Story of Iran as narrated in this video, I'd say is actually incomplete if not inaccurate. One must understand the events that led to the Iranian revolution (some 10 yrs before) it was purely due to the exploitation of Iranian oil by Brits and Americans and because the then ruler was a puppet in the hands of US. If a country takes a stand to protect its resources and wealth there is no way one could interfere there but as always US played it's role to dethrone the pm and from there religious leaders took control of the situation and gained.
Having said this I don't support the policies of the existing Iranian dispensation but most common people there are really good and hospitable (they also don't approve of religious extremism and their rulers).
There are many interesting places in Iran to visit and to shop too. I'd encourage ppl to visit once if they're not too bothered about the rules of conduct (public behaviour), dealing with women, dress code etc.
I guess if they relax such policies for the tourists then it'll be much better for Iranian economy but it's their country and their wish how they want to run their country. Visitors cannot have a say in how they want them to be unless their people say it out loud.
