A soft fibre paintbrush to clean out dust and muck from ports always works. Also good for use on circuit boards too before applying IPA ;)

You should introduce using a cleaner like SprayWay with a thick microfiber cloth (not a glasses lens cloth), its safe on the unibody for these things and gets them squeaky clean! Also try some canned air!

Hi Hugh. I have come across your channel recently, and I appreciate what you do with old hardware. For dirty logic boards and motherboards, I would recommend using brake cleaner and high percent alcohol to clean them. Note that brake cleaner tends to discolor some plastic, however this should not be an issue if you remove the board from the device first.

Then I have formatted the drive with the original base osx 10.7 unfortunately, the book restarted again. Then i have started to upgrade the osx to 10.13 then also same restart issue. Finally, I have replaced thermal paste for CPU and GPU, cleaned the fan, components , like what you did. The result was awesome and installed the software, the book is up and running .

And their age will show ever faster as the years go. If you want to find a cheap mbp fixer make sure its at least a first gen i5 or i7. 2012's are the sweetspot right now as they support the latest mojave version of macos.

The iMac G4 can only run up to 10.5.8 leopard given it's different processor architecture (PowerPC)
In terms of upgrades some models can support 2GB of ram. If you are upgrading the HDD it doesnt use the SATA interface but rather IDE so you need to find an old HDD or special SSD to install into it.
Hope this helps you in some way.

CPU is at 100% so fans need to be on.

Im guessing there are crumbs under the keyboard from the previous owner or something. Any tips on freeing up the keys so they can work properly again? I know with the Macbook pro you can simply pop out the keys and clean under, but i’m not sure I can do the same thing with this one. Would appreciate the help. Thanks!!

I’m thinking of buying a broken iPhone 6s Plus and try to add a led Apple logo to mine and just have a test device to take apart
