What? You mean I can actually build an antenna myself? Amazing! Nice job, Bret!

Nice design! I love the bamboo. I am very interested to see the upcoming video where you put this antenna to use. I agree on buying the Pomona adapter. The knock offs are pretty bad. Definitely one of those things where you get what you pay for.

That is really cool! Wonder how well it would work on 17 meters? Looking forward to the follow up. Thanks, always something interesting from Survival Comms.

Thank you - It will work great on 17 if you have the space. Getting a vertical off of the ground with two or three radials even 8 feet or so exhibits a tremendous increase in efficiency over a ground mounted one. Thanks for watching !

Does it outperform a roll up J-pole ?

    • @survivalcomms

That is an excellent question. I've studied this a lot with VHF roll up J-poles (RJP) vs ground planes and the (RJP) holds a slight performance advantage in my testing. The (RJP) has a narrower bandwidth and may or may not require a choke. This video was about a field expedient antenna from easy to source materials. Cobbling together a (RJP) with a leatherman tool - and I have done it on video 8 years ago : czcams.com/video/ShRwnnejoO8/video.html is more time and resource intensive, still needed a soldering iron, and I have not seen window line anywhere in the wild besides in ham radio circles . I do like the idea of a head to head match up of the two designs however - stay tuned.

@@survivalcommscomparing the two would be awesome!
