  • A railway journey i filmed from Galway City to Ballinasloe on a MK2 intercity train. Train pass's through Athenry and Woodlawn. This was a time of great change for Irish Rail and the staff. It was just before all the signal cabins became automated and made the job of the Signal man redundant. Railway gates were no longer opened manually by gate keepers. It was also around the time that all the wooden railway sleepers were replaced with concrete sleepers and the steel railway tracks were replaced with what is called continuous welded tracks. You could here the difference from the train, no longer the clickity clack, but a continuous hum.
