lol fairly sure this is what my entire family feels like when I'm practising the violin. Jeremy ' s miming playing is very good - that scale before "what's wrong" was perfect 😂
No, in an interview he once said that he could not. However, he also stated that he had got quite skilful at "bowing" the instrument, and that he listens to the music for hours beforehand, to get a feel of the rhythm.
Jeremy is soooo breathtakingly handsome and sexy during this ep! He looks just awesome in his black suit. My favourite scene is when he says "what's wrong" to Watson....Superb acting!
Brilliant. Hilarious that Holmes heard Watson groaning because he knew his title sounded better then to toss in that little smug laugh. I really liked this one!
Love this series. The "But *please* do not let me influence you," at 1:50 reminds me of Terry Pratchett's Vetinari character saying "Don't let me detain you" XD.
@lidlehotti3 Apparently when Holmes is thinking he just plays random, discordant notes. He can play violin perfectly well and indeed in the Study In Scarlet he plays a violin lullaby to Watson to send him to sleep :3 God Watson's writing is huge. He must have a word count of 6 words per line, as opposed to my 12 or 13
In the first part of this episode Holmes says exactly what it is "...third movement of Beethoven's violin concerto..." The detail description would be I think "Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61"
Apparently Jeremy Brett in his younger days had a speech defect that prevented him from pronouncing "r" correctly - he overcame it through therapy and assiduous practice. Guess he tended to overcompensate as a result!
Yes... the ending is perhaps a bit anticlimactic, but amusing. When someone extemporizes an act or an interaction, however small, that suits the characters of Holmes & Watson, it keeps them alive, and I can easily see Holmes knocking down Watson's rather lame choice of title in just this way.
flyinspirals just to add onto that, I can see Watson thinking to himself, "Crap, that's actually a better title", but fighting to give into Holme's suggestion. Lol
'oh, n youmean *shows violin* oh, i nderstand)' 'thanks AWFULLY' i have to laugh at watson's title 'the brook's street' mystery being shunned ('i guess it will suffice.') by holmes: the portuguese version was called exactly that. :D mind you, the titles are usually translated straight out, but this was one of the ones that the title was different.
So, what becomes of Sutton's hoard? And what is the resolution of the dear handsome Dr. Trevelyan; does he get a claim on the hoard, as he and Sutton were partners in an enterprise? And does the dear handsome Doctor, get to stay all alone in that big old Mansion? OR, goes he go out an get himself another handsome Page, to scurry about the place and help him play Doctor? Hmmmm....oh, those 'Scarlet Victorians'.
My Dear I watched the drama once again, did you notice that ,at the very beginning Holmes, played his fingers as playing the violin in the barber, and it is just Beethovan! Besides, why did that servent open the door to allowed those Russians enter in? IT IS NOT LOGIC FOR ME!!!!!!
@jamiewithers Oh, I don't know, I like them both... David Burke is certainly the more energetic Watson, but then again, his Watson is younger than Hardwicke's as his is after The Great Hiatus and al the stresses of supposedly losing Holmes and the years ahead... and Hardwicke, I always felt, was the more kindly Dr. Watson to others of the two- both had their strongpoints...

*playing violin....screws up*
"PAH!"
*Cheeky grin from Watson*
God, I love this show.
The music played is Concerto op. 61 3rd mov. Rondo Beethoven.
No, in an interview he once said that he could not. However, he also stated that he had got quite skilful at "bowing" the instrument, and that he listens to the music for hours beforehand, to get a feel of the rhythm.
I love Brett's "Ha!" at 2:41.
Brilliant adaptation of Doyle's masterpiece of short stories. Thanks for posting.
"Holmes!!"
"What's wrong?"
Hahaha!! Love it!!
The ending is funny with Holmes fiddling his violin to get the notes right annoying Watson writing his report
Nasha Naufal Holmes can be such a jerk
Nasha Naufal
I must say his violin playing is pretty impressive! Very good job.
Each episode a gem.
Once again...Thanksalot!
Love this series.

My favourite scene is when he says "what's wrong" to Watson....Superb acting!
watson's face when Holmes kept playing violin was like: "God helps me" or something like: "Should I knock him out so he will be quiet in a while?"
Brilliant. Hilarious that Holmes heard Watson groaning because he knew his title sounded better then to toss in that little smug laugh.
I really liked this one!

I love how he says: "What's wrong?" haha one of the BEST!
Great ending.

The look ... so dashing !
lol at the way he says "whats wrong"...dear god he's too much awesomeness
A" B" capital composer's violin concerto!
Very difficult piece!
It's Beethoven's violin concerto, 3rd movement
The ending was just humorous and completely Holmes- he always knows!
- Daddy, so that's how people used to write, with paper and pen, no computers?
- Yes, son, that's how they did it.
thnx a lot... videos were great....
livestrong!!
"dont let me influence you"
cool statement... :)
Ah, thank you! I actually came across that exact same quote some time after making that comment, on a site called tumblr :)
Did anyone notice the shapes of the T's when watson was writing the titles? The first was different from the next 2.
In the first part of this episode Holmes says exactly what it is "...third movement of Beethoven's violin concerto..." The detail description would be I think "Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61"
Does Jeremy brett play the violin?
Wonderful fun!

Just like in the case of Dr. Mara Neusel. More than one person was there when she "committed suicide".
Just check out Watson's expression when Holmes says The Resident Patient... XD
Holmes could find bigfoot!
Yes, but he probably wrote the first title carefully, and obviously more slowly. The word 'Street' is exactly the same.
@BlueLarkFly They mentioned he was spending his money at the pub, so he was bribed, probably heavily, to let them inside.
'oh, n youmean *shows violin* oh, i nderstand)'
'thanks AWFULLY'

Anti Climatic ending.

What song is Holmes trying to play?
@viola551 oh my goodness .. He'd be PERFECT for Vetinari .. with a little bit of gre
y hair ... *shiver*
@MrsSherlcokHolmes thanks a bunch
@BlueLarkFly how could I find it on here or itunes?
Jeremy Brett is the best.
"Brook Street Mistery" was OK!kk
My Dear
I watched the drama once again, did you notice that ,at the very beginning Holmes, played his fingers as playing the violin in the barber, and it is just Beethovan!
Besides, why did that servent open the door to allowed those Russians enter in?
IT IS NOT LOGIC FOR ME!!!!!!
what's the name of the song he's playing on the violin?

@arul20 If he was alive, maybe. :( RIP JB
Um, the long dubbed Christian advert prior to this episode anyone? Anyone?
Does Jeremy Brett know how to play violin, anyway? what i mean is, is that it just looks... what's the word natural...
I think David Burke made a much better Watson than Edward Hardwicke. He has a lot more expressive face than ol' Ed.
Definitely close to Doyle's characterizations of Holmes and Watson. Holmes just needs to be a touch more irreverent.
***** OK, but by which actor.
