Welcome to the NHL, where you can review a play from 8 minutes ago for being offside but not a series changing goal in OT.
Are you talking about landeskog being "offside"
@@zezoworld1330 no just in general for offside. Like Steve said, they care about getting the right call...sometimes.
Handpasses have to have a closed hand. Review it again lil guy.

NBA/NFL: we have the worst refs no question
NHL: hold my beer real quick
nah NFL is still the worst easily because the league still doesnt know which penalties it wants to enforce and also which rules to make up on the fly

Why are they hiring NFL officials for the NHL
Because legalized gambling requires more and more rigged games.
Diss Info Finally someone said it. I want to know why vegas gets pro teams. The gambling capitol of the USA. In all these play off games the calls seem so weak. So hey, lets bring gambling into the mix. Now were legit! Really wise!
@@rollinrat4850 The Raiders would move to Hell, if Satan built them a stadium.
I'm pretty sure those were the same refs for the saints rams playoff game.
Only 4 people in the arena couldn't see the hand pass. Also only 4 people in the arena get paid to see stuff like that.
preeeetty sure those 4 got paid to not see things, for one side. Hence a certain coach's very confident interview where he said the 'refs will take care of us'.
@James Reilly im originally from tampa and now live about 2 hours from stl so theyre my alternate team and im bummed the first cup has an asterisk from poor officiating. I honestly think the blues would have won. But now we wont know
NHL refs have been a joke this entire playoffs, I’ve been watching hockey for 11 years and this is one of the worst officiating times of hockey I’ve ever seen. Like good god, how bad can you possibly be this bad? It’s unfortunate that some great hockey has been utterly and completely ruined by horrific officiating and lack of understanding the rules of the sport.
Says the pens fan
Eye-rolling, head-shaking Knights fan. I believe the sharks are fellating the ref before the game.
@Yeet Miester I must agree with you and the young Pen's fan. Everyone who has been watching these playoffs should give the officiating a low grade. No matter what team or teams you love or hate. There have been obvious major blunders, but then there's all the little stuff that's called or missed. A player barely taps the stick, and the opponent drops it, resulting in a minor for slashing. Those are both funny and ridiculous! Early in the playoffs Chara got crushed from behind and no call, but plenty of those are often called. I guess size matters. Jake DeBrusk was called for a slash on McGinn because he literally skated next to him. There was nothing there! Now one for our side. My little buddy, Torey Krug was into it a bit with Justin Williams, so Krug basically offered his own stick to Williams and the Captain took it, resulting in a minor penalty, perhaps for holding the stick. Lol Ridiculous.
I think "America's Funniest Video's" is tuning in to the NHL playoffs now, for a chance to boost their content. Someone send them the Shark's Videos. : ) Just kidding. It's really been awful all the way around. . .
I’ve been watching hockey for 15 years and I can attest to the referees are ass.
I've been watching since 92. It was worst ive seen
Anyone remember Karlsson yelling at Matt Duchene? "Don't touch that!"
Lost Cause yeah!

@@robertfullam8898 And his replacement came on the ice when he was well into the O zone. The only way to clear the offside at that point is for him to get both skates off the ice.
Why shouldn't hand passes be allowed? Because that's not hockey.
ଳଳଳ ଚଚଚ hand passes are allowed. In your own defensive zone. Not in the opponents zone. I thought it was a hand pass because of the motion to move the puck but I can see how they say it’s not because you can’t see him actually hit it, it falls to him

Imagine trying to explain the rules to someone new to hockey not for just this game, but the whole playoffs!! "You can't do that, SOMETIMES."
If you're wearing blue gold and white it's not a penalty. If your logo looks like a toilet flushing, it is always a penalty.

I don't understand those Hamilton penalties at all. Me too, Brind'Amour.
Hey Rebecca, Bruin's fan in the house, just registering my agreement. Not really sure what he did wrong there, either.
It's been horrendous in these playoffs in every series and every game. The only silver lining I can come up with,
and I know I'm really reaching here, is thank God the NHL uses only the best officials for the playoffs or this could be much worse!
Rebecca Johnson at the second one i think that referee call it ‘cause Hamilton doesn’t play the puck
Still wonder how the game would have changed if St Louis was called on the puck over glass. I guess it all balances out in the end ....
Supe063 not the same as a game/series changing goal bud
@@nathanielcava4128 ... you can't say that. What if a SJ power play scored? Different game all together then. With game/series implications.
This post season brought the NHL to its lowest level of integrity ever?
I'm pretty sure Brett Hull's goal to end the era of calling back goals for having your toenail in the crease (it wasn't called back??!?) was worse than this year's debacles that have been detailed in the above video.
Dark Theme welllllll if you consider new replay technology and the fact that it’s 2019 and the league still hasn’t figured this out.... I think that this is an overall way more inexcusable situation.
The NHL is quickly becoming the NBA. I haven't watched one NBA game since game six of the 2002 Western Conference Finals.
* Al Eagleson ainec. Refs have been brutal though no argument there. Glad Blues are up 3-2 at least.
If they let hand passes be a thing but say that you can't bat it into the net with your hand, then it's the exact same scenario as the kicking thing that you were making fun of.
My question is, if the play is reviewed for a hand pass and the goal is overturned, do the Blues get the penalty for tripping Meier putting him into the position where he could no longer play the puck with his stick? It was a pretty obvious trip, but I didn't see the officials arm go up. Looked like two missed calls about a second apart.
yeah, but only one resulted in a game-deciding illegal goal

But you conveniently forgot about the two power plays the Sharks were denied (one being the Delay of Game puck over the glass) that changed the entire momentum of the game. And you didn't care about the obvious non-penalty called on Joe Thornton which gave the Blues a PP and go ahead goal.

I think it's funny that FanDuel is refunding money for bets placed on the Sharks Blues Game #handpass
I hate the sharks but I think it's fair that they one. Everyone talks about the goal in overtime that shouldn't have counted, but the blues also got away with a goal from perron when he should've been in the box for delay of game moments earlier.
@@colinf3963 then it would've been a tie game and it would've still been decided by a hand pass.
@@rockmyballsplease if perron didn't score the goal than the blues would've been down a goal and the sharks would've won in regulation
@@colinf3963 You are forgetting that the tying goal, their fourth goal was scored with an extra attacker and the goalie pulled, so it was a six on 5 situatuion. Had Perron not scored it would simply be 3-3 and the sharks would have had no need to pull for an extra attacker. Of course all this is assuming the game stayed the same .
Maybe it's time to send a gift basket to Dan O'Halloran and say "Sorry we sent you home after an understandable mix-up over that cross-check. Any chance you could come back to work? 'Cause the other guys are way worse."

They don't want reviews to slow down the game. The more the game stops for reviews the slower and longer the games take. That being said, with the technology that they have now most goals would take a couple seconds to review, most goals are not difficult to tell if they are legit. I am surprised the announcer could even say 'bats it in front' without mentioning 'hand pass, this will probably be blown dead'
"Dang it, sharks get all the breaks". Bout time in my opinion, feels good.
They been getting the most visible breaks. But even in that game there were two other "didn't see it, can't call it" items that went against the Sharks and favored the Blues- the Perron puck over the glass, and the Blais headshot on Braun. If the Perron delay of game gets called correctly, the Blues momentum is stopped and the Sharks maintain the lead and we never even get to OT.
This is my favourite of these videos, as I am both laughing and furious at once.

As soon as I saw this I knew it would make it into Dang Its which makes it a little better but as a Blues fan it still stings a lot
Tampa had a goal taken back for the same thing with Tyler Johnson jumping through the door during the regular season.
Eric Quina thank you. I just posted the link on this video.
I think its dumb, but the rule is the rule. If he had skated one more stride into the neutral zone it would have been a goal.
Eric Quina that play stuck with me. Then I saw it happen again. I knew it was going to be overturned because of Brayden Point getting his called back because of Johnson. I just knew it.

That hand was the Sharks demise. It took 37 seconds into the first period in the next game for the Hockey Gods to even the score. After that, every bounce / carom went to the Blues. We scored off the sharks sticks etc....As far as I'm concerned, Meier doomed his team with that blatant cheat move. They were never the same team.

One of the funniest things I have seen. Well done !
Imagine having games handed to you on a sliver platter by the refs. Must be nice to be a shark right now.
If the NHL doesn’t fire all of their refs, I, I don’t, I don’t know anymore
These guys are career referees that have officiated THOUSANDS of games.. Who do you suggest would do a better job?? They are human and will make mistakes once in a while, the real issue is the NHL and their wacky rule book on what is and isn't reviewable.
Keep Wes MCauly
@Mike 'Doc' Emrick Wes McCauley is hands down the best.. For the record - he was one of the refs in Sharks/Avs game 7.
@Mike 'Doc' Emrick No sarcasm on my part, just pointing out that the good ones aren't immune from the controversial stuff either.
Don’t forget that missed delay of game penalty
@5:20 No, that's a DOUBLE DANG-IT !
So you can review a goal if it’s kicked in but you can’t review a hand pass that leads to a goal? Hmm. Makes sense. (no salt here)
Absolutely no reason for Schultz to not gain the red line before sending that puck down toward the empty net. Bad play that, along with the other icing, was going to bite them...you just didn’t expect it to happen on that kind of a play...but then again, stranger legal things have happened in postseason play. Very interested in the first 5 minutes tonight for Game 4, and if both teams don’t get their act together, Boston will eat them alive - well rested, starting at home, and oh by the way, their goaltender just stopped 109/114 shots and their powerplay scored more goals (7) than the Canes scored TOTAL goals (5) in the series, and Boston has the number 1 powerplay in the postseason...
...dang it...
Alright I enjoy watching these videos it’s freaking dang it hilarious 😂🤘🤘
This is the sports version of Charlie Day
The question that should be asked is how is that not reviewable? If I didn't know better I'd swear professional sports leagues go out of their way to figure scenarios where a non-existent rule can't be applied.
If you can go back for a missed call like a hand pass, why shouldn't you be able to go back and look at a missed high stick or trip that affected the scoring play? It just opens a rabbit hole and the NHL is trying to avoid that. I'm not saying it's right but I understand why they are so black-and-white about it in the rule book.
I think you should just have a separate channel called Steves dang it’s !so funny😂
Upon further review, it has been determined the Sharks lead the WCF 2 games to 1.
Because of multiple ridiculous calls/non calls.
@@Mr.Pants45 Agreed. Like the non calls on the delay of game by Perron or the hit to head of Braun.
@@chrisolson2846 those didnt directly lead to a scoring opportunity dumbass. There were high sticks by the Sharks too that weren't called. Dont act like you would be saying the same thing if the blues won off of a hand pass. You're being a complete hypocrite.
Mr. Pants chill damn
The ONLY time that's legal is if the puck is directed from YOUR hand to YOUR stick, NOT another player's.
This was a great episode, first off. But you can't allow hand passes, because even if you say the puck can't go in off a hand pass, that's not enough. Because players will be chucking all sorts of pucks at or NEAR the net. So then you're going to have to watch slomo replays to see if the puck went in off a hand and then touched a stick or didn't, etc, plus sticks and hands would be batting at the same puck in midair even more often. I get that it doesn't seem bad now, but once players got used to it, it'd become a terrible idea.
When steve gets excited he sounds like Charlie from it's always sunny.
It felt like a devils flashback of Brodeur getting run, looked so similar
(Edit) The skate off the ice I mean
There weren't enough red arrows on the thumbnail; couldn't see the puck.
Bettman: "How can we get a Boston + San Jose finals?"
Refs: "I got this..."
Steve continues to maintain his spot in my list of favorite humans, I love this man
With the tech we have now, devising a system without refs on the rink should be relatively simple…
Even though it would be devastating for a ref to be partial or even bought, some calls make you seriously wonder..
Except fights.
Watching it frame by frame...
1. Was the puck directed downward by Shark #28 Meier? Yes
2. Was the Meier directing the puck to a teammate? Doubtful
3. Was Meier attempting to reach out with his stick to pass the puck? Possibly
4. If St. Louis Blues Schenn's right leg not deflected Meier's stick could Meier have got his stick on the puck? Again, Possibly
5. If the Blue's stopped Meier from handling the puck after batting it down, can it be ruled a "Hand Pass"? I'm thinking not. Tough call.
I'll add maybe the puck deflected on Bouwmeester's leg because he clearly attempted to kick the puck.... we can't really tell and there is no evidence it did or it didn't.
No Steve, read comments correctly... Meier didn’t kick it with his leg, Bouwmeester did. I still can’t get a Blues fan (or anyone) to definitively tell me that the opposing player’s leg does negate the hand pass or not?!?
Paul Behee Bouwmeester has to have control of it in order to negate the hand pass. With that said watch Meier hit the puck with his hand. It then hits Meier’s stick(watch from all angles and you will see the stick vibrate and you can also hear the puck hitting the stick) and bounces to the Sharks #14 and he passed to Karlsson. Because the puck hit Meier’s stick that should also negate the hand pass. This is one complicated rule. This is how I understand it from reading the official hand pass rule from the NHL rule book. The only reason I think the puck made it to another Shark is because it hit Meier’s stick. In my opinion all Meier tried to do was knock it down, then re gather the puck with his stick and pass it. Who knows maybe I misunderstand this, but I hope it helps
: “A player shall be permitted to stop or ‘bat’ a puck in the air with his open hand, or push it along the ice with his hand, and the play shall not be stopped unless, in the opinion of the on-ice officials, he has directed the puck to a teammate, or has allowed his team to gain an advantage, and subsequently possession and control of the puck is obtained by a player of the offending team, either directly or deflected off any player or official.”
Nice! I actually “discovered” Meier’s stick deflection and that’s why I came back to check comments! 😂
Appreciate the reply AND confirming stick deflect.

Ian Bailey the only thing your guaranteeing is that you post stupid ass comments
@@ianbailey6382 there's an article on the athletic that goes into depth showing that the officials were all in bad positions and couldn't see it (with a bunch of images). Close ref was below the goal line and had Binnington and Schenn between him and Meier. Meier's back is to the close linesman (on the right side at the blue line) so he can't see it. The back ref is at center ice along with the other linesman, again with Meier's back to them so they can't clearly see it. Did they pay the officials to be in that bad position, but only at that particular time in overtime? Extra bonus for not calling the delay of game on the Blues?

Owen Polley I agree
In addition to pissing off the Blues so badly that they swept the rest of the series, that hand pass turned into a short running meme for awhile in St. Louis. Local grocery stores were making references to it in commercials, the Cardinals were getting in on it, even police across all levels were making references to it on a regular basis.
I think either the Blues or Sharks will beat the Bruins in the final
How about on an OT game 7 goal that was definitely a distinct kicking motion into the net?
garbage person this was the only game really gifted to the sharks. Vegas chocked a 3-1 series lead and a 3-0 lead and even chocked in overtime. Colorado by rule was offsides and landy even took responsibility for it and they had plenty of time to comeback but didn’t so say the sharks can’t win with their own skill is really non sense as they over came a 3-1 deficit and beat Colorado in the series fairly. But still the refs have been horrible all playoffs and they need to be better
garbage person still with Vegas they had to score 3 goals to tie it and they got 4. That takes skill. Vegas a team who is very skilled and proved they can kill the sharks power plays chocked. Colorado would of tied the game if it did count so it’s not like they would of won even if that goal counted so they were not gifted a win there and yeah that ot goal was gifted but even if it was called timo was tripped and the sharks would of had a power play so yeah all the sharks 10 wins have been skilled (given the 10th one the ot goal was due to poor officiating they will earned their way to ot) so you saying the sharks win with no skills is idiotic
garbage person besides good teams play to the end and even if the sharks have “no skill” as you say. What’s that day about Vegas, Colorado, and St. Louis to lose to a sharks team with no skill 🤔
garbage person here’s the deal you play through it no matter what. Just cause they got calls in their favor doesn’t mean they are going to win. They still have to earn it and they did so far throughout all the playoffs. There has been plenty of missed calls against the sharks as well and I guess you can say these even things out. It’s just the sharks capitalize on these chances and their opponents crumble when these calls happen. Good teams play through it. Now the point I’m debating you is that they did play hard and did earn they way here and to say they don’t deserve to be here is very disrespectful to the sharks and the organization. Yes that no call was horrible and I hate that we won that way trust me most sharks fans prefer to win fairly and we agree the officials have been horrible all playoffs but still saying the sharks don’t deserve to be here is bull crap
The puck might have bounced off of number 19 when the hand hit the puck which would mean SJS can touch the puck again and it would make it a good goal. And if the dude is off side he is off side LOL!
11:15 I went to college with colton parayko we both had accounting class together.
I don’t think you should be able to hand pass because you have sticks for a reason, it’s easier to hit a puck that’s in the air with your hand so why even use your stick? I don’t like that thought
Glad for the handpass
what turn the blues around and now after 49 years of or time lgb
When I saw the hand pass I knew it was going to be in this video.
As a Sharks fan, I am happy to see them get this far, but there’s no fun in winning a cup if every series you play in has a deciding/changing bad call. Vegas deserves to lose for multiple reasons (game 2 being the best reason), but the Avalanche, I don’t know that we deserved that series. I am rooting for whichever team scores first tonight in game 4. If the Blues score first, then they got the first ledgit goal since game 3 went to overtime.
Steve, what are your thoughts about game 2 and the argument that the refs helped decide that game?
simply, Vegas shouldve won the series, but on the other hand, Fleury should have had those pp goals. it shouldve been a Vegas and Colorado matchup, with Colorado winning it. Dallas shouldve won the STL series, and gone onto the WCF with Colorado. simple as that. both teams, dare I say, got cheated outta the WCF, woulda made for a great matchup.
Marchand was so funny with Williams the whole playoffs. Vary fun to watch.
Hmm.... He seems to forget the no call delay of game, hit to the head on Braun, slash on Haley, oh and the trip on Meier during the play that lead to the hand pass. No doubt it shouldn't have been a goal but are we really going to act like only the Sharks got the calls? Oh, and even Landeskog admitted he was offside so I don't wanna hear it.
