    I love my Ruger American 308. I took one buck last season and I can't wait until I get out there again. I can print sub 1 MOA groups with 168gr SMK.

      I run 45 grains of Varget behind a 168gr. pill and maintain 1/4-1/2 MOA groups far beyond reasonable hunting distances. Excellent rifle!

    I've been considering getting the Go-Wild edition in 308. Do you have any hands on experience with that model? I like the cerakote finish and have heard that the action is a little smoother than the base models, but I'm assuming the stock is still a little flimsy as all the American stocks are.

    • @yellowhammeroutdoors5516
      @yellowhammeroutdoors5516  Před 2 lety +3

      I have experience with the Go-Wild edition in a 350 legend. The Burnt Bronze Cerakote finish is very nice on those models. The stocks, however, have the same problems as other factory stocks, they just come in a camo pattern. I will say, however, even with the flimsy stock, these rifles shoot sub-MOA at 100 yards. I only see the stock upgrade as absolutely necessary if you are attaching a bipod (pressure interferes with the free float) or if you are going to be shooting further than 100-200 yards.

      I have two .308 go wilds - got to have backups. I stayed with the original camo stocks as they seemed fine for hunting. Both guns shot sub MOA out of the box. I did add a timney to both guns. The muzzle brake is nice also.

      I have the Go Wild in .308. I love the rifle, don't know if it might be that I got a 'one in a million', but, I can't praise the rifle enough. Took deer with it in the '21 season. Solid, no frills, reliable rifle.

      I’ve got a Savage 110 and it’s a great rifle, I’ll be reviewing one soon along with the Accu-Fit stock. For the money, though, I don’t think you can beat the Ruger American. Lots of aftermarket support, as well. It’s weird that the Savage 110 is the oldest continuously-produced American bolt-action rifle on the market but lacks a lot of aftermarket support.

      @@nickrussett259 great choice on the Arken! You can get a replacement bolt handle from Anarchy Outdoors. They have lots of different options for colors and patterns. Just make sure to get the firing pin tool. It helps a lot with the bolt disassembly.

    So you went with the compact version of the predator. Does it have any issues with ejection?

    • @yellowhammeroutdoors5516
      @yellowhammeroutdoors5516  Před 2 lety

      Yes, I have the 18” barrel. Being a .308, I have zero issues with ejection. The only issues I have ever had are hard to lift bolts with loads exceeding published data. This is to be expected as these loads also exhibited other signs of excessive pressure. Even with a 18” barrel I was holding sub-MOA groups at 600 yards this weekend. Will be publishing a follow up video of that in the next week or so.

    What is the part# on your magpul stock. I have the same 308 predator and put on MAG931. There is a good size gap between the barrel and stock and wonder if thats normal.

    • @yellowhammeroutdoors5516
      @yellowhammeroutdoors5516  Před 2 lety +1

      Where is the fun in that? It is much more satisfying to build something than to buy it. Anyway, even with the upgrades I’m at a lower price point than high end rifles and getting match grade accuracy out to 1000+ yards with an 18” barrel. This rifle holds its own against my match grade rifles with 26” barrels worth more than this entire package.

    • @agentorren7978
      @agentorren7978 Před 2 lety

      I have considered this heavily and this set up cost me around 950. The rifles in this price range are quality for sure but not at the level of this set up. This set up has more customization and fit to the shooters preference than something at this price range. To each their own like you said but its not like rifles in the 900 price range are elite rifles or anything, which neither is this one. I guess what I am trying to say is, rifles in that price range are not any better than this set up.
