    Fellow food scientist here! Working in the food plants is more lucrative than starting out in corporate jobs most of the time. I have a 4 year degree and I started my first job at $60,000 4 years ago as a quality supervisor trainee. I started my first official supervisor job less than 2 years later at $75,000 and last year I got a 12% raise. You can be a quality manager with 5 years of experience and those make around $120k at my company. The best way to advance your career within the plant realm besides being good at your job is being willing to move, I’ve lived in 4 different states during my time, but am settling down now. I’ve worked at the same company for my whole career and have been able to build a solid reputation which is awesome and from it, I know many people throughout the industry who I have worked with and they have moved on to new roles and companies. I also love that I have been able to travel a ton too! My role currently is food safety based, working a lot on audit prep in my plant, but I get to help at other plants all over the US!

      My degree was Food Science and Technology from a small state school and most of the people I have worked with only have a 4 year degree, what matters most is experience rather than major. I did intern with the company before I graduated

      와, 한국분이신가요? 안녕하세요 식영, 식공 둘 다 공부 중인 학생입니다 :) 이쪽 분야에 열정이나 애정이 있으신게 아니라면 오지 말라고 말씀드리고 싶어요. 외국에서 일하신다면 모르겠지만, 한국에서는 식품쪽은 매우 별로입니다. 식품은 한국에 대기업이 없고요, 대부분 중소입니다. 품질관리쪽으로 가신다면 200 정도의 월급으로 굉장히 짭니다. 그리고 연구원을 하고싶으시다면 석사를 꼭 나오셔야 일하실 수 있습니다. 공부하는거에 비해 그닥 매력적인 분야는 아니고요, 만일 한국에서 사실거라면 더 빡세게 공부하셔서 다른 쪽으로 가시는걸 추천합니다.

    Hello... I'm currently a 3rd year student in RSA doing BSc in food and technology but yet, I have no skills on how to prepare myself for better job after completing my degree... I actually wish to go international in future coz I also like exploring and I'd like to build a new life outside the country but yet can anyone share ideas on how I can achieve all this step by step and also growing financially to manage my life while doing my interesting field. Like how and where can I apply for internships after my degree? What can I do while waiting for my applications to be responded to? What are alternative jobs I can apply for?

    • @yasmines43
      @yasmines43 Před měsícem

      For Internships I am not sure where your at but I applied on indeed basically to anywhere. Allot of industries will pay for you to do an internship and if they like you they would take you in. My advice even if you know you want to do Food science step out of your comfort zone apply to like Biopharmaceutical companies some will hire you. Also try government internships to see if they are looking. Remember any experience you have is experience even if you worked in a restaurant or volunteered at a library.
