  • Retired United States Air Force Major Brian Shul was the featured speaker at the 2018 Great Alaska Aviation Gathering in Anchorage, AK. He was a pilot of the formerly Top Secret SR-71 Blackbird aircraft. The title of his speech was: "The Speed of Life: Perseverance and Triumph Over Tragedy."
This is a copy of the text from the aviation gathering's website:
"A highly motivating, humorous, and fascinating talk that covers some of Mr. Shul's experiences from lying near death on a jungle floor in Vietnam, to flying the world's fastest jet, the SR-71. He also talks about his present day photography and the books he has authored. Coupled with Mr. Shul's breathtaking slides taken in flight, and his philosophical views on life, this is an unforgettable presentation for all in attendance.
Brian Shul is a Vietnam War-era attack pilot and a retired major in the United States Air Force (USAF). He flew 212 combat missions and was shot down near the end of the war. He was so badly burned that he was given next to no chance to live. Surviving, he returned to full flight status, flying the SR-71 Blackbird. Major Shul completed a 20-year career in the Air Force. He has written four books on aviation and runs a photo studio in California."

All the times I seen the SR-71 I wonder if it was the A-12. Does not matter it is too late now. So...is the A-12 still classified?

Every time one of those beautiful planes took off I would point up. Not sure if I could be seen. Only a few hundred feet away. I still would like to know who was flying the one that had to be carried away on 2 flat beds. Tire or landing gear. I was there. Coming in from the Ocean.
SAC is in left. MAC is on right just pass the C5 on the side. We had to drive in fron that way.
