I grew up there. Graduated from Alhambra high school in 1977. I have such fond memories of that place.

37,000 residents. High rents. Great employees who are controlled by: AT WILL cross dressers and a person who banned straws. We concentrate on: EQUITY which means that GENERALLY qualifications for a position is of minor importance,,,people use Martinez as a steppig stone. HUGE turnover. Mayor stated the city had an issue communicating with people,,, she woud fix that. NEWEST of 15 city managers in a few years wanted transparency. The placement of a person as a CITY CLERK under the control of the city manager ends transparency. 10,000 Residents of Martinez voted for such.
For the wondeful portion: If you live here we have a great police department... they can get bored... in a sense safe. In another sense no different that all cities but our chief is a politition. Officers great! City is very much against new construction unless you are willing to paint SHADOW LINES on a home to reflect the setting sun.
Recently they banned basements and building that could protect you from a bomb attact and even banned a person who wanted to train people at an indoor range how to safely protect children from gun violence. We now have a policy that, without the permission of the council, one council person can fly a Natzi flag. Has not happened. If you can avoid going to city hall then this may be the best city in the Bay Area.
WEATHER: Wow! 10 to 20 degrees less that Concord SOUTH. Less wind than Fairfield north. Sometimes FOG... Simply a great city until you deal with the far left. I speak as a 40 year resident.
