    I think Tomlin would KILL it in college. That said, who wants to go from the Steelers, coaching men, to college where you have to spend 360 days a year begging 17 year old kids to pick your school? Screw that.

      @@odieonekaraoke lol tomlin makes 8 mil per year with the stillers. Usc paid their last coach 4.5 mil per year. Tomlin also has job security leagues ahead of the USC job. No contest. Thats why tomlin treated this as the low level garbo rumor that it is

      @@nothanksguy Who cares what they paid their last coach? If they hired Tomlin, they'd be paying him 10 million a year. Jimbo and Saban type money. I don't even remember the last coach. Wasn't Sarkisian, was it? Doesn't matter, wasn't a name like Tomlin. They'd give him a Jimbo like 10/100 type deal and he'd get them back to the CFP.
      Not saying he should've left, but they wouldn't ask him to take a pay cut. I mean....cmon...

    A head coach needs to be a great communicator. I have literally never listened to Mike Tomlin speak and say "what did he mean by that?" Precision of speech.

      @@BG-bx4ey it’s the definition of snake oil. saying a whole lot of words to say nothing and using invented abstract terminology to convey intelligence. he literally could have said “we needed to make big plays to make up for our lack of execution.” but he said it in a way that even he felt he had to explain back to the audience. “great communicators” can convey their message in as few words as possible with great effectiveness.

      Thank U for clarifying the obvious to non competent casual Steelers haters or observers. Tomlin will coach in Pittsburgh until he retires and starts coaching highschool for fun. USC is not a relevant football program. Please stop pretending because we can see what USC is all about. Very little. It's an insult and a major distraction to even bother him with this paltry trash. He showed U just as much in the interview. He was pissed and I don't blame him.

      @@thegrandarchitect1 USC is not relevant? That is just insane. They're just not good right NOW...but this is like saying 'Bama wasn't relevant before Saban. That's one of the top 5 programs in the country. A good coach who can recruit and just keep those kids in state would make them relevant. Once they get back to being a top 20 team and start getting out of state kids sprinkled in, they'll again be dominant.
      And I give zero fucks about SC and obviously I think the Steelers are a better job. Maybe the best job in all of Football, so not arguing that part, but schools like USC, 'Bama, Texas.
      ..the blue bloods, they're always a "relevant" job or program. Plus the obvious ones like OSU, OK, GA.
      But put Tomlin at USC and they're in the CFP in 5years.

      @@scourge8097 It's easily the best job in all of football. Quite possibly in all of U.S. professional sports.
      USC's last national title was nearly 20 years ago. In the past decade, they've won their conference exactly one time. It's a completely irrelevant program. It's their brand that's relevant, but given enough time, that won't be relevant either unless they turn things around. I can see why they'd want a guy like Tomlin, but the fact of the matter is he's way above that job.

      It's not ridiculous...it's USC, but I WOULD love how he addressed it if he were the Packers coach(I do love the way he DID answer as it is).
      But his name was thrown out there. It's not that crazy. Tomlin would have USC dominant in a couple years...not that he should, but IF he choose to. The way people respect him AND the way he can communicate...he'd have the top classes year after year with that Socal talent base.

    As a Steelers fan, I loved that response from Tomlin, I've been a supporter of him since I started watching, he was clearly pissed about that even being a question, he stoked a fire in his team by basically saying he's loyal to Pittsburgh in that answer, love it

      Yeah, but part of that is they've just been smart and hired three great coaches in succession. It's like saying being the Packers QB is the safest job. Now Pittsburgh is so well run they don't buckle to reactionary fans, but they've also just had 3 great coaches.

      @@gunner-qf9eh Not just a college thing either. Same in the NFL. Green Bay is similar to Pittsburgh in that they like continuity. Lafleur will probably be there until he wants to leave or until he starts skipping meetings for massages like McCarthy, but they're all kinds different from Pitt. I guess Baltimore would be the closest comp, but in order to have coaches last that long, you need front offices constantly drafting talent.
      But you are right. LSU won a Natty 2 years ago...and now their coach is getting fired. You don't get much of a grace period.

    The Steelers have always been very patient and pick candidates wisely. They aren't looking for the next Patriots coordinator or the next hot coordinator. They want excellent communicators and good teachers and most of all effective motivators. Teams go through so many head coaches and even winning a Super Bowl is not enough. But Tomlin has stayed and delivered results year after year. Wish other franchises had this type of thinking.

    I understand Tomlin.     I loved this video so much. Well said and well covered.
    Although Tomlin does get a rough ride from some sections of Steeler nation most of us love him. He's one hell of a communicator.

      @@Muss67, the Rooneys have stated that they will not let a coach go unless he loses the team (not a game or season). They hire well, and give coaches what they need to succeed. If Noll and Cowher had losing seasons and didn’t get canned (Noll’s first was fairly horrific), then it’s the ownership that’s critically important.

      Rich got it but he excused the question becuse he knew the source wasn't ill-intended. Remember, Tomlin didn't know the source, and we don't know of a single black NFL head coach that was recycled back into head coaching, whereas white coaches are recycled all the time. All Tomlin knew was there are two other great coaches that are doing worse than him and they weren't asked that question by a white person. When a white person asks a black person a question like that, they mean that a black person no good. Glad Tomlin stood up for himself and his organization.

    Mike Tomlin has 2 ring as 1 as HC one as a Defensive Backs coach under Jon Gruden but was actually hired to Dungys Buc staff not by Gruden. They picked of 3 passes in the Buccaneers SB win in 02.

    Why would he go anywhere? He gets to coach where Al Bundy played, granted it's no Polk High, so he didn't get to coach him throwing 4TDs in one game, but it's still nice.

    2:25 "The benefit of college is that if you win, you're there forever..." Not entirely true, but for a majority of places, yes. Yet places like USC, Ohio State, Michigan, etc; you can win all the time but if you don't beat your rivals and win championships...YOU ARE OUT! Happens all the time. Expectations can be outrageous in some places.

    Except Carson Palmer didn't couch it as a "wishlist." He made it seem like these are the people we are considering. Which would sound like these are coaches that are interested. Also, what Tomlin didn't say, the USC job is a step DOWN from coaching the Steelers.

    Tomlin has reached his peak at Pittsburgh. Would love to see him motivate young men in college but he’s staying put.
