the same gas mileage as the ‘17 C350E? I average 28 mpg, thank you!

When the high-dollar flagship sedan and the entry-level sedan look almost exactly the same.
Vladimir Lenin thats a Mercedes thing thats been going on for DECADES
yay, more things to break.
Luxury companies seem to have lost their prestige imo
BMW 740le is more efficient & 500 lbs lighter.
It's also full of plastic pieces that break down..isn't as luxurious on the interior..and is a nightmare to repair.
Nightbird not true. Inline 4 engine one of the most reliable

i will never buy a plug-in vehicle! you could give me the 550e and i would trade it off...
