Thank you! I got an Apple SE watch for Christmas and I just went into settings. However, there is no "always on" to choose! I am trying to get the Portrait Face to be my watch face and it's not showing up on my watch even though I added it in my Watch app on my iPhone. A big learning curve. :)

Its for battery saving, if it would be that your watch kept on all day on high brightness your battery would literally die
