I wish CZcams and these Jim Lee videos had existed when I was 10 years old. I'd probably be a comic book artist by now.
It ain't too late yet
You’re alive Joe? No reason you can’t do it now except the reasons you make and accept.
For sure it's never too late.. I've just started drawing.. have fun and give yourself permission to dream and fly high
for real!
Get going
This guy's a genius. I wish I could've taken a course about this stuff in high school. Art classes aren't the same thing, they're usually talking about paintings and stuff.
@Randominator It appears that you have too much time on your hands.
@@pdubby Grapes are fun
Randominator if this was School sure.
highschool, or the one I went to, did "not" teach this kind of thing, it was the basics of art, like drawing still-life and paints, etc.... :( Even college doesn't always teach you what you would like to learn the most and you end up paying big time for that.
My high school art class taught me NOTHING. I learned how to draw from Jim LEE and David Finch.
His "simple" sketches always blow me away. Wish we could clone Jim and have him teach at every art school
Most insightful tips on how to visualize body movement I've ever been exposed to. Since watching this, I created a dozen quick sketches and one nailed the action I visualized simply by relating the chest and pelvis positions.

I've never seen anyone draw so quickly and accurately. Jim is a fucking savage
Check out Kim Jung gi, Peter Han and Carl kopinski
Jim IS the modern day Jack Kirby. No one else has been so influential in the field of modern comics.
This is the ComicBook version of Leonardo daVinci teaching how to paint

Wilson Studios that’s Alex Ross lol
give this man an Oscar
@@skadooshly Yeah Ross's painting is extremely refined.
@@skadooshly Alex Ross has a completely different style.
This guy is a genius. Makes it look easy.
You have to be in awe at Jim’s incomparable work ethic - such confidence with every line
* crying in amazement while feeling extremely inspired*
I will learn the way..
I will.....
This takes time to learn. A lot of time and actual love for it. Don’t do it for the wrong reasons.
amani mango what are the wrong reasons?
@@684avatar I don't think anyone could do it for wrong readons. I mean it's not a job that makes alot of money and fame. Everyone draws cuz they love it
*shows the basic shapes of chest*
:Okay
*Immediately draws other parts of the body*
:WAITTTTT
Even after seeing your artwork in comic books for many, many years now. I'm still blown away by how easy you make it look. I've been an artist ever since I could hold a pencil. And only recently have I really begun to pull my ability together. And it's because of watching your videos!
Thanks Jim Lee!
0:42 Jim Lee? More like Gym Lee.
Hahahaha
Literally laughed out loud!
BOOOOOO!!!! 👎😡🐂💩🗑🐑

@GOD OF ART Fair
Jim Lee and Todd McFarlane. Two of my favorite comic book artists of all time! This is an absolute treat to watch and learn! :)
Jim doesn't owe us an apology for anything. I appreciate him taking the time and effort to explain how it's done.
That guy in the back is creeping me out
he's watching silently from the distance and thinking about murder, like a stalker :D
I think that's a figure of Jim Gordon.
Pretty sure it's "Flat Ronnie." Ronnie the limo driver from the Stern show. Howard has the same standee in his studio. Just another way to stay young and I dig it.
Yeah...........looks like Jim Gordon.
it creeped me out too tbh xD
seeing that guy in the back at 6:13 scared the hell out of me at 3am
*when he started drawing the stick in the figure's hand*
Me: Oh God, yes. Please be Daredevil.
*starts drawing the D's on the chest*
Me: YESSSS!!!!
I have watched many tutorials but this one, has been the one which helped me the most. Jim Lee's art is my favourite, his tutorials are very simple and informative. If anyone is interested in learning more about drawing comic book characters, I recommend that you look up every Jim Lee tutorial you can find.
Randomly came across this channel.... was not disappointed!! 😌😌😌
How amazing and helpful is this! Especially love the line at the beginning about learning off anatomy (alone) not being enough to pull these off- that's what I've learnt for myself as well.
Thank you so much for posting these. Eye opening. So much comprehensive knowledge. Lee is a cool dude.
Real happy i stumbled across this!!! I couldn't believe it when i read that Jim Lee is giving are lessons, unbelievable. I can't stop smiling as i watch them. Thanks!!
Even the most basic draft Jim Lee does is Master Piece! Love his work (especially in Punisher War Journal).

Damn it 😂. You make it look so easy. You’re incredible. I’m in art school and I have a hard time loosening up in my work, it takes me entirely too long to lay out a pose let alone a finish. Bravo. Just saw you the other day on Fatman Beyond, and while you’ve been here all along, I just now figured out you had a channel. You’ve got yourself another subscriber, this is treasure trove of knowledge. Thank you for your wisdom and experience Jim. Keep up the good work.
this is great. I've loved Jim lee's art since I was old enough to understand comics. my friends and I would always argue the "best" comic artist for various reasons. and even though all the different styles out there are magnificent in their own right, Jim Lee was always my #1 choice. superb.
i know that I am a lowly person who means nothing, but I just wanted to say that you have always been my 100% favorite artist of all time. You are the person I wanted to e when I ws a kid. You're work will live forever., and Thank you for all of your decades of prenominal work
Your videos are so relaxing. I love how your mic pics up the pencil. Always been a big fan. Love that you take the time to do these.
Jim has always been my favorite comic book artist. I wish he would come out with an art/ drawing book
This just xploded in my head. First body I draw after watching this was like WAY easier to get right. THANKS!
Jim's voice calms me, thank you Jim for this course🙏
Jim Lee is hands down the best comic ever artists
Thanks, master for explaining so magically what is important in any flat art form, the impression of movement and dept...just amazing! 👏👏👏
Cheers,
Hans van Meer.
Beautiful thing is, The Legend is teaching us ... you are the best Sir Jim Lee .
Listening to Jim Lee explain super complex stuff simply is my ASMR.
The dynamics of his pencil work are awesome, beautiful sketches that seem to just appear from nowhere.
Pure gold. Simple but essential knowledge. Thanks Jim!

Wow! I really feel like a superstar following this lesson. Thanks again for upping my game another level.
Great technique and breakdown thanks, wasn't expecting the flat Ronnie that's awesome.
First time I've seen the Legend sketch in real-time or speak, after being a fan of his work for 30 years. All I've seen is his picture and incredible artwork. Fascinating. What an absolute legend.
I love how Jim Lee can draw all of this in Marker and not mess up. One day I’ll reach his talent level. I just started drawing yesterday, wish me luck!
I try like him Kualitas Permukiman Kumuh Perkotaan
Aaaaaand once again, with this technique, Jim Lee has shown why he is a hero! My hero!
Jim Lee is made 100 % of awesomeium :)
Great stuff! Love that RM cameo in the background. Met Jim Lee in 1990 at a mini con In downtown SF near EMB. Was trying to get him to notice my art but he was getting hounded. Some guy named Bob Harras was giving me props for my art but I was paying too much attention to Jim Lee. What a dummy I was. Suzanne Gaffney and Whilce Portacio were also there.
Tbh I think Comic book artists are best to learn from. They understand how the body works in action and how to simplify the motions to basic shapes and positioning. I learned so much from this 15min video than I ever did in any class or personal practice.
I actually follow both reference it was amazing to hear it from a pro well not everyone on this day have little sister's ballerina always jumping and dancing and don't forget the action figures collection the rubber band detail just caught me off guard you make me travel on your personal time machine those was priceless days thanks for your inspirational time
I've always been into comics and drawing but in high school and college it was all sports for me, now that i cant really play anymore, (shoulder) You have inspired me to draw more. Thanks.
I really hope that one day I'll be able to draw as good as Jim Lee
I think the really cool thing is even if you just take his guidelines like how he does the pelvis or how he does pentagonal hands, if you actually use all his tips, even if your rendering is different or the eyes aren't the same or w/e, you can still capture a similar feeling to Jim Lee's work
Not sure if Jim knows this; but he is a superb unintentional ASMRtist.
Hi Jim! Loving your series, serious long time fan, don't quite idolise you (creepy!), but you, humberto, and a bunch of others are my linework heroes, I stare at pages for 15 minutes at a time without realising. Any-hoo, just followed this one over a few hours or so, lots of breaks from chronic fatigue, but improving rapidly. Haven't drawn in years and missed the basics at school (they just didn't teach it) so LOVING this! Thanks for the masterclass for FREE, who knew?!?
Wow that's been very helpful. This is my first how to video on drawing. I've always had natural talent when it comes to drawing but this video has helped take my work to another level
Thank you for this tutorial! I love it!!! Jim Lee, you are a genius!!!
Thanks Jim Lee I needed to understand how to draw in the shadows when I draw in a comic book way .
Love the "Ronnie the Limo driver" in the background!!
This was great stuff Mr Lee. You simplified the way of making the process. Thank you sir.

Jim could just draw with his eyes close and still will look amazing. Thanks for all the tips they are awesome
AMAZING!!! Thanks for teaching us! Master!
I am watching and studying everyday.
Thank you very much.
Fascinating video. Pretty sure there was an audible "click" inside my drawing brain while watching. Can't wait to try this out! Thanks, Jim!

Amazing. Jim Lee is a legend.
Thanks Jim, simple yet effective. Appreciate it!
Please keep doing more of these videos, these tips help a lot!!
Awesome advice and a good lesson on how to improve. I will try and implement these techniques and I'm sure given time I can get better at drawing human anatomy. Thanks for the helpful video. :)
Everybody tune in to twitch.tv/jimlee on Sunday at 10 AM Pacific time...
Do you draw comics and if so can i get a link to see some of your work thanks
I doodle here and there but I'm not confident enough in my work to share it. Maybe one day...
Thanks for all video you post i have been studying Jim lee and Alvin lee sense the 90's to create my own style
Not a problem, man. Those are two excellent artists to study from.
Thank you for your patience to teach so many of us.
Jim Lee knows so much about the human body, that if he wasnt a comic book artist, he would be a docotr
Seeing jim lee with a headset on makes me so happy

Thank you this helped me alot with more or less sketching it out and how to make a dynamic pose thank you
I learned so much from this. Its funny how everything seems so obvious after someone shows it to you
Your so great Jim. Thank you for sharing
He draws DD so beautifully
Dude you are now my favorite artist in the WORLD!!

Thank you for making this video! I really needed it!
Of all the tutorials I have watched this one is definitely the most helpful
Good job Mr. Lee. Thank you for this.

This man is so amazing to watch
This video is helping me out a lot. Just ran by your work. Thanks for the hard work putting out these videos. Just subbed and looking forward to seeing more videos bro man dude.
This is one of the best instruction videos I've seen. Thanks bruh.
This is so inspiring i love comic books and drawing the characters but when drawing action poses it never felt right or good enough.Iam excited to draw again you are amazing thank you
Just practice, I'm sure his drawings didn't look good when he first started.
thank you jim, for the art and lessons
Loving your stuff man!!!
minute 2:18 jim lee draws an apple. Just want to say Jim ROCKS!
Mr Lee , you know you didn't teach anything but that was inspiring for fast drawing and thank you for that....if you see an ability in someone else , you realize that you can do it too!
man the way u catch such poses is perfect.
I wish you were my art teacher when I was in school! My life may have turned out very different. Thanks for sharing your great talent.
been waiting for this upload
This was so cool to watch.
I don’t get the “thumbs down”. He doesn’t HAVE to do this. We didn’t pay him to teach us this. It’s free. He’s an instant Hall of Famer. If someone doesn’t like this vid... they can simply scroll to something else.
My first how to draw book was "How to draw the Marvel way" written by Stan Lee and illustrated by John Buscema. I bet you Jim Lee read that too as a kid. Even with all these youtube vids, just get a copy of that if you love comics and want to draw. Fantastic addition to all these learning tools.
Those strokes are so pro.
Awesome, keep making such videos
Damn, when he flexes. Damnnn. You can tell he's been working hard hehe! And like prior comments have told, it does show in his art, and that sometimes detailed or lengthy drawings could be taxing, and sitting around a lot can have adverse effects to the body so it's important to move around too. So, it's nice he has a peak physical condition as well cuz it actually helps in drawing too and sitting down, keeping a good posture
I cam here from a Finch vid. Getting back into drawing and realizing I need to understand anatomy better. I was just getting started with our vid and cracked up at your Flat Ronnie in the background....LOL...Looking foward to your vid.
Jim Lee=the best.
Who the actual F&%K disliked this video!?
Brooks Oswald marvel fanboys?
snobby artists who dont agree
Too true! lol
Brooks Oswald i did
Anirudh Ramakrishnan But he’s drawing a Marvel character 😂
