Hi. Thanks for the wonderful words about my home course Krokhol. I can honestly say that there is no rich owner financing Krokhol. There are a handful of people, who just love it that much. 130 volunteers during Krokhol Open.

    • @ivindlundberg7592
      @ivindlundberg7592 Před měsícem +1

@prattacaster The background story is simple. A håndfull Enthusiastic people was tired of par 3 courses with lots of waiting time. They wanted a course in Oslo that would be challenging for everyone and help develop the best players in the region. They looked around and talked to government and came across this property by coincidence. A close partnership with the golfcourse and some serious planning made way for this course. When you play it, you can obiously see the tracks from the old abandoned golfcourse, but it's totally redesigned to be a 100% discgolf course. Features like bunkers etc have been removed and filled with either threes or gras.

After watching Paul Macbeth and his Euro tour in 2023 my husband and I specifically went to Norway and Krokhol because we wanted it to experience it ourselves. It was rated number two on UDISC at that point in time. I love wood courses and this course is the perfect combination of woods and fairways. The course is truly, truly incredibly beautiful, but also incredibly difficult for a normal human being. It is by far my favorite course that we've played to this point. We also played at the course at Skelleftea in Northern Sweden where Latitude 64 is located. Was ranked #3 at that time. When we got home we took a road trip and drove down to Maple Hill and played that course for the weekend because we thought it was cool to be able to say we played the number one two and three courses in the world at that time. Krokhol by far is my absolute favorite course.

Krokhol was the most stunning course and property ive ever seen played, and the layout of the holes made it so much fun to watch. Im still shocked at the level in which Ricky played at all weekend, to go bogey free out there is insane. The property is not a public park, it was an old ball golf course and the owners of if now, had purchased 9 holes of that course and turned into what you see now. I said the same thing though, that course is what the future of disc golf looks like. We need at least 10 mpre courses on that level. U said there were only 2 pro tour winners in the FPO field, maybe im wrong but there were twice as many at least. You had Ella Hanso, Paige Peirce, Silva Saarinen and Annika Steen and of course Kristan Tattar. Plus very other talented European women.

This was the first european tournament i could stomach. It didnt feel like a funeral proceeding, didnt feel like they were treating disc golf like the fate of the world was on the line. Just watching tournament coverage of Krokhol, you can tell it's the #1 course in the world. The course was just visually so beautiful, the trees were amazing, and you could clearly see where the fairways were. If you were off the fairway, you were punished by tree jails and natural OB. And then on top of that, you still had artificial OB, water, and more. Felt as close to a golf course as disc golf can get.

Krokhol looks amazing, I’d love to play there sometime. A property that has the potential to be something special is Kayak Point in Washington. The gold course that GK just filmed skins on doesn’t have the par/shot difficulty figured out yet, but they’re still pretty fresh out there, and it’s just an amazing property to play disc golf on with the huge evergreens and manicured fairways. Maybe in 5 years if they’re willing to listen to pros and make necessary changes it could take the next step forward.

With the European courses. They do look much better. I think some or many of them were failed golf courses possibly and then the climate lets them stay in better shape possibly? Like the Preserve should look great but is just ok. I think topography and geography help them a lot. However we have to give credit to the volunteers/staff and possibly government allowences and policies play parts as well. Either way, again yes, these Northern European courses have all looked amazing.

@@samsportsman929 There is at least one course in Finland where tee area is shared with disc golfers and golfers and you book a teetime. I have never heard about problems on the course. Golfers usually let disc golfers pass them, because golf is so much slower. Lot of talking between and sometimes golfers ask about discs etc. Little more expensive course and quite remote from bigger cities so disc golfers are usually fairly good and know how to behave.

I think a big part of krokhol being so good is the amount of rain they get.
You cant have a course like that in the US without a ton of watering which doesnt make sense financially (or environmentally).

If hole is really tough, I don't care if I am happy with a bogey or even double bogey. Tournament play book I do based on the course and how holes fit my game. I don't make any plans based on par number. To me that doesn't make any sense. if they is an eagle chance without high risk, go for it regardless what the par is. If you win the field by making a par and you have a safe way to get it and tricky birdie, make a game plan for par etc. I have always thought people pay too much attention to par numbers.

A whole day pass at Eagles Crossing means at least 2 rounds, if you have the stamina. #1 course is $5 plus $8,000 to get there. Not even comparable. Outside of pay courses, the sport is 100% dependent on volunteers, still, who pay YOUR cost out of their pockets.

@@coachbrandon01 There are several privately owned courses in Finland and also championship level courses and fee is $5-$10/round or full year $50-$70 and you can play as much as you want after that.
$70 is a lot of money for a day pass. Maybe it would be more profitable if it was cheaper --> more players, or maybe it sells well with that price as well.
People in Oslo don't have to pay $8000 for a trip to a local course.
Eagle's Crossing has a chance to look for volunteers too. I think it is in a fairly remote location, but surely there is a town nearby. But even course maintained with voluntary labor is quite expensive. Legit question, not just for Trevor but for Hunter and Konner as well…
Why, as soon as you are able to jump putt (right outside the circle) do you resort to that? It doesn’t appear to be something that is practiced regularly and it makes more sense to me just to putt like normal. Or just practice it more so it doesn’t look like you guys are throwing a flapping duck at the basket🤷🏻‍♂️ 😂

Norwegians take more pride in themselves and their community than the US.

I think pretty much EVERYONE takes more pride than the US does, though as a whole we like to ACT like we do the most!
It may also just be that other countries spend their tax money WAY better than we do in the US!

Anyone else feel like MOST of the holes at the event this past weekend were pretty boring to watch? For what is called the number 1 course in the world according to Udisc (Incase you didn't hear that 50 times this past weekend) I was disappointed. Looked fun to play but I just didn't care for watching MOST of the holes. Hole 1 was the worst.

Yeah, you weren't the only one. Just seemed like one of those courses that is more fun to play than watch.

That's the way it always is. Courses the players love are boring to watch and courses the players don't like are better on film.

I thought quite the opposite, this was far and away the best golf course conversion to watch imo. It had every shot, forced certain lines and tricky greens. Plus the booth was great the whole tournament too.

You guys are calling a course hard that Ricky destroyed, u better go look at KC wide open scores if you’re looking for a difficult pro level course -9 to win over 3 days! I bet no more than 3 holes averaged under par

Lol, Drew Gibson won with a 1038 event rating. You don't realize how insane it is to go bogey free out at Krohkol, let alone shoot -33. He doubled the last year's winners score under par.
