This song has done so much for me. It impressed my boyfriend when I first met him, helped with social anxiety starting college, and been right there with me in some dark times. It’s wonderful how art like this can be versatile and can mean different things throughout just a few years of somebody’s life
This song came up in concert for me during a period of time where I was considering not being alive and I was stressing out enough to actually have cardiac problems. Cancer for a cat and moving and a close relative dying we’re all involved in a three month time span. And then he played this at Saxapah? I don’t remember. Was standing and not Cat’s Cradle. And it felt like a sign and I took it.
I freaking love the mountain goats they are so underrated they put so much soul into their songs how can u hate or dislike this band they are the goats for a reason
This isn’t my favorite on it but I do love it. My favorite is Harlem Roulette. Something haunting and beautiful about “some no one in the future remembers that you’re gone”. Big agree that the album is a treasure and some of their best.
A big thank you to John and company from us fans is in order! Love watching these tracks from an amazing session. Only suggestion would be to have a camera angle for the bassist. He is so talented and always kills it
The riff from This Year coming back for this really works. First you teach yourself to stay alive through spite/desperation, then step two is to turn those into staying alive for the joy of life itself.
I don't know how every song from Jordan Lake can be better than the original but this is a prime example I loved the original Transcendental Youth version but I can't listen to it anymore because this one just knocks it out of the park in every single possible way JD just gets better and better with every passing year
