Most bands today are an acquired taste. Not everyone gets what they truly mean. Yet, Ed Sheeran is more popular. Has more sales. Why? Bcoz his music is just an ordinary pop.
True, but Ed Sheeran's break out hit was The A Team, about a girl struggling with addiction. Wasn't really a pop song, but it was the one that made him famous. He could have gone a different direction, "you need me man I don't need you" is another good example of where he could have went with his talent. But he chose to go pop, radio songs.
