I learned more here in a few weeks on Mac OS than I knew about Windows, which I was using since forever. Again another great tip, because I was that guy printing, and scanning documents to sign. Those days are over now 😉. Really like your channel, keep it going! Thanks for all the great tips so far!!!
I'm truck driver. Printer / scanner was acting up; so I smashed it! This allowed me to sign a contract without the printer / scanner. Saved me from having to find a place to park 18 wheeler by Best Buy etc; to buy new printer! Very happy.
I had no idea that Mac had these signature features! I never needed to do this on a PDF before, but a quick search on your website, Gary, revealed this oh-so-useful feature! Thanks for all you do for us Mac users!
Gary - just a quick note to thank you for this very useful tutorial. Also, I just want to mention how much I appreciate the thoroughness of your explanations - you go to the trouble of telling us that if our screen doesn’t look like yours, what steps we need to take to conform them in order to proceed - the sign of a very logical mind!
More excellent information about capabilities of MACOS that I were unfamiliar to me. Demonstrates once again how few capabilities of the applications I use regularly I use.
Great, great, great information and so clearly presented. Thank you so much, Gary, for doing this. I can’t count the number of times I wished I could do this but I didn’t know how.
Gary, use this all the time. Learned on some sensitive documents I should be re-exporting to a PDF so they can't be changed - thank you. Also, on one set of documents, I change the color of my signature as a means of authentication. You may want to show how that is done in one of your videos. (Can be done to current signatures.)
Im so glad you made this video. I learned this on my own by playing with the program, but this is so useful. Preview isn't as powerful as Adobe, but you don't need all of that power if you are just signing documents. Thank you for this. No more printing just to sign.
I had a document to sign 2 weeks ago and ended up using my iPad and Apple Pencil as I thought that was the only way to do it. Now I know better. Great tips as always.
Great tips Garry, One point of note, it looks like it permanently overwrites the original with no undo function once you insert signature. So one needs to be careful to save a copy first.
Thank you so much for this absolutely brilliant explanation of options. I know how to annotate pdfs, but didn't know all these options. I bookmarked your video. I can send this to instruct someone if I need their signature and they don't know how. This ends a time consuming barrier and helps others have an easier time with their future online signature needs.
I applaud you and your work. Good job!!! Thank you for educating me. I have wanted this capability longer than I care to acknowledge. Can I do the equivalent on my iPad?
I think you have been born with AI. Yesterday I wrote with problems of getting my Italian tax code into a form, and the appropriate video comes up then next day!
Great tip but one thing to consider is that some institutions don’t accept digitally sign documents, example of this is the DMV, I got a car registration rejected because of the signature and a friend of mine had the same situation applying to rent an apartment, we have to print the documents signed with regular pen and submit it again. The rest of the application was fine to do it digitally.
This is so helpful. Thank you! I have a 2013 Macbook Pro with Mac OS Sierra. The trackpad option does not show up. Is that feature only available for later versions of OS?
Using an iMac on the Create Signature popup in Preview I have three options: Trackpad, Camera, and iPhone. How do you change the iPhone option to iPad so I can use an Apple Pencil?
I download bank statements on my mac or ipad pro. I then need to annotate and send them to my bookkeeper for my business. How can I do this? With preview? Right now I print, photograph them transfer to my macbook, switch them to .pdf then upload them on my bookkeeper’s site.. this workaround is a hassle and time consuming. Can you help? Thanks in advance
I would use the built-in signature function instead. It makes it so easy. But if you really want to there is nothing to stop you from copy-pasting it into a PDF while parking it up.
I need some help. At my workplace every worker has a pin code to access the printer to either copy or print. Is it possible to place the pin on my mac, skipping using the pin every time on the printer? I really hope you will be able to help me. Thanks.
Great tips...thank you. While on the subject of PDFs...is there anything in the MAC world that allows me to create an 'enterable PDF'? I need to make up a form that will turn into a contract once the client(or myself) fills in the needed information. I have one already that I made maybe ten years back with Adobe's Acrobat Pro with a friend's application but that option is not available. So...is there a way? Thanks for any direction you may have.
Acrobat Pro would be the tool to use, yes. Not sure if there are any others that will do everything you need. You'd need to ask a PDF expert about that.
Good information, Gary. When you signed the form within the email and sent it back, did they receive it in an un-editable format? I always pull those out of the email, sign, export to pdf, then send back. Then I’m always left with the extra files because I forget to trash them. 🥺. In email would be so much simpler as long as it’s secure. Thanks for the tip. Have a great week.
The signature can't be edited, but annotations can. Exporting as a new PDF is one way. But if you don't trust the person at the other end, know that they can pretty much do anything -- create a new PDF with elements of your old one. But the same is true if you sign piece of paper too.

Most videos addressing this issue tell you to download Adobe PDF signer. Thanks to you, I did not have to do that. You are the best.

I use this PREVIEW SIGNATURE feature all the time.
You can also change the COLOUR of the signature in markup tools. :)
This video goes right into my Saved folder . I can't wait to try this! Yet another great bit of information!!
Used this a few times appreciate the video thanks! 🤙🏻
I had a document to sign 2 weeks ago and ended up using my iPad and Apple Pencil as I thought that was the only way to do it. Now I know better. Great tips as always.
I wish I had known this several years ago. Excellent explanation!

Incredibly helpful! I had used text markup on PDF invoices etc, but never thought I could sign and send documents as well
Thank you, very helpful.

so dope!!! thank you!
Excellent video. Thanks a lot Gary.
Nice but you didn't talk about the signature features in adobe's reader. Can you also markup in safari or only in the preview?
Very informative. I already saved my signature. Thanks!
This is gonna make things a lot easier. Cheers mate.
You’ve been releasing awesome videos man. Thank you!

This is great! Markup. Glad you tought me

I have a 2013 Macbook Pro with Mac OS Sierra. The trackpad option does not show up. Is that feature only available for later versions of OS?
I think so. With Sierra you are several years behind.
Tanks... very very good
Awesome video!!
Thanks man.
Fantastic! Thx✌🏾
THANX! MY IPAD doesnot appear, can you zoom in trhis pease?
Is it possible to change the color of the signature?
I don’t want it black, I would like it to be blue
Thank you! I FOLLOW YOUR INSTRUCTIONS TO A T! SUBSCRIBING NOW!
How do you "Move the Signature" or Initials, to additional pages. (example): an 8 page PDF ? I'd appreciate any input on this topic.
You can copy and paste. But I would just delete it if it is on a page where it isn't needed, then add a new signature on the page where it is needed.
@@macmost Appreciate your reply: I was having trouble: Moving the Signature/Initials ( down ) to pages: 2, 3, 4 and so on ? My Imac would not allow?
@@michael_caz_nyc Just add it to the pages where you want it. If you accidentally add it to a page where you don't want one, delete it.
@@macmost Thanks so much Gary - I will try it later tonight. Really nice of you sir. Enjoyed your detailed & informative lesson. oNe LoVe from NYC
Using an iMac on the Create Signature popup in Preview I have three options: Trackpad, Camera, and iPhone. How do you change the iPhone option to iPad so I can use an Apple Pencil?
The iPad should appear there if it is connected (Continuity on, same Apple ID, same Wi-Fi, up-to-date iPadOS version). Try restarting the iPad too.

Hi, is there an option to add signature in color to resemble a blue ball point pen ?
Yes. With the signature selected, go to the Line Color tool at the top and select a different color.
I have a PNG file of my signature that I’ve always used in Acrobat in Windows. Does Preview allow the use of a PNG file for the signature?
I would use the built-in signature function instead. It makes it so easy. But if you really want to there is nothing to stop you from copy-pasting it into a PDF while parking it up.

Not sure. I've never seen that and don't know how it works.
