I am 46 years old and I was taught to walk away from a fight
I was taught walk away from an argument but defend yourself in a fight.
My heart hurts for all of the children that watched this tragic event. Such a sad story Lamont.
IKR, Right after that I wouldn't be able to see Santa in the same probably anymore Ijs.
I really like Terrence Howard as an actor. What a sad story.
Carol Bearce--
Right?? I Too Agree.. 😢
My Heart feels heavy & Hurts, for ALL of the Children, Who Had to Watch this Tragic Event--
It WAS Christmas Time,
December 21, 1971...
What A SAD, Tragic Event, to BE Happening, just 4 Days, Before Christmas, in 1971...😢😢😢😢
R.I.P to Those, who have Died, from this Tragic Event~ "Jack" Fitzpatrick & Wife Mary, & Any others, who died, & Perished, over 50 years Ago...🙏🙏🙏🙏😢🙏😢🙏😢
What you sad
You don't care about children, you're just too dumb to know you're walking dead so your brain is reacting with primal urges from the DNA code with no logical thoughts associated. A person who's not walking dead has step by step logical thinking and don't just assume baby urges and primal instincts are living
It's sad about how this man died but no one has a right to physically attack another person and expect not to be attacked back. It's like self-defense is a crime in the country and the person defending themselves is a murderer.
This man caused his own demise the minute he attacked Mr. Howard. May he RIP.
Facts.
Truth.
Truth for sure.
You kick someone and stabbing should be your punishment thats sick to think like that the other guy tyrone took it to a murderous level yes the guy that started it was wrong but shouldnt be killed as a lesson
@@jeffhandley3224 you physically attack someone and you don't get to dictate their response. I think you're a racist and all you see is a black man killed a white man. He would still be alive if he had kept his hands to himself.
What a sad story especially for the kids of the two men involved.
Surprisingly one of them is a Hollywood actor
My father is from Cleveland and was an adult when this happened. He’s told me a version of the story with some differences. I was told that when the Mrs. Howard came back to the line, Fitzpatrick said something along the lines of “Why’re you lettin’ that darky in front of you?” to the dad.
Mr. Howard turns around and says “That’s my wife” and that’s when Fitzpatrick grabbed him. I was told Fitzpatrick knee’d Howard multiple times to the point of the bleeding. A blade was passed to Howard and that’s when the stabbing happened. That’s the version I learned from my dad.
I’m inclined to believe that version because that’s the one I’ve heard repeated the most.
@@stasiagoro8720 Is this statement referring to myself or you? I’m not understanding which. Sorry. Are you saying you heard the same version I heard?
@@fslayer1290 yes
@@stasiagoro8720 Thanks for clarifying. ☺️
@@fslayer1290 you’re welcome!
All I was trying to do was keep our place in line. My wife is pregnant. I told her to sit down, and come back when we got close to Santa Clause.... Simple as that.
That's so damn sad & tragic! You have a natural ability to tell a story!
Something my mother always told me that I hold onto to this day: pick your battles. I know that's a lot easier said than done but it's worth it in the end. There are some battles worth fighting sure but a lot of them, like you said Lamont, just need to be let go. RIP to John Fitzpatrick.
Great advice.
Great advise. My dad said small potatoes big potatoes. Look at a situation or problem and think is this a small potato or a big one then if it’s a big one than deal with it. If not let it go. We know someone who makes big potatoes out of everything. I am a grandma now and she is turning 18 in a few weeks and somethings she says my hair turns greyer but hey I only say something if I feel maybe I can get her to see another way of looking at things, She is a great girl just has a lot of growing up to do.
Hard to keep my mouth shut but it’s just best to let it go, she has to grow up like I had to, sometimes wonder if I was so immature ready to go on my own when I was her age haaaaaaaaaaa
Good advice. I watch the Active Self Protection channel. They always teach you that you win 100% of the fights that you dont get into or engage. Excellent advice.
That’s exactly what we were taught. Unless it’s something that’s REALLY going to make a difference, you need to learn how to walk away.
Fitzpatrick started it and would have killed Tyrone if he could have. He should never have been brought to trial. I hope Fitzpatrick is burning in hell.
Very interesting story. Obviously you’ve never seen the movie “A Christmas Story” which was filmed in several location in Cleveland, including Public Plaza outside Higbee’s and a long, long line to see Santa “inside.”
Love that movie. They made a second one this year. I thought it was funny but the first is a yearly favorite!!
@@Rob78169 I didn't know there was a second Christmas story I love that movie
@@allisonmigneault6707 I actually thought it was pretty good. It's called "Christmas Story Christmas". Ties in nice with original🎅🌲🎁
Rip to John Fitzpatrick. I honestly don’t see Tyron Howard as a murderer because: A. The fight started when people decided to not allow his wife in line. B. John Fitzpatrick decided to pin him to a wall and knee his crotch and C. Tyron Howard was very sorry for murdering that man and arrested himself for it. This was nothing but a fight gone wrong. Both men should have kept to themselves and not start a fight.
That guy sounds like a big bully jerk. Harassing him because his pregnant wife was getting back in line?! Who does that?!
Fully agree with you bro!!!!
naw he flat out murdered him.
Ok Karen.
Seriously?
How horrible 😭 they'll never see Christmas the same 🙏 RIP
Off topic but I was just watching a local newscast that's been doing a series about cold cases in the area, and Marcus Mc Gee, subject of one of your videos was mentioned. 👍 I saw an interview with Terrence Howard one time and he said that something he remembered his dad telling him was to think before you speak or act, sounds like Tyrone had remorse. Thanks Lamont RIP Jack🕊️
That was self-defense so he wasn't suppose to get no jail time at all 💯.
That must have been traumatic for all those children that were waiting in line to see Santa. Also the man who died how sad for his kids.
I doubt he was a loving father. People like him tend to be abusive to everyone around them.
@@elizabethcompton738 oh hush up, karen!
How sad for Trrence's siblings and mom to have to see a man pinning their dad up and kneeing him in the groin repeatedly
I remember hearing Terrence talk about this. 😮 Wow! It's crazy all this time has passed! Not the greatest memory to have.
"...don't let that jerk make you a jerk...", I LIKE THAT!
Higbees is gone for some years now and Jack’s Casino is there. If you watch “A Christmas Story” -the movie you can see what it looked like and the way it was set up for Santa.
*Lamont!*
This was an outstanding video about a tragic event.
Didn't his son play a role in a *Madea* movie?!
*Thank you, for all of your hard work!!*
🙂👍🌹
Someone I know once asked me if “this was the hill I want to die on” and every time I have a situation that could have a bad outcome I just think of that phrase and I’m able to change my mindset
Wow, that would do it for me too!
Hii may ask how do you mean you're able to change your mindset, are you saying that the memory reminds you that you escaped your death that day.?
Good advice Lamont, it's hard to turn the other cheek when dealing with jerks.
Old time nail files where meant to last for a lifetime of use. These nail files were often sold as part of a dresser set for a lady to use at her vanity. The sets included comb hairbrush hand mirror etc. These nail files where very sturdy and extremely POINTED

I was in an incident like Tyrone Howard and a man lost his life too. It’s not worth it . Avoid violence at all cost. It’s not brave to act like an animal. Be a man and walk away . By the next day the issue will be meaningless so why let it ruin lives .
Wow :o I never would’ve guessed you were going to say Terrence Howard
As a clevelander I've heard of this story for years. Soon as i heard the name it all came back to me. All my dad would say about the court - what a 💩 show
I grew up across the street from Jack Fitzpatrick and his brother Tommy. Tommy got into some teenage trouble (something like stealing hubcaps I think) and was caught. The judge in the case told him he could go to jail or join the army. Tommy joined the army and was killed a few months later in Vietnam (in 1969), 2 years before Jack was killed. Tommy is buried in the same cemetery as Jack. Double tragedies for the Fitzpatrick family. 😢
Don’t give a fck about either of them
So were they racist? 🤔
Tyrone Howard seems like a stand-up guy. I'm sad John had to die for fighting in public, but he brought it on himself.
Terrence always seems pissed off.
I was wondering why Terrence Howard was on the front 😂😂😂
Good advice Lamont. Hard to let it go sometimes for sure.
Lamonte, you are a very good man. Have a Very Merry Christmas and all the best to you for 2023.
Is that a little green gremlin in front of you leading you to your destination ?? It’s ADORABLE 🥰
Yes I've been wondering about that myself!
Looks like a orb in daytime
My uncle use to live in Cleveland & he bought me gorgeous dresses & clothes from Higbee’s! I remember they were so beautiful & different from any stores we had in PA at that time. Great memories…
Died standing in line to see SATAN!!
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
Never knew this... Crazy... Thanks for sharing Lamont
Fun fact, Higbees Department store was used in the film A CHRISTMAS STORY with Darren McGavin and Melinda Dillon. I am from that area and did not hear about this until now because I had been drafted into the arrmy .. Thank you Lamont , as always.
That's a very sad story thanks for sharing and drive safe out there Lamont
I love how you always seem to time the story to end right around the time you arrive at the grave.
LOl
It's called editing 😆
He shouldn't have been charged with anything just for defending himself.
Awesome video. At the end the twist Terrence Howard, the actor. Very interesting. Thank you for all you do!
It’s hard to believe if Tyron was a killer if he got out of jail in 11month
Self defense
My eyes lit up wen he said Terrance Howard 😯
He has the right to defend himself!
You are the best story teller.
Man that cemetery not far from my house. Never know where you may find Lamont
Lamont you are an inspiration to so many ! Your message towards the end should be in all the school grades, Thanks for being the caring person I follow on a daily basis ! Extremely sad events that are timeless. Peace be with you !
Qq
So I guess Tyrone went on Santa's Naughty list after that huh?
Why? Because some douche attacked him first?
That is one enormous cemetery, and very pretty, too. There would be a time that I'd make a deal out someone "cutting" in line, but nowadays I usually just let it slide. Excellent story telling!
Right. These days,it isn't even worth it. Too many other things going on. I've got bigger fish to fry.Just go on ahead. Not a big deal.
Very sad for both families & all the kids that witnessed this tragic event. Sounds like self defense to me.
Lamont ... I would like to add to your sage advice the following:
As you refuse to engage the trouble-making "jerk" by walking or driving away ...
comfort yourself with the sure knowledge that the day will come when the
"troublemaker" will challenge the wrong person ... who will be more than able
and willing to accommodate him BIG TIME!!
Terrance Howard’s best acting part was on Dead Presidents he played a bad dude very good movie with Keith David great actor too
I personally wouldn't get mad at someone who's letting their pregnant wife and kids back in line but like this man said I wasn't there.
And the fact that his OWN wife was pregnant at the time. I just don't get it.
L amount may think race wasn’t a factor but I’m gonna bet it was.
I'm 55 and in the early 1970s as a child, race was an issue
@@chatnoirsilver4790And still is today 🙏
I hate racism and most likely that’s what started it all. LUVS Lamont! 💕
Hey Lamont!!! Another great video. Thank you 🙂
Well I was raised by a mother who was a jehovah witness. NO BIRTHDAY, EASTER, VALENTINES OR CHRISTMAS. I made VERY certain things would be totally different for my kids and it was. I live in Texas but I was born in Columbus Ohio
Thank you Lamont, l remember hearing about this. It was on the news. STAY SAFE, SAFE TRAVELS, BLESSINGS,
PRAYERS ALWAYS
Thanks for the memories! I shopped at Higbee's as a little girl (born in Cleveland). We moved in 1972 and I do not remember this story! So sad all the way around. What a waste.
What a sad story. Who would have thought it would escalate to that. I fear that Jack must have had quite a volatile temper. I hope he was more patient with his family. And you are so right Lamont, learn to let it slide. Life is too precious to lose that way.
It’s takes a real man to back off and walk away from a bad situation
It takes a BETTER man not to start crap in the first place.
That saying is for the bitches that wanna mouth off and can’t back it up
@@paulspeight4262 you have a good point there my friend 👍
You are 100% correct that time washes away the memories of petty anger. I’m older than you, and I can attest petty anger is forgotten. A few times, I’ve thought about past silly events and they’re even laughable.
Great advice Lamont! I have been one of those who would not back down , no matter how big or small the man is. I am easy going and nice and don't start none. But I've never been one to run from physical confrontation. I have always been very good at throwing hands and knuckle up. I've been very fortunate. But I'm in my 50s now and I've swallowed, took deep breaths and just walk away now ...thanks bruh. Appreciate you always...✌👍
Age catches up with everyone in the end. Stay safe and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
@@roberttilton7927 yes it does my friend. Stay safe always and merry Christmas to you and your family..🙏
The pansies we have coming up now,are too coward and weak to throw hands. All they do is shoot. Not man enough to take a ass whooping. I respect a good fist fight. Everybody goes home. You live to fight another day.
@@vanessapete1091agree! You nailed it ..🎯
Is it only me that thinks stabbing someone to death isn't proportionate to being kneed in the groin? Rest in peace Mr Fitzpatrick.
A nail file though, who would've thought he'd have hit an artery much less while in pain and fight-or-flight thought he was going deep
Their addresses are in that newspaper I put them up on Google Maps their only 15 minutes from each other. it's kind of crazy how you can see where they used to live
R.I.P To John Fitzpatrick. Died in front of Saint Nick.

My Grandpa Talley used to always say:
*"Its better to make a good run than a bad stand."*
🙂👍❤️
Thanks for sharing this story! And you're not the only one who thinks Hustle & Flow was a bad movie. I hate that movie. Stay safe and have a wonderful weekend!
An absolutely horrible movie! Utterly stupid and boring!!
Terrance Howard was alright in Dead Presidents
To many crazy sobs around to get into it over something not important
Hey Lamont! Another great video. I hope you're feeling better.
I have the feeling this video was recorded weeks or months earlier. Looks awfully green for Ohio in December.
What a waste of life, at a time when people were supposed to be celebrating a good time!
There are so many stupid people everywhere and don't let them get to you! Be the better person and let it go, walk away and live another day!
Two guys that didn’t want to back down = prideful.
RIP to the Fitzpatricks.
P.S. Lamont did a story on “The Boy In The Box”. Did you all see there’s finally a name to that child?! I hope there’s still family around that can explain why this happened, or at the very least, give him a headstone with his God given name on it♥️🙏🏼♥️
Hopefully someone will step up, and give back that little fella's, God given name.
Poor baby. He did not deserve, what happened to him. God bless his little soul.
Yeah his name is Joseph
And the lady of the dunes has been identified. He did a story on her too I am pretty sure.
He was identified
I had to come and say that I also think Hustle And Flow was not a good movie lol at all. And justice was served. He defended himself that man shouldn't have put his hands on him. He didn't know he would die from a stab with a fingernail file. People should learn to stop trying to fight everyone because you can't beat everyone and one day that one will sit you down.
Maybe he shouldn't have said anything and just let the lady back in line
It's ironic that I'm watching this on what would have been John's 87th birthday. Sad story. RIP.✝️🙏⚘️
Both of these men weren't backing down and there were children around. This pissed me off that they couldn't let it slide and just let the children enjoy the holidays. I'm sad this happened. We still need to treat each other better. Be what we want to see our children grow to be.
This is heartbreaking for, his children and his wife and all the children and parents and of course Santa so sad 😔 ty Lamont for sharing
Lamont thank you so much for caring about others you do an excellent job presenting the video absolutely 💯 percent love watching them keep it up brother
It's terrible that happened, but I have no sympathy for the so-called "victim." He started it, physically attacked someone else, and got stabbed. That's NOT MURDER, Lamont. It's self-defense. I'm totally in Tyrone's corner.
Yeah but since at that time he was black their u go history will never change even now
K K K.L over
BLACKS HAVE BEEN KILLED BY WHITES FOR CENTURIES SINCE SLAVERY TIME FOR EXAMPLE YOUNG Emmett Till who was a fucking CHILD when he was MURDERED BECAUSE A RACIST WHITE WOMAN LIED ABOUT HIM WHISTLING AT HER!
Lamont, Higbees is the department store in downtown Cleveland that was made famous in the movie "A Christmas Story" Growing up until 1987 this was where everyone went for Christmas to see Santa and the display windows.
What? Someone shot at you? I gotta hear this story. one of my neighbors got shot by a road rage driver, but he couldn’t identify him, so he got away with it.
I'm glad Tyrone made it out in 11 mts❣
What a shame. Somebody ends up dying just to keep a lie alive. people need to stop teaching their children about these pagan festivals, like Christmas, the Easter bunny, valentines day, all of that crap. If they did, tragedies like this would never happen
I bet you're really fun on holidays
The comment I was looking for. Thank you for telling the truth. People.are brainwashed and don't have a clue.
Lamont, some great kernels of truth here. Letting things go, and maybe some implied Karma. In 8th grade i was a wimpy little guy. I was walking down hallway and accidentally bumped into a little wannabe gangbanger. Maybe he bumped me. I don't know. He sucker punched me good in the face. I just instantly reacted by lifting my arm to punch back, even though I never been in a fight ever. The vice principal was behind me and grabbed my arm, keeping me from punching. My jaw still pops to this day. That was in 1981. We both were suspended, even though I didn't do shit. I was a furious little nerd! 2 years later I was reading the newspaper (remember those?) and saw that that little punk had been shot in a drive by gang shooting, a tit for tat gang thing, and I saw that he was like 15 or 16, and I felt like throwing a party! Now I just realize what a waste of life that was, and maybe that could easily have been me dead at 16. That VP did me a favor. I didn't know it then, but I for sure do now. A lot of that crap will take care of itself...comes around goes around, etc. fyi, somehow I grew up and am a bigger than average guy and am here in 2022. I never in a million years imagined myself with a house, a job, kids, etc....life goes on! Stay safe out there!
Happy for you, but if your jaw is still damaged, why can't you sue? Im so angry reading this for what the boy and the school system treated you.
@@rozzie5651 Thanks for your kind words. I still think about once in a while when my jaw is popping, but statute of limitations is over for that type of stuff I think. I do appreciate your empathy! If more people were like you we probably would never have these types of problems. I'm surprised that anyone read this whole thing, looking back its pretty long. But just your reply has made it worth it. The dentist told me its TMJ, but not too bad, and he asked if I suffered any "trauma" to that area in the past...I told him the whole story and he basically just said "yeah that's all it would take". It was a lot worse the first 5 or so years, especially in the morning I would yawn, but had to stop because it hurt and I knew it would do the loud pop....anyhow, thanks again, stay safe, we have to look out for each other in society I think! Darin H.
@@dharsh007 and also im upset the principal suspended you, and you didn't hit him at all, it was stopped! Even today i feel school's don't do enough to stop bullying. There have been cases where children have died by suicide. But you take care, and i don't mind looking out for people. 😊
@@rozzie5651 Thanks again Rozzie! I appreciate the people left who still want to make this country and world a better place. Merry Christmas! (if you celebrate)
Sounds like self-defense to me

God bless you Lamont I didn't know about the story so thank you for bringing it to light God bless his children I like you were saying anything can happen when you get in a fight please be careful it's not worth it and I'm sure this man that took this man's life realized that he messed up and I'm glad he at least turn himself in but it should have never happened God bless just wanted to get my opinion
